- 🇻🇳 After a very filling morning eating Com Tam and dropping coffee on the floor with my buddy @Macoi24, we did our best to work up an appetite throughout the day. At around 5pm, we felt hungry enough to go to dinner, and there is a specific food in Saigon that I crave every time I come down here, called bò nướng sốt trứng muối - phô mai. "Bò nướng" is essentially grilled beef, and you get this in most places in Vietnam. The special part about these shops down here in Saigon is the sauces you get with it. You get a salted egg sauce, as well as a delicious cheesy sauce, which give this dish a whole new life. I dare say I enjoy this more than one of my country's most popular dishes - steak. Plus, the incredibly friendly staff make it all the better.

He's very good with people much more than some other youtubers. Ofcourse we all know how sociable Chris is, he always has that bright smile on his face which is very rare!

Bò cỏ thì ở VN nơi nào cũng có nhưng đặc biệt ở Tây Ninh chúng được nuôi bằng ....cỏ Mỹ, 1 loại cỏ mà người Mỹ đã dùng trong chiến tranh VN vì nó dễ cháy. Sau chiến tranh, mấy nơi có cỏ Mỹ đột nhiên ăn nên làm ra vì cỏ Mỹ cung không đủ cầu. Người ta phát hiện loại cỏ này cho con bò nhiều chất dinh dưỡng khi nó cao chưa đến 2 mét (cỏ Mỹ trưởng thành cao đến 4 mét). Thậm chí người ta còn lập hẳn những trang trại chuyên trồng cỏ Mỹ để bán cho người nuôi bò.
Chỉ có ngồi vỉa hè, ăn đồ nướng trong khi trời mưa rào, thỉnh thoảng có cơn gió thoảng qua hất mưa vào ng nó mới tuyệt làm sao phải ko Chris. Không phải khen VN nhưng tôi cũng đi nhiều nước, để cảm thấy mình tự do, sống với chính mình nhất thì chỉ có đặt chân đến VN thôi

@@leopadh I was in Saigon from 1960 to 1980 and the heat was really brutal but now I am in LA and the bill for air conditioning last summer is 1,600 dollar and when winter comes, I am chilling even in the 40 or 50 F when the rest of my new country can be below zero

We eat & enjoy every thing with vegetable
Yes! We eat alot of meals with either :boiled, pickled , or raw fresh veggies. We loved eating fresh lettuce and herbs. We eat a lot of lettuce wrapped or paper wrapped food. Also lot of rice, rice noodles, canh (soup using water from boiled veggies ) and super flavorful broth soups . Braised, boiled and grilled meat/seafood. Not often we eat deep fried stuff. Our desserts? Fresh fruits
Thank you K Tran & N Quoc. If you don't tell me, I have no idea how low in lipids and carbs Vietnamese food and cuisine are. It can take quite a bit of time to buy groceries and prepare all those meals, and…vegetables and fish are not cheap like meat and not convenient to store for a long time. Still, it's worth it for me to think about my eating habit and change it.

Vietnamese use to go to market every day for buying new food (meat, veg, fish, fruits, soya, ...). For me I dont like to buy food in supermarket coz I want fresh meat, fish, veg and fruit. Coz fish, meat is new every day. Veg and fruits aslo come from farm/ garden every morning.
Fresh meat, fish, veg... make dishes great & better coz they still keep protein, vitamin... inside.
And we use to cook at home, so its easy.
I aslo just enjoy fruits juice from fresh fruits, dont like to buy some water in box in shop/ supermarket.
I aslo easy to find fresh dishes on street.
And like you found out: 99% dishes we eat always have veg.

And I live in Phú Quốc island, we have fresh fish every day. And its cheap.
Veg is aslo cheap. Carrot 20-25.000đ for one kg, even in covid time before.

It’s not just how well you speaks Vietnamese Chris, your interaction with local Vietnamese people is very nice. I like the way you always show respect to the elderly, giving compliment to the little girl,…just the small things but it says a lot about who you are. I know I'm going to get a lot of criticisms for this comment but I'm just going to say it anyway.
Don't let any Viet Kieu tell you where to go and what to eat in VN, be it HCMC or Ha Noi or any where else. Watch Chris and Max videos and you'll get a lot more insights into what and where to eat and the unique cultural/social/human perspectives of those locations. Max specializes in food but his videos always add the personal and social aspect to the food. Chris favors the site and cultural and historical aspects which make you appreciate the Vietnamese people more.
What the Viet Kieu tell you are elevated/inflated grandeur of the past that had changed forever at best and warped lies at worst.

I often drive on that street, so I'll give it a try. Given a choice, like most Americans and Europeans, I'd take a thick steak over a thin one, but we pretty much have to get used to it in Vietnam. If anyone has any ideas where to get thick ones now, please do let me know. I'd found some from time to time here in Saigon for reasonable local price (NOT El Gaucho ;-) but they all closed down a few years ago. Hard to find. So yeah, please do help if you know of any! In the meantime, I'll go try Chris' place.
