You did an extraordinary job of describing this formula. I could not agree more with everything you said. It’s different from anything else I have. I use Lucents over mattes, too. So I think we tend to use this type of product the same way and have similar preferences. I love a magnetic closure, but I’m glad this is a click closure. It makes it lighter and this is the type of product I carry around in my pocket. I chose Sweet Fig because I don’t have this kind of thing in this shade. (Meet Me in Berlin is never in stock for me!) It’s thick without being too thick. It glides on but isn’t sloppy or too slippy like a lot of the formulas that melt on your lips. And it’s truly nourishing. I love it. I’m going back for Epanoui. But… I won’t be getting any more if I have another formula in similar shades from YSL, Suqqu, or in a LE lucent. When that other product runs out, I might replace the shade with this balm formula if it’s a similar shade because it is so nourishing. And I truly think in the winter I’d use this over a lucent or Pat Balm because this LE balm is so nourishing. ❤
Thank you!!! I really tried to be as helpful as possible. You are right, it is perfect to carry around in a pocket. So light and slim! (I have been doing that with the lucents too but they are heftier haha). If I end up really loving how nourishing these are and I miss the formula, I would go for Sweet Fig for sure.
Great review, thank you for being very thorough and honest! Of all the other reviews out there, almost no one mentioned the smell. I personally love how these feel at application and the colours but they do dissappear very quickly on my lips, I have light skin and dark hair like you but there's very little colour payoff on my lips. Barely can see the difference between the 3 neutral ones on my lips. And let's face it 31 euros is a bit too expensive for a lip balm.
I wonder why because it is rather obvious. At first try I immediately noticed these have some sort of a scent. But then again, people say Gucci brozner/blush are scented...and for the life of me I don't smell it haha. Ahhh that was my fear...that there would be little distinction on the lips. Not even between Epanoui and Sweet Fig? They do come off rather fast I agree. I mean....Dior, Chanel etc all make similar products in the same or even higher price range. I consider it a luxury lip balm. And damn Lisa, I have a soft spot for her!
Epanoui is such a beautiful color! 😍 Thanks for the thorough review of the formula. They seem right up my alley. Im so curious how they compare to the Nable Beyond Jelly lipsticks or the Hourglass Phantom gloss sticks.
Thanks for your great review! The colour épanouie suits you so well! I also use the Luxuriously Lucent on top of the Velvet if I need a little bit of shine, and I use a touch of Velvet on top of the Luxuriously Lucent if I need a bit more pigment. Perfect to combine the two formulas. I did not buy the Baume Embrace, because if I need lipcare, I will just use a good lipcare with a lip pencil or a touch of colour from a Velvet. My natural lip colour is very light, I really need some colour / pigment (not as sheer as the Baume Embrace).
I have been wearing the two I bought for a few days now, Epanoui and Red Curve. Epanoui doesn't show on my lips whereas I love Red Curve. However, personally I don't find them hydrating enough for my lips. It's like, even if I keep layering, the products just sits on top of my lips, but does not go into my lips, if that makes sense. I get a similar feeling with the Lucents so it must be my dry lips. I appreciate the comparison swatches, Suqqu seems like the level of shine, pigment and hydration I'm after!
Ah too bad! I find both formulas really pleasant and hydrating on the lips. Your lips must be a different level of dry. I don't know that Suqqu will give you more but it's always worth to try. Also, some people here have mentioned Korean melting lip balms which are probably also very good!
Yes if I ever get another colour, it would be Fig. I think Red Curve is gorgeous but not the kind of formula that keeps my lip lines nice and sharp for a full day and with a red, it is gonna be more visible.
Omg Enjoy Croatia - it is beautiful! Loved the crystal clear turquoise water, and all the amazing seafood that was so fresh. Fun fact : I didn't realize the Roman empire had stretched its wings all the way to Croatia so we got to see some really cool Roman architecture in Croatia! :)
I will for sure thank you, although it will be at a beach resort so I doubt we will see much of the Roman architecture. The turquoise crystal clear water on the other hand...hope to see A LOT of that!
I wasn’t buying these… but I did. The formula reminds me of one of my favorites, which are the Linda Hallberg skinny lipsticks , so I like it! I prefer Linda’s version.
