    Hi...What happens to the grandparent owned 529 if the grandparent passes away and the kid has not even started college yet?

      Question: If a grandparent funds a 529 account, are those contributions reviewed in a Medicare 5-year look back? Are those 529 monies considered personal grandparent assets if the grandparent goes into a nursing facility paid for in part or whole by Medicare?
      Would these funds have to be withdrawn from the 529 account and used to pay back Medicare or to pay for nursing home fees?

    Is a sibling owned 529 treated the same as grandparents?
