A TRIP TO AUSCHWITZ BIRKENAU | AUSCHWITZ CONCENTRATION CAMP PART 2 BIRKENAU | HOLOCAUST HISTORY

Join me in this 2 part video series where I visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. In this second part of the series, I am at Auschwitz 2 also known as Birkenau. A former army barracks was turned into a Concentration Camp in 1940 (Auschwitz 1) and Birkenau was built later on with the first gas chamber in operation in 1942. Much of the camp remains from that time and is the most well known site linked to the ‘Final Solution’ and is often depicted in films and documentaries. The crimes committed here were horrific and on a scale unimaginable and as I walk around the camp, the displays show the history of what happened here. Birkenau is a much bigger site than Auschwitz 1 and is out in the open so it it is open to the elements and you get more of a sense of how the prisoners suffered here. Some of the camp was destroyed at the end of World War 2 but there is also much that remains and has to be seen so that you can gauge the true scale of what happened here.
