I think you got this song from the TH-cam recording, "Dennis De Souza Trio, The Goretti Group - Of My Hands", which has "gave" instead of "give" in the third line of the chorus both times: "I gave to you as you gave to me," not "I give to you as you gave to me." That rather puts the whole lyric in a different light. But God is not something far, far away: I am in your heart and on your lips, as Deuteronomy says for God's word. We give of the fullness of our hearts, of what we are. If God has treated us harshly, we treat others harshly. Who are we to judge? The point is that God has always, from Day One, been our best idea of human nature (Deuteronomy being a book of the Torah, composed during the Babylonian Captivity--whatever that actually was--around 500 BC). God calls to Adam but Adam is naked and ashamed. The point, then, is not to have two Gods, one that I receive and the other that I give.
