I would argue that you can tune Betaflight to behave exactly like a KISS FC and it is easy to "soften up" a quad but difficult to get perfect stick tracking and good propwash handling. Anyhow, people who don't want to tune a lot will *love* the presets feature in Betaflight 4.3.
Mark Spatz has videos on trying this with blackbox logs and still couldn't make it "feel" the same, unless you fly Kiss you just cant explain the differences properly. I love Betaflight but everytime I pull out one of my Kiss quads I immediately notice how much better it actually flies. For a 5 inch freestyle drone nothing compares, also Kiss has had presets for as long as I have used it

Mark Spatz and Chris Rosser have thorough tuning guides but I think we need new "tune with 4 1-minute flights and without blackbox" tutorials for Betaflight 4.3. dude I burned my fettec esc last week, I asked everywhere if it was possible to use other esc than fettec, I did not get answer, and then rotor riot released the perfect video, 15 m before that I order my new esc, i could not imagine betters timings
I'm late to the party but I recently switched over to KISS and never going back. Need to find a good tune for this heavy brick though. About 700 grams all up weight with full sized GoPro, battery, etc. Great vid guys 🤣

You've been able to run any ESC with KISS for a long time. I used Kiss FC V2 and BLHeli_32 ESCs when the Impulse RC Reverb came out and I'm sure it was possible before then. The downside was you couldn't use BLHeli passthrough, although it was possible to do.

Gotta say for just a park flyer that I am betafiight had gotten so out there overwhelming for me. I don't have the time to sit there everyday trying to figure it out. And these new updates they keep doing I'm glad my quads are in emu flight. I would love to switch to kiss cause heard it's just more user friendly!! I run blheli-s on both quads. And being that you just have to make sure settings are set before swapping is not at all a deal breaker for me! Love this video! I've been trying this for awhile now, not because of any kind of failure, but more so because of having mis-matched parts in my arsenal. Vanny touched on this briefly but I've found more success when combining the Fettec ESC with a Betaflight FC. I feel as if the Fettec ESC is the "secret sauce" to that feel we all know and love and when I combined the FETTEC 45a esc with a Zeez F7 v2, it performed a hell of a lot better than when I used the included Zeez BL_Heli32 55a ESC.
I find it funny that after 7 years Betaflight still hasn’t worked out how KISS feels different. I spoke with Felix in private about it once and he knows exactly what makes it feel better but will take that secret to the grave and let Betaflight add yet another filter variable.
Honestly, I think the feeling everyone likes is just too much I term with no anti windup on it. I cant speak for fettec but at least on kiss v2, the anti windup is very weird if it even exists and that is what pilots usually don't realise they like until they try it (for smoothness I mean). Just tuning other firmware to do that I term thing gets you pretty much in the same performance range.

15:14 If it's a BLHELI32 you can switch motor direction on the KISS configurator... Just remember that motor 1 for a BLHELI esc is not motor 1 for KISS and so on...

I recently burned out my Fettec 35a ESC and now my Fettec F7 FC is just sitting on my desk with no matching esc.. before I buy a new Fet. I burn lots of kiss18a back in the days. My theory what that fets where getting real hot, weakening the solder joint and in a crash it they would move just enough to short circuit the PCB trace. I use to epoxy them to fix the issue.

well, basically You cannot show on the vid, how the sticks feel BUT fettec died on me with a small crash, replaced, so the company works, but my build plans changed in the meantime, I sold the replacement, guess what, It crapped on my friends quad almost immedattely , so for me, its a no go...
I had three for three esc failures ranging from 6 packs to 6weeks. I have akion esc been running and battered about for years now. V1 ak32 50amp v2 v3 very tuff hobbywing in a 9” been taking a beating for a year. Fettec just can’t do durable. Kiss 32amp esc also last and have taken a beating. Fettec need to move on with esc and fast. Test code Blheli 32.8.3 rpm based own shows real promise for f3 f4 esc to make there fettec esc nit needed. Fets are tiny not enough surface area for heat rejection in my opinion I don’t know anyone that hasn’t had fettec failure

