      I think the melting flesh scene should have stayed in the Black Cauldron. As a kid having at least one somewhat traumatizing scene in a movie made the whole story more real then when everything was just supersafe.
      Most other mentioned scenes, though, sounded way over the top and were rightfully cut.

    at 5:24 it's stated by Rhett Reese "he is standing in the German Nursery". Well it's a good damn thing you didn't have Deadpool kill that baby. That wouldn't have been the right baby. Hitler would have been in an Austrian nursery.

  • @dpenlow

    The way they describe the Deadpool bar scene without giving any actual context is like Dwight Schrute telling The Aristocrats joke:

    The Road (2009) originally had a scene that was also in the book where father and son reach an abandoned campsite and find a human infant being roasted on a spit over a fire. It was cut out entirely by the director because it was too much. Even the author of the novel Cormac McCarthy was fine with it being cut out.

      It was quite clear that he was hanged by the vine but it wasn't a glorified moment by any means. Tarzan and the viewer (myself at least) felt regret at that outcome. A lot of deaths happened in that film though. It was a very well done animation I think and Im glad they didnt cut corners or ovesimplify

      @enigmanegus2845 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yea I'm against Disney cutting those scenes and I'm black. It would've been better to have a conversation about the history around those depictions instead of pretending it never happened. Pretending it never happened won't stop racism

    • @erikthompson619
      @erikthompson619 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very common misconception there. This is not a matter of pretending something never existed. It's about trying to keep something relevant for audiences of today almost a century after its creation. (The fact that old Disney movies are outdated conservative hogwash in themselves is another story.) Nothing stays current forever. And a little adjustment goes a long way. I know, I work as a book translator and just finished a new version of "Hound of the Baskervilles". Therein lies a passage where Sherlock Holmes asks a physician if he can tell apart the skulls of "a Negro and an Eskimo". Obviously, in my translation I adjusted this to be the counterparts of "an African and an Inuit" instead. No biggie. Conan Doyle didn't mean to be offensive in 1901, so I updated his wording to something that wouldn't be offensive over a century later. I'm pretty sure he'd give a thumbs up had he been here.

    • @Microtherion

      'Lair of the White Worm'. It's not *that* old really - 1988, so more recent than 'Gremlins'. Odder than it is old! Worth watching just for Amanda Donohoe... (Dir. Ken Russell, therefore kind of 'serious cinema', notwithstanding bonkers plot-line). I was still in my early teens so, to me, it was like 'woah, is this allowed?' It'd be considered more like 'mildly titillating' today, I guess. :)

He changed the scene with the "less is more" mentality and went with the camera panning away. The reaction of people was way different. The audiences responded with a level of discomfort he wanted to achieve with the scene.

    The censorship of old cultural norms is dangerous. Put a warning on Song of the South. Fantasia as well. It's art. Obviously, art that you don't agree with. But not all art should be happy and fun or in these cases, stay that way. We cannot cleanse our past out of existence. The injustices of history is a bottomless pit, as has been said. We should not spend the rest of our lives trying to make up for every bad thing that has happened.

That's not growth, that's damage limitations.

    If the director or someone like that involved, cut scenes and saying that this is wrong in someway i am okay with it but to have this mpaa say no you have to cut out this and this because we say so, or even alter movies that have already been shown then that for me is censoring and is it stupid in my opinion. I am okay with there adding a text or someone telling the viewer that this was made at a certain time in history and such things but to cut scenes out after people have already watched it because the mpaa somehow knows better is so stupid and wrong that.. just wow.

      Minstrel show type depictions often are (deceptively) happy. But that's not the point. The point of the depictions was to show who was subservient and who was the master at the top of the pyramid, stereotypes born out of the Jim Crow era which fly against modern sensiblities today. Can't blame Disney for coming to their senses and cutting out the offensively outdated material.
