    The worst thing about committing a sin you have been trying to break is feeling filthy and empty immediately after :(

      No it's when someone else takes advantage of you and your inoccent and they use you against your will . That's worse than personal wilful sin. Also drugs and alcohol leave us defenseless and than we really fall into unintentional sin.

      Oh for crying out loud. It's called a guilt trip. You are listening to your parent's voice, not any god. Do you feel "filthy and empty" because you sometimes feel attracted to somebody? That's just life as a live being. No big deal. if the god you believe in thinks you deserve eternal punishment for that then he is a monster. If you think you deserve eternal punishment for that then go to a therapist.

      It is too late to pray for the dead. I pray, rather, that more people that are alive will repent and come to Christ (Ephesians 6 :19). After death, there is no use praying to the dead (praying to saints) nor praying for the dead, you can only hope that they will go to heaven, but their eternal destiny is set when they die.
      In Galatians 4:19, Paul has a burden to pray for believers in the Churches of Galatia (Galatians 1:2). In Ephesians 1:16-23 and Ephesians 3:14-21, Paul prays for the believers that are in the Church in Ephesus. I have prayed the prayers in Ephesians for myself, and it is like getting a doctorate in theology, the revelations that I received transformed my life, the lives of relatives and the lives of neighbors. For example, I made the decision to pray these prayers the entire year of 2006. God revealed to my conscience to sell my house and buy it back 5 years later. I sold the house and bought it back for 1/3rd the price.

      The bible says that all sins are mortal. Romans 6:23 says: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. So, there are no venial sins. All sins are mortal. Only by faith in the accomplished works of Christ at the cross, can a man be saved forever.
      See John 3:16...and I quote: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

      Can a believer saved by grace, born of God, commit mortal sin? Mortal sin is obviously an unrepentant act of sin in a practiced nature.
      And if so, how do you deal with 1 John 3:9 with the greek saying those born of God are not ABLE to keep on sinning?
      If those redeemed are not able to practice sin, how do they commit mortal sin????
      This dilemma comes around again in 5:18. Again those born of God do not practice sin.
      Paul says -
      1 Corinthians 12:3 ESV
      Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus is accursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except in the Holy Spirit.
      You need to ask God to save you. Only then will he give you a new heart and renewed mind. Do you believe the Gospel?
      Joel 2:32 ESV - And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.
      Ezekiel 36:26-27 ESV
      And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. [27] And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

    Since August I've prayed a rosary every day and gone to daily Mass. All my prayers have been that my six children (and one daughter in law) would get into a state of grace because I fear the coming chastisement. They had all drifted away, as young adults do. I put it in Mary's hands. My Christmas gift this year is that they all went to confession today (Dec. 26) and I'm so happy I could cry. Pulled up this video as a way to help them.

      VocalMaster Repent and confess your sins to the Lord right now from where you are at... You don't have to wait and confess to another finite sinner (Priest). This is something man made up. The bible or Jesus himself never told anyone you have to go to "Confessions" to repent and in order to be saved and forgiven (Give me proof with scriptures if you disagree). The bible says the second coming of Jesus will come like a thief in the night... You don't know when Jesus is coming again it can be anytime. repent while you still can don't wait for a false approval of a pharisee... sorry priest... you get my point...

    • @vocalmaster6737
      @vocalmaster6737 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yes I agree but I still went to confession anyway because I really enjoy it. I think it's good for us to sit down with someone of faith in any religion to talk about our sins and pray to Jesus together. so that why I still go any way

    • @mattjb8384
      @mattjb8384 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      That's heresy. Scripture tells us to "confess our sins to one another". Jesus told St. Peter "Whoevers sins you forgive are forgiven, and whoevers sins you retain are retained." Why would Jesus give the power to forgive sins to His Apostles if He didn't intend for them to forgive sins? Makes no sense. Jesus created the Sacrament of Confession, and wants us to go confess our sins to the priest so that we can receive absolution. We can confess our sins directly to God in what we call an "Act of Contrition" prayer, but it still requires us to go to Confession as soon as we are able to.

