@@olandersnake Agreed, horrible data security and protection practices to say the least!!
Did you retry with the VRM heatsink fan connected as well as the battery?
@@olandersnake Don't tell other people what to do, if you don't like it don't use it.
Greg did you find what is wrong with the motherboard???
Fix or Flop is easily my favorite PC series on TH-cam. The amount of knowledge you gain just from watching is priceless.
Even though replacing the motherboard is the most labor intensive, it’s certainly not the most expensive. Great find!
Odd I have the x570 variant of this and it does not include the USB C header.
Those mitx strix boards are usually hella expensive though
Labor intensive just means it's the funnest part to replace.
@@ObsidianSoul1 true, doesn’t mean he needs to replace it with another Strix board
@@ObsidianSoul1 don't look up the new gene board $998 if you can even find one Asus made like 12 then discontinued them they were the perfect match for a 7800x3D
In terms of contacting the seller after the fix, I think the fact that it wasn't a private seller, rather a wholesaler, so honestly, they probably wouldn't care if it was an easy fix. Them being a wholesaler they probably bought the rig for like $150 so they still probably made a profit.
I was holding my breath when you showed battery socket. I wish it would work. Another great episode. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I'd still try a different cmos battery before I pitched that board. Bought a 1 year old aurora r9 a couple of years ago for super cheap because it was having the most random no power/no boot issues. Bad 2032 battery.
The seller probably tried to wipe the bios and disconnected the cable for that, I would assume.
@@EhEhEhEINSTEIN Can't say I've seen a board in recent history that required a cmos battery to boot.
I bought a broken Asus ROG Strix B550-I myself not too long ago, thankfully the warranty had not been registered and ASUS honors warranty based upon original manufacture date, not original purchaser! You have a good shot at RMA’ing it
I have the same board bought from ebay and last night tried build my pc but the board isn't working how did you get RMA? If you dont mnd sharing thanks
I wonder if they buggered up a BIOS update and tried removing the CMOS battery to try and resolve it. Maybe. Still weird. Great vid Greg!
Asus is still supporting the board. There is a Bios update this month.
If the mainboard has a BIOS rescue mode, like updating the bios without turning the PC on, via a dedicated usb slot, maybe try that? Or, more elaborate, you could try to flash the BIOS with an external programmer. Or change the BIOS chip ^-^; Maybe not reasonable.
@@AsriazhTo update a bios from a motherboard that doesnt post .. it at least has to try booting.
This one doesnt even turn on the power.
Its dead Jim .. but not as we know it.
@@forcem6587Nope. on my MSI x570 board you just have to put a USB stick into a certain port while the board is off, press a button next to it for a couple of seconds and there's a seperate process not related to the board being on or booted into the BIOS which tries to recover the BIOS from a file called MSI.ROM which is the latest or whatever BIOS you renamed. No booting needed :D
@@Asriazh exactly this. You don’t even have to have a CPU installed from what I recall
That's why it's important to have an access on spare parts. You can rule out any broken hardware easier. Thanks for the knowledge Greg!
It could be that the bios was bricked during an update. That board appears to support bios flashback, It wouldn’t hurt to give it a try
Motherboards with corrupt BIOSes still power on in my experience.
@@GregSalazar Might be worth a shot to try regardless, you never know. If only to have it checked off the list of stuff you've tried. We seen several times in these videos of yours how you can still be surprised sometimes and who knows, maybe some weird quentum-mechanics are at play here
@@YYorle You're right! I'll try to remember to check this next time.
I'm assuming you checked the battery itself? Although on a newer rig like this, I expect it would be fine.@@GregSalazar
All boards i have ever had will power on if they have corrupted or non-existing bios. I suspect the issue is more in lines of power button signal or power not getting to SuperIO chip that handles power buttons and example post leds, something shorted in the board that pulls all signals to oblivion of ground plane.
Hello Gregor! You bought a popcorn machine! (I secretly know its a pc)
LOOOL this is an excellent description of whatever this Tt case is 😂
Looks more like a 3d printer imo, but you’re very right!
@@GregSalazar At least its unique lol.
I have the tower 500 case and love it. my next build will be in a tower 200 case.
Gregor? I didn't know how had a nickname. 😂
Excellent find! I am frequently watching this series for just everything i can learn about troubleshooting and diagnosing systems. I don't have IT work but we have 5 systems here at home that MIGHT break down soon. Also its entertaining to finally discover what the eff is happening to broken rigs! More power to you Greg!
I was hoping that plugging in the CMOS would have worked for you. Glad that you got some working components out of this. Nice case that it came with too.
I missed this series. Love your videos.
Thanks for coming back!
My favorite moment.. A new fix or flop video to learn from
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS! Please don’t let up on the eBay listing fixes, they’re so interesting!
I agree with this, I love the fix videos and love the fix ones from eBay just as much as a viewer. Honestly the fix videos are my favorite that Greg makes.
Did you check the CMOS battery itself? Could it be dead?