I knew I was going to buy it because I get everything she makes. I really love the LH ones because they have SPF and feel great. My go to for summer when outdoors a lot. Mine arrive today
I wish these had more pigmentation, but they really are the best lip product on my lips--and when they wear off, my lips aren't dried out. Even my beloved Lucents dry out my lips every time, no matter what lip care I put on beforehand. My lips are pretty much the Gobi desert of my face. 😅Appreciate the review, I won't be buying more of these, but I will certainly enjoy them as slightly tinted lip care for sure! Enjoy your holiday!!!!! 😍
Haha oh gosh! I feel you only for me that is the skin under my eyes... You have probably tried it but I am a fanatic user of the Laneige lip sleeping mask and it has done wonders for me. I have not gone to bed without it since May 2018 when a friend at work gave me a sample to try.
@@mariam.a. I use the Chanel under eye stuff in the gold jar (eep) and it’s worked wonders for my dry, middle-aged undereyes. Funnily enough, I have literally 5 jars of Laneige lip mask that I rotate between every evening, but my lips are still dry when I apply any lip product…except these Baumes, weirdly. Oh, and the Pat McGrath clear balm they sent as a free gift when I spent too much on Mother’s site. 😂 Very sweet suggestion, but I’m still looking for that Gobi desert holy grail…
@@MaryintheCLE LOL then you are a lost cause my friend! Hold on to those baumes for dear life! Don't we all spend too much money on Mother's makeup 🤣...
Realy appreciate this deep dive , I am planning to get them with next launch ...but more I see reviews, more I am eager to have them 😂..so lets see how my patience will last
It does have a scent. Aroma is listed as an ingredient. I just ordered two shades Sweet Fig and Epanoui. I'm going to give Epanoui away because it's not mauve, it's just a neutral pink (. I need more purple to make it cooler and brown to make it more muted. Sweet Fig is glorious, though. The most perfect and natural pinky brown. I was really tempted by Metropolis (both because of the name and the shade), but I was afraid it would be two similar to Night Thoughts or the Decade Gloss, and I already own both, so I passed on it. As for the formula, I don't find it that balmy. It's not slippy at all, it has quite a bit of grip, which is why I think it clings a little bit to the few dry patches on my lips (and I don't even have particularly dry lips). Since the colour is so natural, you can't really see it, but I can feel it when I rub my lips together. It's not particularly glossy either. So it's not at all similar to the Hourglass ones, to anyone wondering, they have a lot more body to them. I think they are most similar to the Romand Glasting Melting Balms.
Thank you for sharing! You definitely have a different experience with these. At least when it comes to shine and hydration, I have no complaints. I think someone here was indeed wondering about the Hourglass ones. P.S. Someone in the comments here was in touch with Lisa's team and indeed there is a little vanilla added in an attempt to mask the scent of the butters.
That was really engaging and so helpful.Thank you for all your hard work thats gone into making a detailed review.I havent bought the new lipstick yet.You have given me food for thought xx
Looks very soft and feminine on you 😊. Thanks for the comparisons. I got Meet Cute and love the feel of it on my lips and the shine. I felt the same as you though, didn’t seem to last very long on my lips. I have to keep trying it out for a few more days to really make up my mind about it. Enjoy Croatia!
Thanks for your review, I think you described them perfectly. I bought two shades and I've been loving them for an elevated daily lip care, my lips feel amazing by the end of the day. I find them very similar to the YSL tinted butter balms but I like that these ones don't have a scent so I prefer them.
I think the texture and pigmentation level is a bit more similar to the loveshine formula, because I also have the candy glow and that one is a bit thicker and glowier.
I still prefer the Lucents too!! Love the look of the balm layered over Velvet Muse though 😍 I have been wearing mine a lot since I bought Epanoui and Red Curve and I've been enjoying them. I have to say though I'm a little bit underwhelmed maybe? I love this type of lip formula, but I don't find it as nourishing as her Gloss Embrace formula (those heal my lips like nothing else), and I prefer similarish lipsticks like the Chantecaille Lip Chics which are more nourishing. I'm glad I picked up Red Curve though as I don't have anything similar and it's a great easy to use red for the summer! ❤
I find it so interesting how people’s experiences in terms of hydration levels differ so vastly. The lucents rule for sure! I think her glosses are more of a lip oil hybrid so it makes sense that they are very nourishing.
