I'm on my 3rd Doberman and couldn't imagine life without one! ♥️
They certainly are a special kind of dog!!
I've heard they will attack my kids. I had 3 and they all were very gentle.
Thank you for giving us your first-hand account of these dogs and testimony of their gentle character!
I have a Doberman x German Shepard and I he’s going to be 8yo this year and my son will be 5 this year and my dog rather be away from my son but now he’s grown to slowly feel less nervous while my son is around and he’s been perfect around my son.
Where are they at now?
I love Dobermans -- i will never get another dog breed other than a Doberman.
They are great! So glad you agree and have experienced this!
Well I got too old to cope with an energetic young large dog so I got greyhounds instead!
Did you know that our beloved Dobes have Greyhound in them!. That is where their sensitivity comes from
We wanted nothing but a doby! And i am so glad we did. He is amazing, fast learner, he loves to please and work. He adores being with us, always wanting cuddles. BUT he is a handful puppy of 6 months. Strong minded, strong physical, a lot of energy, teething was very hard, damn. Digging, in the garden, we have holes everywhere. They do need a lot of mental stimulation. If you can do that and exercise them enough, they are AMAZING. So sweet and gentle. Also, protective, guarding, which i love because i feel safe.
Absolutely! They come with their own set of challenges, but training them properly is a great reward! If you ever need any help with any of the trouble areas you mentioned, please feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or Instagram messages!
Out Dobbie will be 13 in March, he was diagnosed with DCM in October 2022. It is definitely something to be aware of because meds are expensive, veterinary cardiologists are as well. But all of the joy and happiness he has brought to our family has been worth every penny.
I lost mine to DCM he was only 2 and a half idk if I’ll ever get one again do to this
If his genetics are that good (being 13) you may want to have a breeder look at him.
@Cuttingtorch well he has heart disease, is neutered and is now 13 so I don't think a breader would be interested.
we have had 7 dobermans, and the only heartache is when they pass, Dobie for ever
So true. It hurts because we loved hard, and there is no shame in that.
I had an amazing Dobie in my life since I was 22. My kids grew up with Dobies. We always had a house and land for them. You have to train them and watch them like any dog. I love dobies. We have an old girl now and she is the best. ❤
She sounds like an absolute sweetheart! They are the best dogs to go through life with!
Prongs, e-collars, and other similar tools probably have just as much stigma around them as the Doberman breed itself does and equally unfairly. There are a lot of great trainers who know how to use them correctly and effectively (and how not to use them). Shield K9 is my personal favorite, and Ivan Balabanov (2 time world champion, 16 time national champion IGP/Schutzund trainer), Robert Cabral, and Tom Davis/Upstate Canine Academy are all good if anyone's looking for recommendations on people who do it correctly. And all of them are available on youtube.
First time Dog Owner Here, First Time Doberman Owner as well. With that said, here is some reasons you may NOT want a Doberman. 1. As mentioned many times TRAINING is key. Problem is, to obtain that training professionally (in person not TH-cam) the costs can add up quickly. A 6 week basic training for my Dog cost $700 and it goes up from there. 2. If you don't train the Doberman, this dog can run you freaking ragged. They are VERY dominant and can break your will to want to keep the dog, especially in the first year as a puppy. 3. The Home Owners Insurance issue. The Creator here brushes off the fact that some Insurance companies WILL NOT insure your home if you own a Doberman. This often will lead you to find a company that WILL take you but the costs can be substantially more. Here where I live? Our Home Owners Policy went up almost 25%. 4. CLINGY. This can be taken as a "Good" and a "bad" I am mentioning it as a bad, because if you are the type of person that is going to come home from work, and put your dog outside for an hour so you can shower and unwind from work? This ISN'T"T the dog for you. If you leave this dog alone for too long your yard will be torn up or your home. This can get expensive to repair/replace. 5. DCM. This can be a huge problem if you paid BIG money for your Dobie. If you were given one, or something like that? Not a big deal, but if you paid $1500? $2500 for your "AKC" Dog? Then it died 2 yrs later? Yeah that could be seen as a big waste of time, money and heartache. 