- When talking about the history of lowriders, there are so many names who could be mentioned. So many people who, over the years, have contributed to the art and history of lowriding culture. But Sonny Madrid and Lowrider Magazine were the first to recognize that lowriding wasn't just a bunch of people driving customized cars. It was an actual community that should be written about, shared and celebrated.

I know the lady with the New Image coat from Soledad Ca, that is my friends aunt that was the 1st issue of Lowrider Magazine ☝🏽❤️🙏🏽
Sonny Madrid will always be known as the Godfather of LOW RIDER Magazine & also for putting the low rider lifestyle on the map, also let’s not forget but give praise to Larry “El Larry” Gonzalez & Alberto Lopez for continuing the legacy of LRM from 1987 to 1997. Much respect to Sonny, El Larry, Alberto Lopez, the artist Mike Pickel & all the photographers thru out the years, thank you all for creating those memories……
We need to go back to our Lowrider roots and remember that we can from simple beginnings , It must be hard for our young kids . You don't need 100k to build a Lowrider , lowriding comes from the heart not the pocket.
There needs to be a color of paint named sunny Madrid ❤❤❤❤❤
RIP Sunny Madrid used to live in Visalia..i met him at my print shop..he would do an Aztec calendar..i did all the work..he also used to print posters for lowrider shows.. became a great friend.. such a kind giving man.. and loved to party and so did i..good times.. father figure to me..

Member on those Sunday night n cruising Whitter Blvd. Dam those we're the dayz. From 1978 to 1989 that was the place to meet up n check out all the firme rides. Low n side, miss those dayz🙌
Oops meant Low n Slow😬
Mad respect!!!
Those were the days when we would listen to XPRS in the evening and listen to Bill Bird And Memo(aye que fine....) . Dedications from all the homies. Man I miss those days 😢. We all used to dress nice too. Guy's had their hair combed back and the girls had long hair black or dark red. Not many shaved heads on the guys.😊
That rite rite puro San Jo and That Capital park sign says it all
Grew up in Baltimore and me and my buddies used to love reading Lowrider magazines in the 90s even though we didn't have a Lowrider scene here. Me and my homeboy were actually going to build a lowrider bike but we only got as far as a blueprint on paper and some bike parts 😂
It's never too late bro , live your dreams 😎👊🏼
Like the homie said, its never too late to live your dreams and even pass it down.
I remember back in the 80's when i was a kid my uncle Carlos use to hang up the flyers for the car shows and he mentioned he knew and worked for Sonny Madrid. I use to help my uncle hang up the posters late at night and attended one of the shows and seen what i believed was Sonny's delivery chevy and also Joe Rays "Hollywood" and "Dressed to Kill". What an experience.
RIP Sonny Madrid and Carlos Sanchez 🙏.

This is Chicano power. Ranflas, rucas and rolas are my style, y nadie me lo va a quitar. : )

What about the teen angel magazine what was the purpose of that magazine? All I remember was gangster girls photos and dedications it would be cool if you did a video on the teen angel magazine.
Mike Pickel was and is the man behind the arte in lowrider magazine and don't you forget it