Thank you soooo much for this. I went from being not interested at launch, to wanting every single colour! But in practice and reality, I am a cream lipstick wearer, especially the Lucents, or a plain lip balm twice a day when I do my skincare. I don't even like the matte velvet formula, too dry for me. I didn't vibe in practice with Pat's tinted balm, which did slip all over on me. So I don't think this one is for me. Thank you for saving me a but load of money! Time to buy myself more Lucents though haha! ❤
Honestly, I think in the end the lucents have my heart too. I will wait for more shades of those. If I do change my mind on the baumes I will update but for now, lucents for the WIN!
@@mariam.a. Painterly is perfection. I did swatch both the other two in Space NK and felt like Painterly is in between SA and MMIB, like SA is reddish-pinkier, and MMIB neutral brownier. But yeah I do need all 3 😂
Great review…I got them all because this is what I wear in t he summer. Here in Northern California it is much drier in the summer and I suffer from dry lips so I am always wearing some lip balm to keep my lips from peeling. I wear lipstick when I am going to the office or have a full face of makeup
I kind of agree with you on the LE lip balms. I had really high hopes and while they’re very nice... I like the ones from Guerlain more. :/ 129 has my heart in a chokehold and has yet to be surpassed. Also, I love your top! It suits you quite well. :)
I actually sent Epanoui back (unused) after Metropolis barely showed on my pale cool tones lips, sure you can keep rubbing it on until you get some colour but it really does not last, I even tried with her lipliner. I think Lisa used special lighting and some filter/s as well as even on YT reviews i never saw it would look so nice and juicy with some colour as it did on her video...The balm really does feel amazing though. What got me was seeing how little product there was for the money it cost- 2.8g (less product than her lispticks) and as you'd use a lot more (to get some colour) per application - I thought it was unreasonably expensive and not worth it. I am glad I kept just the one i have but buying more than 1-2 makes no sense to me as you also said.
I honestly didn't expect these to be long-lasting, it is just not the type of product that has that capability. Lisa always has artificial lighting, which sometimes actually washes colours out, and of course the light will bounce off the shiny finish and make it appear glossier. If you want that effect, though you might enjoy the Dior Addicts or Pat's divinyls. They come at the cost of being more slippery and for me they travel outside my lips lines. I think anytime a new formula comes out, it is wiser to start with 1 or 2 and see how it goes. You can always buy more hahaha.
I ordered Metropolis! I fell absolutely in love with the color when I saw it. I’m curious about Sweet Fig as well but I am afraid it is a bit too warm for my taste. The package should arrive today, so I haven’t tried it yet, though.
Good morning beautiful! I won't add more colors to my collection. I bought two and I like the hidrating feeling on the lips, BUT I think I will enjoy those more during winter time as a lip care. That said, it's the most expensive lip care product I own 🤣 I just prefer more pigment on the lips like the Lucents, but my true love are the Velvets.
My experience is exactly like yours - there is a very unique balmy soft waxy coco buttery feel of the texture that sticks in place quite well, yet so comfortably cushy - quite unique - I like the feel of these more than the Diors, but I like the colors of the Dior more bc they have more pigmented colors (I wear them with liner though) - but LE feels like it is “better” for my lips - I always need some lip product on my lips and often just use lanolin - these stay put like lanolin, but not as thick and sticky; much nicer more luxurious - bc of my dry lips, I bought a couple light luscent shades to wear at night after cleaning my face and winding down- I enjoy having a little color while just hanging out (unless I forget and just use the lanolin) - and I am allergic to petroleum jelly and many lip balms in general, so finding something that works for casual nourishing lip care is difficult - so these will be good for my nighttime use once I’m done with the luscent so - I’ll probably add one on now and then when buying something else from the site
I think as lip care these are amazing and you will enjoy them. I don't go to bed without a solid layer of the Laneige lip sleeping mask on. That takes care of my lips like nothing else!
Very few people mentioned the detail about the scent of the butter. It is a fact that lots of natural butter have their unique scents. My purchase is on its way. But once you mentioned this detail, I think I could taste the baume right in my head since I often make lip balms myself.
I think a number of people mentioned that there is some added vanilla scent, that’s why I couldn’t quite place it as butters only. But it seems like not everyone can smell/taste it. Do you have any idea which of the butters in there is giving the play doh scent??
@@mariam.a. I think the mango kernel butter provided some sweetness to the scent. Also the meadowfoam seed oil can provide nutty and fresh earthy scent. But some of these oils or butter products can have no scent depends on the extracting method. So the scent of the baume probably is a choice.