6. Food Costs. These dogs can EAT. We generally stick to using a good quality kibble for cost reasons, but add in the treats, snacks and toys? You could EASILY spend hundreds of dollars a month just on food. We average about $150 a month. 7. Socialization. If you don't socialize these dogs, they can be very difficult to control around other dogs. Not a huge issue while young, but if you are a smaller person and you have a strong 75-100 lbs Dobie pulling you on a walk chasing another dog? Yeah no fun. My Daughter gave me my Female Doberman. My Daughter knew I always wanted one, but at the same time I didn't actually tell her I wanted one RIGHT NOW. That caught me off guard and I was not prepared mentally for taking on a dog. A Dog no matter the breed is like having a kid around the house. They get into everything, and can be ALLOT of work. I do believe once the dog gets of age, and stays healthy?? Then you will have one of the best dogs a Human could possibly have. All I can say? I feel for the person who ever tries to break into our home while our Dobie is on "Duty". You will be in a world of hurt. That's all I have to say. haha
Current myths here (in brazil) when dobermans were in their heyday. That they had a too small skull, therefore contributing to constant headaches that would madden him/her.
I am in USA and I have heard that as well, years ago. This may be of interest.... I had to have a weimaraner euthanized because he went crazy. The veterinarian said it was a condition where his brain was larger or cranial cavity was too small. He took Venlafaxine (Effexor) which helped tremendously. However, after about a year it lost it's effectiveness. Out of nowhere he would go after my wife, literally trying to attack her. She would shut herself in a room and about 5 minutes later come out and he would be so happy to see her. He would become terrified for no apparent reason and hurt himself trying to get under furniture. The veterinarian recommended we euthanize him because treatment wasn't working and he was miserable. That was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. He was a great dog and family member. Now I have two Dobermans (all around great dogs!!), I think they are a lot like the Weimaraners I had except maybe a little better behaved. Maybe, maybe not..... I love all animals so tend to see only the good in them. P.S. that is a beautiful dog on your pic.
Dobermans are my favorite breed of dog, they're just so cute. Never had one, but I still love them.
They are great to imagine owning and pleasing to the eye! Thanks for being a Dobie fan!
Same here. They defo are the best 💖
I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old. I also have a 13 week old doberman puppy. She is truly a blessing. She loves my kids. She loves our family.
Such a great testimony to the breed! Thank you for sharing what your life is like with a Doberman and little kids!
Please stop letting kids be around dogs this size
We had a Female Doberman that grew up with our two sons. Never a problem. She protected them too. She was family just like our sons. And now my youngest son and his future wife have a two year Doberman and they are planning on a baby next year. Their Doberman will protect the baby too and I’ll be there to help out.
It is so cool to see your children get the same breed of dog that you had with them when they were children!
A woman once told me I had to get rid of my Doberman before he turned 2-years old because "Their brains keep growing but their skull don't which makes them go crazy and attack people." I pointed to my dog and said, "He's four." She looked at me dumbfounded and panicked. Then I said "That's a myth. He's never attacked me" and walked away.
we have 2 Dobermans and they are my everything . My dad have birds in the back yard he needed to put fences around it for them not to jump on , they are so full of energy all of the time they are like naughty kids but we will never get rid of them they are our babies
They certainly do make our lives brighter! Thanks for sharing part of your story with us!
“I once saw The Hounds of Baskervilles” was a reason given to me one time 😂. I’ve seen Cujo and have zero problems being around St Bernard’s. Our doberman is absolutely amazing. We’ve had labs, pits, spaniels, terriers and hands down we will now only have Dobermans. I personally love how Velcro my girl is and just how ridiculously goofy she is! And not to mention super intelligent-easiest dog I’ve ever trained.
