I was born and reared in 26 Cape Street as was my Mum Theresa, R.I.P. Unfortunately my family are all passed on my Mum, my Big Bro Paul, R.I.P. and wee sis Rosie, R.I.P. all gone to Heaven. My wife Patricia (nee Kelly) was murdered by the British Army in 1972, shot 6 times in the back with no warning outside our house in Frere Street, I was with her and was also shot in the back and seriously wounded and left with a permanent disability. That was a very sad time but I had many happy times in Cape Street with our wonderful neighbours whom I miss to this day, it was a fantastic street with brilliant neighbours all good decent hard working people, yeah we had our ups and downs, sometimes arguments but all were settled pretty quick and we got on with living beside each other, it definitely was a great community along with our neighbours in the surrounding streets and when troubled times came in August 1969 we all came together and faces those troubles as neighbours and friends. Thanks for posting the video as it brought back great memories. God Bless.

Hi, I am watching this video with my Mother Joan Buckley, nee Murray, and she recognises both her sister Breige and brother Francis in the film, we are both shedding a tear as she remembers all her old neighbours and friends. Thanks for this very special piece of our history

My lovely granny mcburney is standing in the door of 22 cape street - I am the son of peggy mcburney who married John Fitzpatrick of Newry in 1960 - I was born in 1961 and spent many's a happy day playing on Cape Street with the OHara's running in and oot of Sadie Cullen's and getting chased by the Mcalindens in fun - playing soccer round the corner at the school and spending my thruppence in the best cornor shop in the world - to see my granny again has brought great joy

    Hi Rosealeen,
Nice to hear from you! My parents took this video on a visit to Belfast in 1959. My mother Marie and your father are first cousin. They are walking arm in arm in the video. That makes us second cousins! We are sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I am working on a family tree and would love any information you may be able to provide about your family, siblings etc. Please pass this video to any relatives you can think of.
    Thanks again and take care,
    Linda
