@@staysci-curious Why can't permanent magnets be used?
Very useful . 100% concept clarity 🎉

in todays world of railways, the this type of electrodynamic braking is not used, instead, the traction motors are converted into generators and the train comes to stop, then either this power is decapitated in brake resistors or sent back to catenary
This would work if the train has multiple electrical motors distributed along the bogies (automotor). If only the locomotive is individual, it would not have enough braking power to stop the train.
I think another thing worth mentioning is that you do not necessarily need a rotating disk mounted on the axle of the train. For example the ICE 3 has electromagnets which are located only a few millimeters above the rails, so that the rails can be used as the stationary part of the eddy current brake. The produced heat is very well distributed thus making it the preferred braking method along with the regenerative braking of the electric motors.
Thanks sir
Due to this vedio I can understand about eddy current for today's examination

eddy brakes system is best of trains not for road vehicles
thanks for this information🙂
They have Telma brakes on heavy cranes trucks in EU mountains..
Why not
@@باکۆمُحَمَد It's wasteful. If you have the electrical generation capacity to make eddy brakes work in a car you're almost certainly using a hybrid or battery-electric drivetrain, in which case it's far better to use regenerative braking rather than waste all that kinetic energy as heat.
Whereas trains have so much kinetic energy that recapturing it all isn't feasible, so you may as well use eddy brakes.
Thank you this helped me alot

You didn't mention how this braking system can use that 'wasted' heat power into something useful, such as energy for battery or supercap charging.
THANKS FOR THE CLOSE LOOK AT ONE OF THESE!!
Hi , I have a question. Due to they eddy current proudced there is high heat generation. Even if the conducting disc slow down, how do we tackle to cool down the entire system. IRL do we have a cooling mechanism
Hi Yash, they don't have exclusive cooling system. Mostly they are air cooled as brakes are not going to be used continuously for long durations, only when needed they will be used for short duration.
Thanks for such a good video. I have subscribed you after watching this.

George Westinghouse invented air brakes 1800s friction safety first.
This would replace such no wearing parts.
Except if current is lost no brakes where as on air brakes if air is lost brakes come on automatically.
not many trains use this brake type
But how eddy currents play role in motors??
I'M from Pakistan and believe me your method of teaching is exceptional ❤

How hot do the disc get with the Eddy Current?
Hi, the disc does get hotter, when brakes are applied. But it will be for a short duration and the temperature will not be high enough to cause any damage to the disc. Thanks for your comment.
Electricity from braking
Currection :
Relatiive motion of magnetic field produces electric field and E produces induced emf and then current.
Hi Harshit. Yeah, it is true that for current, EMF should be induced. But it was not exclusively mentioned in the video, as we were trying to understand the process. Thanks for your comments.