Another reason why Doberman attack there owner is lack of connection, they can be a one person dog and if your significant other is not a dog person can cause problems. A friend has a Doberman and the dog will not listen to his wife. She calls the dog stupid, at the same time the dog acts like she is not there completely ignores her. Abuse is another reason for all dogs, they will take so much until the snap. Stop blaming dogs for peoples bad behavior.
Yes absolutely right they sometimes pick there fav of the family mine would ignore my son but is protective of him but me and my dobie have more of a connection that’s y my son feeds him now and do some obedience with him so he can respect him more
Yes, a big factor (for any breed) is how you treat the dog. Be kind!
We did Ebark on our Dobie mix and it came up that she has 1 marker for dcm1 but she's 11yrs and has been healthy, hopefully she will stay that way.
Number one reason for me would health concerns my last 2 Dobermans died from DCM 10 years old and 5 years old. Number 2 would be responsibility you have protect your dog from nasty people, there dogs and children. I had people yell at me to keep my dog under control with my dog on a leash and there kid running at me with a stick, or there dog charging me. It will always be the Dobermans fault. The most aggressive dog in my area is a lab and a poodle. Number 3 would the connection a Doberman makes is not like any other dog they make it clear everyday they are there for you no matter what. When they die it is such a hole gone in your life.
Great points, Christopher! You've given that a lot of thought and each point certainly has merit. Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment!
The only reason I dont want another dobe is because of the DCM, my pup died few years ago from this and I dont know if I can go through this again. Still, maybe I will get another one in the future again.
DCM is a very devastating disease. So sorry to hear it took your beloved companion. Hopefully more research (like what the Doberman Diversity Project is doing) can be done to improve the longevity of the breed!
I just love this breed, and I have never believed all the crazy things that are said about them. Very good video. Thank you for your work
We adopted our first dobie 2 years ago and he was 3. It has been so amazing we adopted a 3 year old dobie playmate and they are the best together
Hey! I just wanted to say I love your videos and that the Doberman is my dream dog and I’ve been wanting to get one for a long time but I’m in medical school right now so I don’t think I have the time for a dog right now. However, I would love to get a dog ( specifically a Doberman) when I do graduate. I just wanted your thoughts on whether I should or shouldn’t get one considering I will probably be working long hours as a doctor.
Hi again. My female doberman in now 19 months old and has for the very first time shown serious distress when our electric thunderstorms start. recently during fireworks around our neighbourhood it had no effect on her where she rather chose to continue sleeping in our bedroom during the fireworks going off. Whist I know there could be many reasons for her sudden change, I was hoping there is some common reasons and what could I do to help her overcome her newfound fears. In the meantime I have taken to play music to help drown out the thunderstorm but would really like to find a way to resolve the issue so that it becomes a non event should we not be at home during a thunder storm. Would appreciate the help and advice.
I had a GSD for 18: years, great mileage and he was an amazing highly intelligent dog who I still miss to this day , that’s why the idea of adopting a DP and only having them for 9 years is off putting when my Shepherd lasted double that ..
Getting our first Doberman as a rescue next week. I hardly ever see them on petfinder, so i was pretty stoked. Just hope my pitbull mix is gentle with her. Shes a real badass.
I love Dobies. Don't wanna have one though because neither do I have enough time nor enough $$. But they are my favourite dog breed 💖
I friggin love my Doberman so much that it blows my mind! Lily is an awesome dog and I wouldn't have any other Breed from now on after not having one for decades!! I'm 60 and a tiny American Italian woman and I don't feel like I'm too small for my Lily, in fact, all the more reason to have her first for love and companionship but definitely for protection too! I feel more safe since she's been with me (5 months now and she'll be 2 years old on July 8th, 2024). She is by my side literally constantly and I love that!! She's just as smart as a Doberman should be and she's also a comedian and cracks me up daily! She likes to put her toys (any of them) in her food Bowl while she eats and then she'll grab it after she eats and plays with it. She has liked every single toy I've gotten her and keeps herself entertained while being next to me of course. I know that all Doberman owners will say the same, but this breed is miles above ANY dog breed alive today! There really isn't another Breed I love more. Thank you for your channel, love it!! 💜❤❌⭕
I have my first Doberman for 2 years now and she is the best!!
