Help me out here, what is a polymer plate? I must be missing out. My craft knowledge is way behind. I’m looking to make my own leather embossing and debossing plates, or small rounds with designs to put through my original sizzix, or use with a C-clamp press set up. I’m tired of not finding stamps in the sizes and designs I want. I do not have a 3d printer, so I was thinking of tooling what I want into polymer clay and use that to emboss leather. There also, epoxy resins, and other Smooth-on resins which get very pricy fast. Thanks!
Hi there! Polymer plates are exposed to UV light with a printed transparency on top. The part that is covered by black ink (you could draw in sharpie too if you can draw the design that you want) will not be exposed and so will not harden. The part that is covered by clear transparency is exposed to the UV light and will wash out when finished. So all that to say that you need a bunch of stuff to go this route. In my mind the easiest way to start out is either use a pre-made embossing folder (see first video in this series/playlist,), or polymer clay which requires the clay and an over, or a pre-made brass, copper or steel plate (you can etch your own but that requires more equipment too). I have smatterings of ways you can combine things throughout my channel (and more coming 🙂) so for instance if you have cutouts you can combine those with polymer clay to create your own "plates". Hope this helps!! Sorry for the late reply 😉. Have a great day!