    • @mattjb8384
      @mattjb8384 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You shouldn't agree with him. What Nj Nj said is totally against what the Bible says and what the Church teaches. We go to Confession because Jesus created the Sacrament as a means to be absolved and grow in graces. We do not go merely because we enjoy it. (Although it is good that you do enjoy it!)

      Mark 2:7-8 (KJV)
      7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
      8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
      Pharisee, Jew, and protestants still thinking who can forgive sins but God only? Jesus ask you Nj Nj and protestant ...Why reason ye these things in your hearts? sorry protestants.

      And just because we commit the same sins over and over again, which we all do, we all struggle with different things, and we all fall, but what's important is that you go to confession and truley mean that you're sorry and do not want to sin again. If you happen to commit that same sin again, you are still forgiven becasue you tried, and God loves you even when you fail. What is NOT true repentance is when you go to confession knowing full well you PLAN on committing the same sin again. And you're just confessing so you can get forgiven until you sin, or so that you can recieve communion. Or skipping confession altogether because you know you will commit sin again. Yes we all fall, but with Gods grace, the longer we work hard and trulwy repent, eventually His grace will save us from that particular sin. He saved me from drugs. After years. And im back home in the church and I go to confession weekly because I'm human and I fall in other ways. But don't let anyone tell you confession is pointless or anything like that. Every time we go and r truly sorry, we recieve more grace and get closer to the perfection God's molding us into.

    Tysm, father. I have been agonizing over sin and doing things that I didn't know were grave matters at the time. It's so frustrating because some people will say "that's a grave matter, therefore it's a mortal sin"...and I'm like...well I want to say sorry to God, but I honestly didn't know. If I had known, I wouldn't have done it. The worst was entering into a civil marriage with my husband, not realizing that as baptized and confirmed Catholics, it was required that it be sacramental. Didn't know any better at the time, and are going through convalidation now....but man. I was panicking thinking this was a state of mortal sin and I shouldn't have been taking Eucharist....but it's not in this case, right? It can't be mortal if you didn't realize it was a sin when you did it and are taking steps to fix it now that you know, right?

    • @eternalbyzantium262
      @eternalbyzantium262 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@toxbic That's a kind of weird question, because the idea of mortal sin is biblical even if non-catholic christians reject that notion. Its the Catholics who make the mortal and venial sin notion explicit in the church, but non-catholic christians do not adhere to that but will somewhat acknowledge that there are seriously grave sins. So its a Christian concept, not all christians adhere to that concept. Hope that helps dear friend in Christ ❤️
      Venial sin in the Bible:
      All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
      1 John 5:17
      Mortal sin in the Bible:
      If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life-to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
      1 John 5:16-17
      Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
      1 Corinthians 6:9-10
      Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.
      Colossians 3:5-8
      Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

    If there isn't already one, it would be really nice if you could make a video specifically on the sin of lust, and how to tell when you're just being tempted and when you're giving in. I don't know if anyone else would find it helpful, but I know I've been struggling with that a lot lately.

    • @2Uahoj
      @2Uahoj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it involves prolonged staring at a person or images so as to inspire arousal, then it is in the realm of lust. If it is simply a momentary glance at someone who is attractive and then a turning away, it is not lust. A very good tip against this sin is weekly fasting and daily mass and reception of the Eucharist. Also, living with a Christian roomate or someone who you can pray with together in the evenings can help enormously.

      Why don't you just pray, repent, and confess your sins to God right then and there from where you are at??? Did Jesus ever say to go to a church and confess your sins to another man in order for God to forgive you? Where in the Bible does it say to do that and that's the only way? You really think God would forgive you any less if you don't repent at a church to another man? Jesus made it so simple for us yet us humans twist it and make it more complicated then it needs to be....