Yes they need direction, training, routine and love. And a sense of humor as they are goofy and constantly thinking how to figure things out. As long as you are the leader they need they are the most lovable dog you could want.
I would love to have one, but the insurance doesn't cover and many places don't accept them :/
All I can say about this majestic breed is Beautiful inside out, Sweet, Gentle , Loyal and Smart!!!
Dobermans are my top favorite. Used to hav 1 in my teens & became a jogger & outdoor lad bcos of him. I'm 59 today & can only look fondly at this breed. Bcos they need lots of running, training & wide space, which i dont now. Sadly.
My Doberman has to be where I am. Any chair, any couch, any bed, and any room. He loves to run the fences when neighbor dogs are out. Even when it's muddy and he won't stop when I try to stop him. When I got him he was the only dog the adoption agency gave me a return reply to. Now I know why. I should have known when I went to look at him the Foster also had a Doberman. I had to add 2' extensions to the top of all the fencing in my yard. He barks at everything even birds, planes and the moon. Barks at any living thing that walks by our house.
Check out McCann video and instructor Carol on barking dogs. Very informative as to what type of barker you have. Hope that helps.
Wow! He must be a good jumper. If you'd like to train out the barking, here is an article that can help with that: www.dobermanplanet.com/how-to-train-a-doberman/#Barking. And yes, velcro dogs for sure!! Thank you for rescuing him!
Because of the liability issue our insurance guy made us back off for thirty years until a year and a half ago. I just didn’t want to miss out any more and got a first time female pup. My dad died seven years before and would’ve loved to have had another but didn’t get a chance to own another. I know he is giddy as all that a dobey is around today! Thank God I’ve got a new insurance man so now it’s the best of both worlds!
Erie insurance is one of the few companies that will insure Dobes. It may also help to get a canine good citizen and a therapy dog title too. Hope that helps.
Thank you for sharing this with us, Rick! Insurance is certainly an important factor to consider when bringing home a Doberman. Your dad would be proud!
Had Dobermans for 40 years, I’m on number 8. Sometimes had other dogs too, they all got along. But Dobermans are my loves. They want nothing more than to be with their people. Hope to always have one.
I don't want to live without a Doberman! Make that 2!!
Kind of like potato chips - can't have just one.
Haha, love it, Starla!
I to am on my 3rd doberman. It was my second girl that came down with dcm. She was 12 years old when she died a happy dog. I live in the country and all my dobes have a job of protecting the place from raccoons, coyotes, and anything else the comes on the place. I have loved every one.
I'm a cat person, the rest of the family wanted a dog, so when we moved to the countryside with some land I ran out of excuses. A neighbor had a Doberman and I fell in love with the breed. As our first dog we got ourselves an 8-week-old European Doberman, who's now 19 months and 90+ pounds. We absolutely LOVE him! Yes, he's a handful, a mix of a toddler and a teenager (we have two human teenagers), but we have a forest where we go for long walks and he can run off-leash fetching sticks (and yes sometimes chasing deer and coyotes, which isn't intentional). We had a professional trainer when he was younger, to both train Leo and us, and plenty of socializing with other humans and dogs, including dog parks and Home Depot. We go for a walk with his girlfriend Penny almost every day (she's 12+y so sometimes she's too tired) and he brings out the puppy play in her (friends' dog). I can't recommend the breed enough, but it takes effort to get a well-adjusted dog, it's not a toy breed. He's great with other dogs (just went to the dog park yesterday, playing off-leash with other boy dogs, rowdy, but having a blast) and very gently with young kids, gave wet kisses to some 3-yo girls at an eatery the other day.
I'm suprised someone didn't mention the over all cost. From yearly vet appointments, heart monitors, health test, decently healthy food etc.