This was my suggestion as well. Easy test and cheap to replace if it's indeed dead.
Great video! I am in the process of starting up a PC recycling/repair business and have gotten a lot of information and inspiration from your content! Much love. ❤
POPCORN MACHINE LESSGOOOO great vid!!!!
Love the series! Please continue with it. Cheers!
Loved this! Happy things turned out good in the end for you. Thank you for the content.
I love your channel it's so relaxing watching you troubleshoot and update computers.
If the motherboard is still under warranty with the manufacturer you might as well attempt to get them to replace it as well.
Board is from 2020, first bios on website is June 2020…
warranty is from sale date on the reciept, so id used to dummy up a receipt and RMA them back. the best result was M$ dated my surfaseRT from when I REGISTERED it, the day before I RMA it and they must have wharehouses full of these old things as they sent me with in a week a new one and the old one was 10 years old!
@@mrsrhardy I think he said it was a strix. Asus will warranty stuff from the serial number date if you lose your receipt.
@@covante4822 You can see the Strix branding next to the memory slot at 17:00
Great video Gregg! Fix or flop is definitely my favorite series.
This was a great example of troubleshooting, and a real nice find for you. I hope your next repair benefits from your good luck.
great job, loving the content. this is why I watch this channel. just watching the process you use to diagnose the issues.
I envy your luck when it comes to these finds, Greg. Nicely done.
Great vid! Always happy to learn with you, Greg!
Greg’s been hitting that late night EBay search as of late for sure, lol. Love the content as always!
Great vid. Enjoyed seeing the troubleshooting process.
keep up with the good work, mate
honestly liking the switching up of content with some variation, always keeps things fresh and exciting
Yes variety is very nice
I really enjoy these videos, so please do not give up on them. All your various series I find very enjoyable Greg. Thanks!
Great video Greg, love the 'will it wont it?' mystery quest.
Great fix Greg. definitely more like this. 👍
Thanks, Daniel!
? He did not fix it...
I really love this kind of video, always a treat to see you investigate and in this case to put a gamble on an online buy !
I really enjoy the troubleshooting videos thanks Greg
Great episode and comeup! Keeping notes to check every component before calling quits on your pc.
Great content! Hopefully you can get the board working!
So hype, another idea I'll have to try in the future. Thanks for the vids, always lots to learn for troubleshooting.
I love these types of videos because you show what is wrong as well as what could be wrong. As well as the financial aspect of it.
Hey Greg, love the videos. Have you tried to use the asus bios flash back? Almost all recent asus boards have it and all you need is power to the board and a usb in a specific port on the back and it can recover from a bad flash or corrupt image.
"ASUS EZ DIY
-BIOS Flashback™ button
-BIOS FlashBack™ LED"
I would do this and possibly try a CH341A BIOS flasher if RMA is unsuccessful.
Love these fix it videos!! Also, I love that case. Built one for my sister and she turned it into a claw machine theme. Also, It had similar components.
Great buy! I was waiting in anticipation for what you would find to fix it.
Nice win, I am sure the parts will end up in a viewers broken PC soon enough. Keep up the good work.
Is it possible that one of the owners disconnected the CMOS battery in an attempt to reset the BIOS config? If it's assumed they were disconnecting the power switch cables in an attempt to troubleshoot, it seems reasonable they would reset the CMOS battery. Although it doesn't make sense why they wouldn't reconnect the CMOS battery before giving up on it. Unless they tried another CMOS battery?
Might be a bad BIOS flash
Man that CMOS moment was fun lol Great find and Great vid! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
love your work mate and love orlando to been over to Florida many times over the years.keep up the good work.
Great PC troubleshooting video!
Loved the Ayrton's helmet at the back.
You could use the parts you "harvested" from this purchase in other FoF videos, as give-aways as you mentioned or for upgrades for family/friends.
Love the series.
Yeah, I have a feeling Greg will put these parts to very good use. If I had to bet, I'd say he'll likely use every last part (except the motherboard).
Its incredible how you can keep the audience excited to wait the result, as for me tho. Great series! subbed!
If the motherboard has bios flashback you could try it. It’s worth a try.
Interesting Idea... maybe 😀
Always looking forward to watching your videos right before bedtime ☺️
Much love 🙌♥️
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@GregSalazar every single one 😍👏 God bless you you to bless us with more of your videos
keep up the good work. really enjoy your content
Nice find! I have watched your videos almost as soon as you posted them, but for some reason I didn't get them in my feed in the last month or so. Hopefully now I'm gonna get them cuz I binge watched like 6 videos :D
Hi Greg, have you checked the battery voltage to see if the actual CMOS 2032 battery is ok? I once had a PC that wouldn't turn on with the CMOS battery connected and it wasn't until I replaced the battery with a new one that would fix the issue. Great video as always!
You need to do this to complete the diagnosis
@@MrMannakin Yes, battery voltage was measured at just over 3V. We've measured this with our multimeter in several FoF episodes - the test just doesn't always make the final cut. Will try to always include this from now on.
I love to see working parts saved from the landfill.
