    So glad when you post. Do the chickens get enough nutrients from the nests or do you have use commercial food and consider the nests as snacks?

    • @HornetKingOfficial
      @HornetKingOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +166

      Thank you!
      Insects are chickens natural diet along with grass plants, pebbles, etc. Being that the girls are free range, they eat more than just larvae, but the larvae provide a lot of fats and proteins, among many minerals as well.
      I only feed the girls natural seeds and things during the winter to supplement nutrition they aren't getting naturally due to winter time.

      Do you think this special diet makes a difference to the quality of the eggs the hens produce? The larvae would have a lot of nutrition for them, and I've got a feeling the yolks will be a lovely dark yellow, with lots of protein. Sorry if this has been asked before!

    Bret, I know you do removals pretty much on a daily basis and may feel it is repetative or even mundane but to us viewers it is really interesting. Remember we don't see wasps all the time and we almost never see the nests so for us to see it makes it highly interesting. I kinda enjoyed the experiments with re-housing the colonies you removed and I kinda enjoyed the tests to see if two or more nests would combine as one. It is also interesting to see that two different species/sub species don't mind being housed so close together too.

    I don’t recall if you’ve answered this before but how do you normally seal the opening on the outside to prevent them from getting back in? I know you spray the cavity but I’m guessing you would also need to seal the opening to prevent future nests.

    • @HornetKingOfficial
      @HornetKingOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Thats the customer's responsibility to seal their home. Most cases, it's related to rotten plywood under siding, or lifted shingles and flashing, etc. I tell the homeowners how to seal their spaces, but that's a whole different service.

    I notice the chickens don't really like poking and chawing on live hornets, but if they're still in the cell, but fully or mostly developed, will they chow on that? or do they focus exclusively on the larva only? Same with squirrel and other critters.

    In Ontario Canada there were these ground nesting black wasps that had small white stripes on their back and they were about the same size as yellow jackets (definitely in the yellowjacket family) they were super aggressive. I can't find any info on these wasps, can't find them online anywhere. The ones I've encountered nest under-ground, pretty big colonies, they're aggressive.
    The weirdest thing is that we had this bald faced hornet's nest above our backdoor in Ontario and one day I noticed a bunch of dead bald faced hornets on the ground, I looked up and these smaller black wasps had replaced them. First time I had ever seen anything like that, seems like these black yellow jackets or whatever they've attacked the bald faced hornets nest and took over the colony. Insane stuff, there were two people with me who saw this.

    Its time to get right with Jesus. nobody is automatically gonna go to heaven at the end of it, we all have lied or stolen or had sex before marriage and the punishment is hell. Jesus died so you can get a clean slate and forgiveness of future sins if you repent of them once you commit them, so you receive the gift of forgiveness by following him. When you start you have to stop sinning, and follow his word and obey it. That’s following Jesus. Read your Bible

    Dude, where have you been lately? I was just on another channel and just had the sudden thought “What’s happened to Hornet King lately?”
    I know life happens, was just making sure all is ok.

    Last summer, I was befriended by a European paper wasp. I don't know where her nest was, but she turned up every morning if I carried a cup of coffee outside. I'm highly allergic to venom so I nearly pooped myself the first time she alighted on my arm. She was eternally docile, and would make her way down my arm to crawl over my index finger. She loved honey or a drop or two of sugar water. I had made friends with the carpenter bees at our old house, so this experiment seemed like a good thing to have with her. Her name was "Bee Thing". It wasn't until Autumn's onset that I learned these wasps die before winter. The last day I saw her, she had alighted on our kitchen window screen and just remained there, her final goodbye I suppose. Is this all normal behavior for European paper wasps?