They are such sweethearts that have lots of energy and require a good bout of exercise everyday they are velcro dogs and i love them
I was walking my friend's doberman and before I knew it my face was on the pavement. She had taken off after something when I zoned out for just a second. Fractured my arm. I RESPECT the power of this dog.
I had a. Doberman rescue,,105.lb. Euro male who had limited lease training. With a prong collar ,he leaned , and I learned how to enjoy our walks. He recently died, DMC. He was a GREAT dog!
So glad you guys had a lovely life together and our condolences for losing him to DCM. They are our best friends!
Hi! I was wondering where and who did you get Arlo from?!
My reason for not EVER wanting to get a Doberman is because when I was little I had a paper route, one if my customers had a Doberman. The owners hadn't contr of their dog, and I was attacked numerous times by it.
Three months ago I took in a Doberman that had fear Aggression really bad. I was told he was around a year old. I was asked if I could work with him. After I agreed to work with him, they decided they didn't want him. You couldn't raise your vouce, pi k up a broom, mop, shovel, or rake... anything that seemed like a "stick" or he would crouch fown and growl, sometimes lunging.
Though I REALLY didn't EVER want to own a Doberman, I'm not one to give up on a critter.
I've had him about 3 months now. He had hadZERO training. The only thing he seemed to not how to do, was jump in the vehicle, jump on the furniture, and was for the most part house broken... though he did regress for a time.
I've spent a LOT of time with him, and working with him. On his last vet visit, the vet remarked about what a changed dog he had become. That
his first visit he had been rather "sketchy & psycho". He also had a fear of men, which didn't help any. He'd also been sick (coughing, big green slimey boogers... nasty), so I had to also teach him to take medicine. He HATED, his muzzle grabbed.
I taught him the "AHH" Command so he'll willing let me open his mouth and let me put pills at the back of his tongue or throat.... followed up by a spoonful of peanut butter. 😁
By being consistent with him, he's turned from a fearful aggressive dog, to a Velcro Dog.
I've been taking him out with me on hay runs and when I go to Tractor Supply. Lately I've gotten comments about how well behaved and relaxed he is.
He really DOES take his cues off my body language.
He is ALWAYS very, very alert and aware of what is going on, but if my body language is relaxed... he's relaxed.
I also don't let people just walk up and start petting him.
He has to to be in the sit position next to me to receive pets.
I've had employees walk up and just want to hand him treats. Once again I make him sit, before he is allowed to receive a treat. He generally won't take treatsfrom other people, and they have to hand me the treats, before he will take them... which honestly I much prefer.
One reason is the damn whistling 😂 that whistling drives me crazy!!
First time Doberman owner. I love mine he's loyal, smart and very very clingy lol. Mine has adjusted to my energy level.
I’m on my second boy, Rudy, 3yo adopted European, my first, Arlo, went away with my ex, I swear by Doberman, yes they’re not for your average dog owner, but if you’re a highly organized person with discipline and good time management skills, you’ll adore the breed.
I’ve got so many stories on how smart Rudy and Arlo are, they truly observe and think things through, honest to God, they’ve got a sense of humour and do joke around, I can’t think of any reason why not to have this wonderful breed! ❤❤
Very highly strung, very high maintenance, always switched on definitely not chilled but very athletic loving and one of the most loving breeds.
Have had 2 Dobies. Our first one died young-ish (7 years old), when we lost our second as a puppy our family decided to move away from the breed due to their health issues.
Understandable. I hope in the future we can do more to help prevent issues like DCM. I also love English Bulldogs so much, but definitely another breed that has a myriad of health problems
It is heartbreaking to lose a companion so young! Hopefully improvements can be made for the future of the breed to increase their longevity.
I want one!!!!!❤
You won't regret it!
What age , do you recommend to start training your Doberman ? Do you have a video on the different stages of what to do and when to do them ?
Thank you John I am a big fan ! :)
Training should start the first day you bring your new puppy home, but you will need to wait until he,/she has had all their shots before enrolling in any public puppy training classes. (There is a wealth of info in John's videos and website on training puppies!)
