    This would be 1000 times easier if you just clicked record and had the shutter near 1/4

    • @JustinOdisho
      @JustinOdisho  4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      You could surely do it other ways, this was most intuitive in my mind. Have you tried that method? I assume you’d have to go in and also adjust the speed / frame rate of the video you get

    • @eyeCANI
      @eyeCANI 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Justin Odisho ohh okay, and I’m assuming it depends on the camera , I have the Sony a7iii and it’s really easy to use but it may not be possible on all cameras . And I’ve used it on dozens on projects, you just gotta change the speed and the color a bit more, Becuase it seems to be a bit lighter than the other footage.

      Canon m5 has this feature in movie mode, also, as I remember (no longer have the camera). It seems to stack the exposures - making magic happen in what doesn't seem like a possible scenario (shutter speed less than framerate). Tried it on GH5 (VFR 2fps @ 1/2 second exposure) but it doesn't seem to have the exact same effect as Sony and Canon (m5)

    The technical name of this effect in filmmaking is called "Step Printing" and the right way to achieve this is by shooting in low frame rates like 8 frames or 12 frames.

    You could also go into Various Frame Rate mode in a camera that supports it and change your frame rate to 12fps or lower, then extend frames in post. That's how Wong Kar-Wai and Christopher Doyle did it in the 90s.

      Thanks for the feedback. When teaching to a broad audience where you don’t know what level everyone is at I like to explain the minimum required info I feel like is needed for a complete walkthrough. In this case this was what I came out with and I feel it’s pretty straightforward. Sure I could just breeze through a lot of stuff but then people get confused and you lose something in the other direction. I continue to try to improve teaching.
