This makes a very smart tailored looking hat. If your head is not as long, may want to start decreases sooner. Once a hat is made you can measure the heads you are making it for. My head is larger than my husbands (go figure). And maybe take off some rows. She said she began the decreases at row 10, but I actually counted 11, it just has more roll up brim on my sample hat, with is quite stylish, almost a Roaring 20's Flapper, style updated of course.
I got a double-ended Tunisian hook made of bamboo, a set made by Stitch Berry off Amazon. The hook came in a set, they are 13/14" long hooks. I used a size 9.00mm M/N-13. The hooks are very nice, and any roughness works out as you use them the first time, picking up the natural oils of your hands. I think I will make one using the 10.00mm US#15 N/P as it is snug. And not use as many rows before the decreases. As someone had pilfered the hooks out of the mailing package, the vendor sent them UPS at no extra charge for me and gave me some bonus hooks because of the delay. Nice of the Vendor but the US Post Office has people who are delivering packages which are obviously empty. Didn't get sent out that way. I am not accusing anyone but it does not take a lot of figuring out what happened. We have locked mailboxes here.
I made a hat following the directions on the video using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick which is Super Bulky. I used a Grey Marble and a Dark Denim Blue with the blue being dominant. I have enough left to make another two hats, I think.
I worked on and off on it over 3 hours, rewinding the video and making notes. If I just sat and made the hat, I could make 2-3 in an afternoon/evening as I crochet fast, 4 if I burned the midnight oil. So for last minute gift giving, it is a great pattern. But I am starting my making in July this year so I don't go crazy.
Some videos have captioned translation but this one does not. If you speak any of the Romance language, you can pick up enough of the meaning, at least I did.
This pattern in all worked in Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS ). The below directions are not a tutorial but are for those who already know how to do TSS and to also work it in the round using a double-ended Tunisian hook, aka a double-ended crochet hook. You could also use a double kit of interchangeable crochet hooks like the Denise kit. Note, you'd need to buy and extra hook to make this pattern work; I do have two tunisian kits (interchangeable crochet hooks) like this but from Knitter's Pride in bamboo as I love bamboo. But I wanted to learn the technique using the long hook. Glad I did, was loads of fun to do. I think the Denise kit is cheaper to buy, but I just don't like plastic hooks. My preference.
The pattern is easy. Chain 46, join in a round being careful to not twist the work, then work in Tunisian simple stitch as shown in the video with the double ended hook. Make 6 to 11 rows depending upon how long you want the hat from the center of your head. If you want a larger turn up brim for a ladies hat, you may want it longer like I made mine. Depends on your head. You may need to make a sample hat as yarn and hook sizes and your tension may effect your results. At the point you begin the decreases, you only make decrease on the right side and this is working ten stitches then decrease two stitches together, you do this twice on each half round and keep this up till you have 5 stitches between decreases 4 places. Then you decrease 3 stitches in 4 places and by that time you may just want to leave a long enough tail and sew the rest and make it pretty. Leave about a foot as I needed to add yarn I snipped it too short at the top of the head. Pick up remaining stitches with a yarn needle, pull tight and weave in.
Weave in ends on the brim and you are done. If it is a bit snug, it will stretch some, but when playing in the snow, it won't fall off and no wind will blow it off and it certainly will keep your head warm.
    Hope this helps.
Thank you, Daniela Bevilacqua, for a great tutorial.

Thank you so much for your instructions and for taking the time to put them here! I love the look of this hat and love Tunisian crochet in the round. So much simpler than circular needles and DPNs. I look forward to trying this following your lead :) Thank you again.

Grazie anticipatamente.

Ciao Daniela, complimenti per il tutorial: chiarissimo. Desidererei anch'io poter avere i fascicoli.

Grazie.