@@sheilahbuettner8452 thank you, I am on list for a puppy but not till Fall so I am trying to educate myself as much as possible.
@@bisou7856 You are getting ready to meet the dog that will spoil you for all other dog breeds in the future! You are in for a wild and crazy but wonderful ride. Congratulations on getting an early start to your planning. You have plenty of time to puppy proof your home and get ready for your new arrival. Great question! Yes, here is our article on training and when to start each task/command: www.dobermanplanet.com/how-to-train-a-doberman/. Thanks so much for your support!!
Ive been told not to get one because i live in apartment, they are way to much work, they require lots of training, they aren't good with cats or children. 😢 i am committed to make it work, to make sure my future doberman is healthy, socialized properly, and getting the proper training and mental stimulation. I will be going thru a reputable breeder, I have been doing the research for now 2 yrs and I am positive I can do it and I truly believe this breed fits my lifestyle
Even though my dog is 50% Treeing Walker coonhound 50% Dobie mix, she looks and acts just like a Doberman (except for her hound instincts when it comes to squirrels, possums, and birds). She is the best dog I've ever had. When she's in the dog park around other Dobies she acts exactly like them.
I heard there not good with kids and my 2 year old dobie is very protective with my son but also he was dominant with him and that scared me a bit but we showed him the pecking order also he’s very jealous when my son plays with other kids but I will never get another breed again totally In love with them❤ 3:48
Very down to earth guy
Enjoy his information
09:55 where can I acquire this test from ? Or can you recommend one the same as this
For sure! In the 2nd paragraph of this article, you'll see the embedded link for the Embark DNA test: www.dobermanplanet.com/dna-health-testing/
@@DobermanPlanet thanks for this
Your dog, any breed, is a mirror of you!
Dobermans are not for everyone because they are fast and they could easily knock a person down. They have a lot of speed and endurance.
The prong collar and the e collar are the most effective tools to dog training in the dog training world. The subject should not be avoided. As long as they are used correctly, they are the key to respecting the leash, reducing reactivity, and flawless recalls. But again, they have to be used properly. People should have a trainer that know how to use both tools show them how to use them, or literally even TH-cam how to use them correctly.
Very controversial subject💯 I just personally wouldn't want to use them
I was very skeptical if I should use one or not at the beginning but if u have a euro dobie u must it’s the best thing I did mine was stubborn dominant and would walk all over u if u let him u don’t necessarily need to use the shock I use vibrate only and has worked wonders now he’s off leash at the park at times
@@krisfinley6706 I'd rather give my dog a little discomfort on the neck than get hit by a car. The e-collar has a far more merciful and less costly option.

Had two❤❤❤ Love my Doberlybarksalot ❤❤❤
For me personally, it comes down to how I've seen my wife be with our pets. An intelligent dog like a Doberman will figure out real quickly that they can get away with anything when I'm gone. At least with our 15lb Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix she can pick the dog up and move it back in. If I could get her to be more firm and consistent then I'd love to raise a Dobie. I watch these vids and dream lol.
Hahaha love it, Jed! Doesn't hurt to dream. But yes, you know they need firm training and to hear a firm "No" in their day-to-day life.
Greatest dog's on the planet !!! Super smart breed
I have a steet dog who loves to out smart me every day and with cuteness get his way all the time. Its a dog thing not a breed thing as people would like to believe.
Unfortunately a lot of us had run ins as kids that left a bad memory. I’m surprised they are banned more than pits?
I worry about short lifespans. If they were 12-14 years, then I would be all over it. I am a former GSD owner. The health issues are scary.
We have two girls, age six and three. They poops a lot!!!😂🤣
I swear we had a video like this already
Silly thing I heard was they attack their owners! I had 4 on my bed at night fir years with no problem but what do I know?
My only concern would be health... I have read a lot about various issues with the gene pool and the future demographic/genetic projections. I love them and would love one!!
Amen to that!