    Thank you Father Mike, for these videos, I was baptized and raised catholic until I was around 9 or 10 (I honestly can't remember), and I had my first confession and Communion, but then my family just stopped going to Mass, and I began calling myself an atheist, for about 10 years. I'm 19 now, and have recently been trying to reconnect with my faith through the Catholic Student Ministry on my campus, and I have questions as I prepare myself for my first confession in 10 years: how general can I be? If I don't remember the exact act that I did that was sinful, but I remember it happened, can I just say "I know I said something blasphemous against God, but I don't remember exactly what I said" in the confession? I also feel like if I sit there pouring out 10 years worth of sins the priest will judge me for everything I did (it's a long list, I'm not proud of that, but that's the truth). I know they are supposed to be non-judgmental, but this is what happens when I think about this for too long: my anxiety gets hyperactive. Any words of advice or encouragement?

    I don't know why, but this video made me cry at the end.... :'( Jesus still wants to fix my life. I pray that this will continue and that the Holy Spirit will draw me to confession. It's really hard for me right now because of my personal questions, doubts, bad experiences in the past, recent depression, my losing of faith, my kind of tendency to agnosticism in the past recent years, my sins, etc. I pray that God will give me the grace to go and do, 'cause personally I am really struggling as of the moment. I just always pray to God to always help me to strengthen my faith again, 'cause honestly I admit that it is weaker right now with all of the questions and doubts in my mind. My mind right now is struggling between believing all in science but with less love to Jesus or loving Jesus fully and having deeper relationship with God. I need prayers. I always had been a part of the church, prayerful, and I even did catechism works and serving as a lector or commentator in the church before or the one who's reading a passage from the Bible or leading the responses for the mass. I remember that everything changed after I chose to focus on my studies in school (high school) while leaving fully my service in the church. Since that, everything went fine and good in my schooling but I felt so empty and misguided, and then everything went wrong, from my quitting of school due to depression, my anxiety problems, my personal fears increased, I became less sociable and afraid to leave our house or becoming sociophobic, and started to lose my diligence for prayer life and mass. Maybe God's grace is still trying to call me through this video. I do pray and cry in prayer when I confess my sins in prayer to God, but I never had confession with a priest since that day I have my first confession before my first communion. It's been a long time since I kind of neglected God in my life, though from that day I do pray, go to mass, attend religious observances, and wanted to have a deeper relationship and understanding of God, etc. but I felt so empty at those times, like there's something lacking within me. I know God will help me and through me to do it. I pray that He will destroy my doubts and questions in mind as well as my fears especially in going to confession. Many people see me as a good person, positive, helpful, intelligent, wise, wide-reader, etc. but they don't just know how I struggle everyday with no proper and clear direction in life, suffering fears, anxieties and depression, that my curiosity in learning lead me to doubt and question everything I believed in strongly before. People don't just know how much sinful I am, and though i never did kill anyone or do murder, but I always compare my sins in life as mortal equal as killing, murdering, stealing, or breaking all the commandments of God at once. I even thought of before that I am not worthy anymore of God's love and forgiveness. I am still in wandering about my life's meaning and purpose, 'cause I tried to give it my own meaning, but it never went right and I am still unfulfilled. I had many good successes, but they're all not fulfilling. I know I am really lacking God in my life unlike the way I started to have relationship with Him when I started to learn how to pray from my grandma and mother. I know I lack God now unlike that time before my mind is opened about the concepts that in the world, there are right and wrong, and that some people are praised while some are punished. I still remember those time of innocence and those times when my mind slowly learned about the world around me, and how complex and wide life and the world are, how I encountered for the first time that there are multitudes of beliefs in the world, that people are different and divided, that some people are judged. I still remember those times of innocence and the times I am not innocent anymore to the worldly things around me, to the goodness and evil of humanity, to the concept of sin, to the concept of divisions and differences, to the concepts of different beliefs and "truths", to the concept of science vs religion, to everything. I hope I just remained as an innocent young child who still do pray with my grandma (may her soul rest in peace) and who never had doubts, questions, and fears, but love, faith, innocence, and seeing everyone as equal to my eyes. Those times when I still see no divisions, no differences, no good and evil distinction, no people receiving awards while others are put to jail, and those times when I knew not more about the world to question and doubt. I am an introvert and all my life I am more of a listener and observant to the things around me than an active speaker. I still remember those very times I knew about that people do die, question why people do get sick, question why there are so divisions, and the first time I question of my very purpose and existence. I hope to be back or even a bit more closer again to God. I know that praying while crying and confessing in my room about my sins to God and other people is not enough and that I need to go to confession, but please pray for me to do so, I am in a great dilemma or problem especially my fears, questions, and doubts getting on me these recent years. I always to teach my brother to be humble and not narcissist, but here I am living in pride of not putting myself in humility to confess before Jesus through the priest. I am also ashamed and embarrassed to go and confess. I know God and the priest will not judge me, but still I feel so bad about my sins and still think that I am so sinful that I am not worthy of God's grace and love anymore. Please pray for me. May the Holy Spirit guide me and give me strength and especially humility to bow down and cry before God and confess my sins in all humility.

