The great Roger Humphries on drums. A Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Famer - it's so special to see a young Roger with Horace Silver in '64. Roger was on the original recording of Song For My Father, but this video confirms the legend, the myth - that Roger was truly an actual member of the Silver Quintet. And this video proves the fact. His nephew Greg Humphries is also a gifted drummer, and another Pittsburgh Jazz legend. Props to Roger Humphries, who still performs regularly in his hometown - and was considered a drummer prodigy in his toddler days. He comes from a very musical family on the North Side section of "The Burgh." Proud to say I know Mr. R. Humphries and learned jazz drumming tips from Greg while we were students at Point Park University, in downtown Pittsburgh, circa 1977-1980.

True, and Roger looked so young here. I would guess he is barely 18 or 19 and already playing so fantastic. Then again, Louis Hayes was just as young when he began playing with Horace in 1957!

Roger has been a long time friend and I was blown away to see him on this. Horace and Roger were together for so many years, of and on, and Roger still knocks me away on drums. He was drummer on Cape Verdean Blues set.

Cool to hear Horace play one of his tunes that he had already recorded, he didn’t do that often (with the exception of Song for My Father)

beautiful. I had a crappy job that I had to drive to for 2 years and listening to the jazz radio station and discovering him (sadly, because he died) made it worth it. His passion reminds of me of the insane guy at the piano in Reefer Madness, but with more skills.

The video "freezes" at the 12:38 mark and doesn't "un-freeze" for the rest of the video's run (although the audio continues). What's up with that? Can it be fixed?

il est à se demander pourquoi H. Silver accompagne les solistes de manière si hachée.

    • @leanne538

Culture ,choix , genie une conception rythmique du piano permettant au soliste de s accapparer la melodie .
J adore le discours piano drum soliste 👍
