U can replace the battery and Hard disk into SSD and use the laptop again. If you want you can also upgrade RAM. Being using my Laptop for 6.5 years by 3 simple upgrades. After that I plan to use it as NAS for movies and other non important files. After that donate ot to NGOs.
3:08 As an CompTIA A+ Certified, I will advise never ever take your old laptop ram and put in new one. RAM runs on certain frequency older laptop ram had lower frequency and they were DDR2 or DDR3. SO they will make your new ram also work at lower frequency because both the ram need to run on same channel.
While both types of modules have similar numbers of pins, the notches in the PCB are in different locations. In other words, a DDR3 module cannot be placed in a DDR2 memory socket, and vice-versa. So, If anybody wanted to put their DDR2 ram in DDR3 slot, or from DDR 2,3 to DDR4 .. it is not possible (*I think*) ----------- Frequency ---- Talking of the frequency of rams, you are correct, for ex. The ordered display was of a different sub-model available in India. Took a risk to order it and to my surprise, it was a bang on direct fit on my machine. In 2020, I travelled back home after winding up my stuff and I still feel bad that I bought my office laptop with me and put my own loving laptop in the transport. (Installed Windows 8 with recovery disks and then updated to Windows 8.1). 8. Bought a digital Windows 10 Pro license from buydigitalkeys. The built-in OEM keys of my laptop was for Windows 8 Home. When I updated it to Windows 8.1/ 10 (It was digitally activated but for the same parent version- Home). Finally did a clean install of Win 10 Pro for the 1st time (As all previous installations were from recovery disks, which restored it to factory Windows 8 Home). >> My machine now has Win 10 Pro (Got the GP edit, RDP and Bit-locker functionalities which I was in need of) 9. Installed Ubuntu Linux on a separate partiton and it works like a charm, without any issues. Like the content. Yes, old stuff can be reused with skme tweaks. However the part about ram is slightly off. If your new laptop has a different slot, it won't accept your old memory stick. I still have my old dell 1354 from 2010 and I am using it as is like a backup storage and a file server. However its on a private network. Don't want to connect it to the net for obvious reasons because the OS is old and it won't be able to protect against viruses.