I had a mini an he was great
I'd love to have a Doberman. However, I do neither have the time nor the space to make him happy as I live in a big city and work a lot. Moreover, I am afraid of losing such a loved companion due to bloat.
Love my dobi Kobi
Thanks so much for leaving this comment, Tiffany! Give Kobi a treat and pets from us!
I have never wanted any other breed than a dobe, now I have one! With the right breeding, these dogs are the best! Just make sure your not buying from a back yard breeder, that is half the battle right there.
I have 5 Pitbulls and 3 chihuahuas and all them are great dogs especially with my grandkids
I just lost mine girl girl at 10 and 1/2 years The reason was I'm not sure she just couldn't get up. I miss mine but I got an equally smart brown lab mix
Wha COI should i try to stay under. Cheers
We had a rescue doberman who was a nightmare of health issues. This breed has been ruined by unscrupulous breeders. Such a pity because dobermans are amazing.
Oh so sad! I'm so sorry to hear that you (and the Doberman) went through this experience.
@@DobermanPlanet I would really love it if you would do a video on rescue dobermans. We are in the process of rescuing one now (our 2nd meet and greet is upcoming, pending our current dog's ability to accept another dog). This dog is currently being fostered but was found as a stray, literally just skin and bones, about fifty pounds underweight! But a sweet dog! So how can we tell if he will be okay behaviorally?
@@burkabrigade Thank you for rescuing him/her! I see you have some worries and I totally feel you. I don’t know how old is your rescue dobie but our family has gone through a similar situation lately and I agree that more videos about this topic would be great. We adopted ( rescued ) our Dobie a month ago. He is 11 months old now. We had to drive there and get him the first time we met him (literally 5 minutes after we met we had to take him and leave). As he is my first dog I was very nervous about him bonding with me and my partner, about him being aggressive, misbehaving, etc. Unfortunately when meeting him I saw he was severely underweight (55lbs) and frightened to death, it turned out he had been neglected and abused both by previous owners as well as their other bigger dogs. But even after all that he is a VERY sweet and loving gentle good dog. The first week or two were absolutely overwhelming (some days felt like nightmare) until we adapted to our new lifestyle together. But it has got a lot better. I took him to the vet and he is recovering from some gut health issues. He has gained some weight and has learned all of the basic commands, he has got some of his confidence back. My biggest concern - the bonding part - let me tell you he is obsessed with me and my partner, but especially with me as I give him most of the attention. He is very protective of us. I know I have a lot of work to do for him in future but he is an Absolutely amazing dog.
I bought my brand new dobby rio. He is sleeping and is too tired and hungry but very friendly and sleepy yeah😂
Nice
So glad you enjoyed this vide, Vronica!
A very large loving breed they adore their families
Please somebody give me some good reason to convince my wife! lol I’ve been wanting one for so long but she just doesn’t think that’s a good idea. I told her multiple reason why we should get one and how he would be such a great dog around the kids and a very good guard dog. And would y’all think a Doberman and Aussie be a good duo? We have a toy Aussie as well
Like I’m going to show my wife this video but I need to convince her 100%😭
So long as the Aussie is dog friendly and accepts another dog in its house, and they're both well socialized. There's going to be a lot of high energy there though 😁
Great question! Here is a video you can watch together - "The 20 BEST Things About Owning a Doberman in 2023" th-cam.com/video/FLrGmACNCbA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3KNLkmbKZIpi539j and one with pros and cons you could both consider: th-cam.com/video/kSgCR9BZMHs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mTYz8H11MDQV6Kgv. A Doberman and an Aussie would certainly have a lot of energy together!
The myths from the 70’s convinced my parents not let me have one.
Ahh, sad!
My #1 reason: poor health. My #2 reason: other people's reaction. Instead, I have a very tall Standard Poodle
From 2.5yrs to 3.5yrs my fixed male ATE HIS BEDS INSTEAD OF HIS FOOD!!!
My girl is LAZY, sleeps in my bed all the time, 3 years old in August, 90 pound European.