@@zy479 Interestingly, it seems that not all the colours have the scent and taste to the same degree. I think something in the formula or a combination of ingredients was giving a not necessarily desirable scent and they tried to add vanilla to salvage it.
This shade would have been my pick too. But I’ll pass for now. I’m curious about the Linda Hallberg now, coming from another comment here: since these are summer lip products for me, having also SPF makes them more appealing
I bought Metropolis and the taste is indeed not very pleasant(unlike you, I can barely smell it, but I can definitely taste it 😅). I talked with someone from customer support and they said that there is a slight vanilla scent added for masking the smell…personally, I can barely smell the vanilla. For me it tastes like crayon shavings
Ohhh that sucks...tasting it is worse. That makes SO much more sense!!! I knew it was not just crayon and I could smell something sweet in there. I guess they could amp up the vanilla...although that would not help with the taste. I think it is a trade off for having all these amazing butters in there.
I should have watched before buying! A play doh smell to me means a lipstick has gone off. I find it hard to get past that. Too late now--I have 2 on the way. 😢
You can return them if you don't use them (best open it carefully to see/smell) 🙂 and use the refunded money for LE lipsticks (i love the velvets) 🙂 but I personally did not detect any scent, its super mild.
Lisa DOES have a way of telling stories about her products that makes you want them! 😂 I have decided that I have enough balmy lip care products already, and I will pass on this one for now.
I’ll pass on those. I’ve also seen that they are very similar to any korean drugstore melting balm, particularly the Rom&nd ones, and those are one third of the price!
Excellent review! I received mine today! Painful delivery to France as always! I did not think I’d like it; in her video it looked too shiny and slippery! But I tried épanoui (it actually means self fulfillment and contentement in French) and as you said-it was firm without being too firm but also not too soft! I like the formula. Indeed, it has zero lasting power but my lips feel comfortable even when they disappear. To me they smell and taste like Mac lipsticks -vanilla-y! It was the first thing that struck me! The fact that there was a taste/scent! I do love the lucents-painterly being a fav! And I agree that the lucent is such a versatile formula! All in all, I am happy with the formula and will continue to wear ( I usually am a lip balm/lip oil girl through the week)! Congrats on a brilliant analysis!
I think her studio lights made the formula appear shinier so that’s why I was also concerned about slipping and sliding. Haha I love that you smell MAC lipsticks, they are a very pleasant vanilla. Thank you! 🥰💕

Good morning beautiful! I won't add more colors to my collection. I bought two and I like the hidrating feeling on the lips, BUT I think I will enjoy those more during winter time as a lip care. That said, it's the most expensive lip care product I own 🤣
I just prefer more pigment on the lips like the Lucents, but my true love are the Velvets.
I will give it some time...but for now I am also leaning towards just waiting for more lucents.
@@mariam.a. Hmm, that's a really good point.
This shade would have been my pick too. But I’ll pass for now. I’m curious about the Linda Hallberg now, coming from another comment here: since these are summer lip products for me, having also SPF makes them more appealing
I think there are plenty of good options on the market! Especially if you look into Korean makeup too.
I'll give them a careful sniff when they arrive! I really want Metropolis in particular so I'm hoping I can't smell it
Honestly give them a whiff! To me they don’t smell like straight up a play doh and I don’t find the scent repulsive.
Yes, I can taste it. Unfortunately, it doesn't taste great to me. This is the first time I don't like a Lisa Eldridge product 😢
Oooohh nooo!! Did you buy more than one shade?
No, I just got Sweet Fig. I will use it up, but I unfortunately won't repurchase it. I will stick to Lucents. They are the best ❤
@@evakalan4504 I hope you can use it up and somewhat enjoy it. The lucents rule!!
Lisa DOES have a way of telling stories about her products that makes you want them! 😂 I have decided that I have enough balmy lip care products already, and I will pass on this one for now.
If you have a good collection of these already, then these can certainly wait…despite the beautiful stories 😂.
I’ll pass on those. I’ve also seen that they are very similar to any korean drugstore melting balm, particularly the Rom&nd ones, and those are one third of the price!
Good to know!
My lips prefer Lucent over this formula...
I am actually amazed how many of the s still prefer the lucents! They are truly outstanding!!
Thank you! 🥰💕