KISS got a bad rep with their flammable 18amp esc, back in the 4s days. I've been flying KISS for the past 5 years... 5 or 6 quads build with full KISS (and now FETtec gear), and I only got 1 burned esc after a very hard crash, back in my noob days...
i will not use a kiss fc after this video. i also saw what my friends had trouble with activation and find a tune. bf released 4.3 rc3 a few hours ago and with the pidtoolbox, blackbox and some other help with bardwell, rosser and others there will always a lot of help there which kiss is missing in this amount. the other point is this closed software from only one company? why should i do this? what about osd in dji goggles, is this working? i can see no reason to take a kiss over my iflights or t-motor fc-esc stacks. rock stable, even my old Nero F7 Aikon combo is running pack after pack since 2017 in abusing flights.
@@FenderRealm Yes, on ultra i do support hd0 in "flight" mode. You can edit osd and place as you pleased. Ultra menu system in works too. G4 uses own canvas code.
I think this video's relevance is lacking in light of betaflight 4.3. Maybe not but you should do the same thing with 4.3 compared with normal rigs and kiss.
why does everyone still fly 5inchers? surely nowadays other setups would have made it into the Rotor Riot team. theres a lot of availability and inertia in that segment, but is there anyone even running a non standard motor?
What do you think would be a better option? (I'm curious 'cause I have two different sized quads and neither are 5 inch, but they do seem to be the most versatile.)
@@Vousie late reply, but i've been loving my Rekon 4 FR, 4inch sub250 freestyle. i think its a really unpopulated segment, despite it being a much comfier starting spot for beginners while still having ridiculous performance for pros. even going above 250, Boshua Jardwell gave the CatalystMW Shocker 4" more praise than the 5"
I flew KISS in 2014 and gave it many chances over the years, since. But, I fly hard and crash hard and had too many ESC fires. Now that I can use my own ESC, I am happy to give KISS another chance, because, so far, I love the way it flies.
I have wasted my money and time watching Betaflight Videos buying BLheli firmwares for Bidirectional DShot fiddeling around with wrong Filters burning Motors. Since i build MrSteele APEX i noticed how easy all can be. Never had a that good flying Betaflight Quad after Days of tuning. Now everything in my Bag is KISS, Toothpics also and every single one is better flying than any Betaflight quad ever build. I also use Kiss ESC`s no one died yet. I Don`t can explain why but all my Kiss builds feel better with Idle Up and airmode off.
Kiss FC Ultra has Blheli pass through and was built for the intention to use a Kiss FC with any Blheli/Blheli32 ESC.. I challenge the group to use it..
I would think the Kiss devs were smart enough to add blheli pass through. Kiss means "Keep It Super Stupid" I have always flown blheli with my Kiss Fc. Just one little setup with Betaflight then it's all good.
Original KISS V2 had one-way 5v buffers on the motor outputs that prevented using passthrough. KISS Ultra supports passthrough. FETTEC currently does not support passthrough but will support it in the future. The reason is that KISS ESC use a separate telemetry line to talk to the ESC, so there's no need for bidirectional motor signals like with blheli.

Get kiss ultra, fettec g4 doesn’t have blheli passthrough, you must plug your esc into another fc just to access your esc.
FETTEC G4 is getting passthrough in alpha firmware.

The reason is that KISS ESC use a separate telemetry line to talk to the ESC, so there's no need for bidirectional motor signals like with blheli.
@@JoshuaBardwell Didn't know about the V2 but I know with the original hardware it was pretty simple to flash betaflight and set up blheli using passthrough then reflashing kiss, I have a great flying quad with a v1 and a blheli s esc.
come on! emuflight with feathered pids at 0 + 2pass mixer = kiss pids without loosing altitude when yawing. kiss is just expensive emuflight