I have two, they sleep all day then go nuts with hyperactivity when I get home in the evening!!
they are how you train them: ours was very smart, super protective & great with babies
Hey, I have a 4 months old female doberman puppy. Recently she started to have the issue of peeing while she's asleep in the night. She's peeing correctly in the day but at night she's just peeing on the bed while I'm sleeping with her. Do you know anything about this issue...!!?🤕
Try a doggy diaper, and lots of going outside time ....
@@lostinspacerobinson1527 actually I wake her up every 2-3 hours in the night and take her out for peeing, but still she ends up peeing on the bed. And this started happening very recently like 10 days ago, before that she used to wake up and pee at the right place all by herself. But now this issue is starting to happen
Is she crate trained and if so does she pee in there?
Have you had her checked for a urinary tract infection (UTI)? That would be my first thought
If you won't a dog as a lap dog then the American Doberman is for you , BUT if you won't a Doberman with high drive an built in protection then go for a Eastern block breed ideally an import
Yes! There are a lot of difference between the two types of Dobermans. Here is an article describing them: www.dobermanplanet.com/difference-between-an-american-and-european-doberman/
@DobermanPlanet
Hi that really nice of you to take the time to reply to me I appreciate it will definitely check it out , once again thank you
Doberman's are awesome. No other dog like them..❤
I want a Dobermann, but it doesnt fit in my life right now. And i hate it!!
Question is it true that anything in the pea family is a No, No?
In fact the dobermanns i knew were hyperactive. Because they spent the day caged, and were let loose at night? Always rounding the fences
What is best age to bring doberman puppy...🙂
Can I bring the doberman in early age like in 5 or 8 days...🙂
No. 6 weeks minimum.
They would still need to nurse from their mother at that age, could not eat solid food yet. 6 weeks minimum, or 8 even better, dogs that are taken from their mothers too early tend to have more issues with separation anxiety, or anxiety in general. Since Dobies can sometimes have issues with that in general, you definitely wouldn't want to do anything that might increase, contribute to that
That is way, WAY too young to get a puppy of any breed. No ethical breeder will want to sell you a puppy that young. Most will be looking to home/sell you a pup once its about 8 weeks / 2 months old.
@@thecawckiestking I brought my female ( ruby red) Dobie home at 6 weeks old 2 years ago, what an amazing dobie she is , super smart loves her family highly protective and an excellent guard dog , her ears were beautifully cropped and tail , got to give them lots of love and attention, she's so smart she almost mimics me , it's insane how smart she is , by the way , best Frisbee catching dog I've ever had !
Cheers 🍻 !
8 weeks is recommended! The puppy's mother is an important teacher in his life until then.
I saw the trainer making the distracted comment. Sad.
You might not want a Doberman if you have a anxiety disorder, they never sit still, VERY high energy. They pace constantly even with many walks per day. Of course this isn’t true with every dog, this is our 3rd dobie, previous dogs were more mellow.
I’ve thought about a Doberman but I stuck with Rottweilers.
My voice teacher kept one under the piano, and even though she saw me twice a week and I generally love dogs she was way overly aggressive and protective. Not a pleasant animal.
Noticed you said "she". It has been my experience, the majority of times female dogs are more protective of family. Male dogs seem to be very protective of territory. Not always of course, but commonly.
Won't lie - if I'd known about the velcro dog thing I would've chosen a different breed. 😂 I literally have to put my girl outside with her toys and cousins to have a moment's peace. She's half GSD, half Doberman.
Hahaha it's just like having a toddler!
@@DobermanPlanet OMG,. it is!!! I tell people all the time that I decided early on that I didn't want kids but didn't realize I would end up with a four-legged one. Thank you for all your help with figuring her out!
❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
there is no better breed.... my girls turns 12 next month. She'd s the best dog ever. My kids are 6 and 10 and have grown up with her. She is slowing down and full of fatty deposits. I know her time is limited, but we are making the best of it. My kids adore her, as do my wife and I.