      Okay, Capt. Prot., riddle-me-this: You've received justification before God through valid baptism, then, one day, you utter, "No, honey, you don't look fat in those pants". You've voluntarily, willingly, nullified your justification through willful sin, but, hey, wink, it's all good, right? Worse yet, after valid baptism you look at your neighbor who just took your shoveled-out parking space with murderous intent. But it doesn't matter how grave your sin was, does it?
      You should pay some attention to the Church founded by Jesus Christ and His Apostles, just as the Apostle Paul tells you to, by making reference to tradition in his writings.

      All wrongdoing is sin. rome 6:23 doesnt even say anything about mortal sin. It talks about the qonsequence of the original sin that brought us to the incarnation of jesus. but not all sins are mortal 1 john 16-20.

      @ֆքǟռ-m5g 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Douglas do you not read the scripture. Romans 6:23 says for the wages of sin is death. (All SIN!) were does the Bible say some sin is lessor and will not separate you from God? How do we know when Venial sin ends and a mortal sin begins? There is no such line made in the Bible. But by man only. Any sin I commit is covered by the blood of Christ. His death was the God given atonement for the sin of mankind.
      Hebrews 10:12
      “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;”
      King James Version (KJV)
      Jesus told the Pharisees that they would have greater condemnation for what they taught. This shows that some sin will cause greater condemnation, but not there is a sin that will not separate you from God.

      Occasnl Trvlr where does the Bible say that you’re justified through baptism🤔.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
      New International Version
      8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
      Baptism is in compliance to the faith we received from God. But baptism does not bring salvation or justification! Read the Bible not the magisterium..🙂

      Douglas Matthew 5:28
      “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
      King James Version (KJV)
      The it’s not physically necessary Jesus teaches about the spirit of the law. You don’t physically have to have sex with somebody else as wife to have committed adultery and be charged for it in your heart by God.

    • @2Uahoj
      @2Uahoj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe this willl help. Many (not all) Protestants believe that faith alone in Christ is all that matters due to their misunderstanding of the words of St. Paul, in which they believe Paul speaks in favor of faith over works. But in fact, Paul is not speaking of works in the sense of doing good deeds, but rather what he terms "works of the law" - which were all of those traditional repetitious acts Jews had to perform each week, such as ritual washings etc. The Catholic position, therefore, has always been that faith goes hand in hand with works (good deeds), for as St. Augustine famously said, 'God does not choose to save us without our own cooperation.' Hope this helps!