Hey greg! Been watching your video for a long time. Cant wait to see more content. Always a good watch while i eat :)
Always love a fix or flop vid.
Fun change up of the F or F formula, love these videos.
I like this kind of episode as a possible "parts harvesting" episode for fix or flop. One at the beginning, middle and near end of each season would be cool. I doubt you will get very many like this. But even a few working parts per episode might be worth it.
Love your channel bud. You've inspired me to build my own gaming rigs.
Glad to hear it!
The last two things I would have tried would be clearing the CMOS and trying the flash back option (if the board has the option).
Good stuff man!
You hit the jackpot! What a find!
Great find Greg. Since I am cursed with curiosity, I wish you would have measured the CMOS battery's voltage on camera just for fun. Please keep up Fix or Flop. Love it!
Hi Greg, I had a similar issue with an MSI B550 board. Battery voltage was 2.7V and the system won't power on. With a new battery it worked perfectly fine again.
Yeah that was my immediate thought after seeing the cmos battery disconnected
@@kelpklepto We measured battery voltage at just over 3V. Not the issue here, unfortunately.
@@GregSalazar oh, darn, yeah that board isn't worth the trouble then lol
That's a for sure steal.... great find!!!
AWESOME video greg!!
Great result Greg, love fix and flop video's, but I wonder did you check the battery voltage? Or tried a known working battery?
Good stuff Greg!
I hope you do more videos like this, obviously it would be expensive as heck to do it often.... but once in a blue moon, maybe a mini series idea?
Well, it cost nothing here, a 3070, 5600X, RAM, PSU and case for 500 bucks + monetization of video? There is risk, yeah, but certainly not "expensive" so far, he'd be on the positive side on this one.
Been there and done that. Sometimes it's totally worth it to roll the dice. Recently got an Asrock X570 phantom gaming 4 motherboard for 25 dollars including shipping on Ebay and it works aside from missing the cooling fan on the southbridge heat sink. Cut the frame off a 40mm fan and used 2 sided tape to stick the fan on and it fit perfectly. It has a new home in my htpc atm.
Excellent content as always, Greg! Great PC parts and most of all, nice watch.😉
Thanks again!
Great find
Great find, you lucked out on this one!
Did you check the CMOS battery after you seated the plug?
Man, watching these videos gets you really invested
That makes me happy to hear! Hopefully entertaining and (maybe) educational!
@@GregSalazar Always thinking about what's the next step on finding out the problem. Usually I'm not even close but that doesn't bother me!
Love this serie, you can connect a speaker in the motherboard for the beep codes, also you can clean the connectors with alcohol
a great episode. thanks for sharing.
Awesome video! What do you personally do with the bad computer parts?
You crazy son of a gun, you gotta keep these coming now! The risk/reward factor kept me at the edge of my seat!
Gambling Greg 😄living on the edge ..love it
I actually really like this case. Great find Greg.
congrats. good find/repair
Amazing find!
Good catch on the CMOS battery. Makes me want to surf eBay more for deals like these! Also, if you want to repurpose the Tower 200 a m-ATX board should fit in there even though TT doesn't list those as compatible.
Very nice. Great and lucky buy for you. I went and bought a RX 6800 on Monday. Loving the card.
nice video, as usual! a win for future Fix and Flop spare parts
Another great video i was watching that exact pc for a project but it went higher than i wanted to spend crazy
Subscribed to the channel, came across a few days ago watching vids about pc fans lol. Seems like cool vibes all around. Looking forward to more
I appreciate it!
did you get a chance to do a stability test on the gpu and cpu? Good find and great video!!
have you checked cmos voltage? or replaced for a new one? just peel the black plastic on the original cmos, pull the terminal (spot welded on the cmos), replace a new cmos, just tape the cmos touching its respective terminal.
Love your videos just waiting for your new entry to series.
nice to see that there are these gems in the wild
Really cool tower. Maybe a future re-purpose or donor build. Great video
That was a great video, you took a chance and it paid off.
Pretty awesome find. Would have been nice if you had an AM4 ITX board to swap in
Previous owner had trouble with it powering on so they probably pulled that CMOS battery cable out of the motherboard to try & clear it just like why the CPU cooler was loose to check for bent pins or debris. Then they gave up & put it on Ebay to cut their losses. Nehoo ya that was a good pickup Greg. You quite possibly turned a fix or flop into a future flip. Congrats on this little gem of a find & thanks for sharing. :)
Was about to make the same comment about the seller pulling the CMOS battery connector to clear setting. I would say given how other connectors were left disconnected this seems to be the obvious scenario.
I just noticed TH-cam stopped recommending me your videos. I’m glad I have lots of videos to catch up on haha.
Welcome back!
You're one lucky guy on winning this bid greg, but I mean for you it is a win since you technically have the extra parts to test on which part of the rig is dead but for other person who would attempt this would quite need more luck and also a super instinct on which part to replace. Nonetheless, great video greg! enjoyed this series so much can't wait to watch more.