They do multiple videos on the difference between the two beliefs and give deep rooted examples and evidence dating back to the first Christians and church history along with quoting directly from scripture . Check them out 😀

    • @brentcrude8153
      @brentcrude8153 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @The Miserable Man The difference is just more kneeling, right? Just kidding. Another major difference is The Magisterium. When a catholic goes to the Priest with a problem,
      the priest arrives at a dictum after consulting with The Magistrate (a hierarchy of men). For example: homosexuality used to be against the rules, now, it has been deemed
      by these men, to be an acceptable practice; Divorce was once a grave offense (sin) against persons, the family and the whole culture, now it's just fine.
      When Protestants go to the church with a problem, the Reverend says: "Let's go to The Book for an answer". For The Protestant, The Bible, the Divinely inspired Word of The Lord, is the source for answers. A true believer in Christ calls no earthly man "Father". As it is written:
      "But you are not to be called ‘rabbi,’ for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.
      Neither be called ‘masters,’ for you have one master, the Christ" (Matt. 23:8-10).

      All sin is forgiven by grace through Faith. For it is imputed (laid to our account) righteousness. He (God) is faithful and Just to forgive all sin and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. We have a great High Priest, Jesus. He is superior to all man-made priests. He lives forever, and intercedes on our behalf. We are clothed in HIS righteousness. We are called children of God and no longer slaves. Amen!

      I highly encourage that you research multiple known-to-be-valid Catholic resources like websites and books to see what the Church's teaching is on this, as I know that your question is answered somewhere at some point. Infact I believe it is mentioned in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, so that's a great place to begin looking.

    • @GenXer82
      @GenXer82 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@egschmad8867 From what I've read from various sources, including the Catechism, Jesus is not bound by His Sacraments, so He does make exceptions. Each of us is judged on a case-by-case basis, and Jesus does everything He could to save a person if they have repentance in their heart.

    Well I would like to say I have been struggling with this horrible sin of cheating in school.I am fully aware it is wrong and aware of the costs.I still pray often and go to mass regularly and do the best I can as a catholic besides this point.I know it is probably a mortal sin and I commit it constantly and am struggling with it and think it’s faster etc.I However am resolving to go to confession after I complete the school year next month and completely relieve myself from cheating ever again.I am just scared I will lapse back into this horrible habit.It is even worse that I am waiting for after school to confess my sins I know but I am truly sorry and feel anguish for what I have done and yet to do.I am fine if nobody reads this but I couldn’t talk about it to anyone so I put it somewhere .
    If you can please pray for me or just send a thought to god for me

    I have a question... If one were to commit what would be a mortal sin, but it's missing one of the three requirements for a sin to be mortal, would the act not be a sin altogether then? Or would it be a venial sin? Or would it depend on the specific act?

      Nick Your boi I'm late, but I'll try to answer anyway. Well, I would try and remember that no matter what you've done, chances are that the priest has heard the same sin or much worse. He's probably heard decades of sins, chances are he's heard yours. Also, priests aren't perfect either, I'm sure they have committed mortal sins as well whether that be before the priesthood or during. They might have even done your exact sin as well. So, it is scary to confess your sins, there is no way to get around the fear most of the time, but I think you can get through it (and maybe you already have considering it's been 3 months😂). Praying for you❤️

      Do not be afraid! I fell away from my faith and was ashamed and broken for the last 12 years of my life and stayed away from confession but knew I couldn’t receive the precious Eucharist . All I can say is grace is real and I felt so compelled to go to confession. My life changed the day I walked out of confession and I go every 3 weeks or so and receive the Eucharist. I am happier than I’ve ever been. I highly suggest reading St. Faustina diary. I also suggest reading the 7 secrets to confession. Life changing. Also find a priest you can truly make a regular confession to. They are your spiritual guide. You are going into the confessional to meet Jesus truly present . He already knows your sins, but it takes humility to kneel down and tell Jesus you are sorry. I was so prideful for so many years harboring sin and anger. Once I let that go I was free. My first confession back was on the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows! I love confession now. It is truly a gift and when you can receive the Eucharist it restores your life. Also go to Adoration and tell Jesus you are scared and to give you the grace and the push to go . I hope this helps.
