This Video was finished back in November, fresh off the announcement that GoSV was coming to Steam. As I'm sure you're aware, GoSV is currently out AND in English, so I got what I asked for. In other words, I am fully aware that it is out now, and I've been playing it, and enjoying it.
I remember seeing gameplay of this game when i was a kid because of a random youtube recommendation and i was VERY confused,i didnt known anything about touhou besides vampire girl,MUGEN and mcdonalds so imagine my face when i saw ripped rinnosuke and elrich doing THE special shot on my screen.
I really hope that this game gets a sequel at some point; with 19 coming out we've now had over half the series come out after this game, each of which has a ton of characters I'd like to see in this style, with their own abilities and special moves...but that seems increasingly unlikely considering the beast of a project that'd have to be. Seriously, for how well known of a fangame this is among the Touhou community, it's strange that the last game in its style predates Sanae.
The special shots in this are amazing, Mima's Twilight Spark might be my favorite. They did a good job with the characters and animation!...Well maybe they did too GOOD of a job, that Ryunnosuke and Elrich Combination shot is both the most beautiful and cursed thing i ever see.
Wait, I remember seeing this game over 10 years ago. It was in some sort of YTP short made for a collab where Fat Mario ends up being beaten by Flandre. I forgot what the Video with all the compiled YTPs was called, though.
I guess i could say i achieved my goal, i've been talking about this game so much on the Instagram touhou community and posting clips of the game, my love for it is so BIG because it's a recreation of one of my childhood video games. Seeing it being a bit relevant nowadays makes me happy! Thank you for this video, also great thumbnail art!!
Imagine a Touhou Soccer nowadays. We now have a card system to attach to some characters so they can be buffed, 2-player mode is slightly more viable, and the characters... Hoo boi, we have people that interacted with balls, beasts from which one of them has leg techniques to show off for days, Okina is goalkeeper material, Hecatia is a potential jacked-up extra boss, and considering how team-ups went in AoCF, it's pretty much viable to have those teams in an special attack for themselves.
This was a super great video, and the Touhou soccer streams are some of my very faves. Thank you for giving attention to such a superb game and looking forward to the next matches~ ((Truly enjoy that this is a game where Daiyousei gets the love she deserves))
Even if I don't really play sports games(outside the Wii series/51 Clubhouse Games) but I gotta appreciate the artwork and ridiculous trolling. It's pure 2000's Touhou/anime madness, and I love it.
(gonna copy/paste my comment from Suwawako's vid of this) it is this game where i started my journey to get to know about Touhou universe and become a huge fan and i am grateful for it. As for the game itself,It's literally a Pseudo Touhou Remaster of the classic Captain Tsubasa 2 Super Striker for the nes which is one of my favorite NES game ever. The Plot,The Gameplay and Heck EVEN the Girls are also straight a carbon copy of that game but with a Touhou twist and the OST itself are also again, faithfully remixed versions of the game too. So knowing my favorite nes game got an interesting twist of a remaster plus listening to the metal remix is such a delight to me and i thank you for giving it an attention cus this is nostalgic to me.
I've actually played 2 player It works well... For the most part The only way i found to get player 2 to even function is to have steam controller support activated and MAKE SURE THAT YOU DON'T UNPLUG IT, YOU'LL HAVE TO RESTART THE GAME TO GET IT TO WORK AGAIN. Sadly, this has huge limitations. The second player, for some reason, controls both p1 and p2 players, but you still have separate inputs while making passes and stuff, p2 can't just make you shoot without your consent, as far as I'm aware Other than that, it's crazy fun to play with someone, it's very chaotic
Aight so for the tactics menu I found a whole ass document on how they all work not just on tactics but even all how the stats work so if you're interested in reading them I suggest to grab a drink cuz this is a long read. Attacking tactics: Tactics you can use when you currently have the ball: Overlap This tactic makes your full-backs move up the pitch higher than normal. In the process, it also increases their speed. This is the tactic which boosts the aerial ability of your players in Catenaccio formation, including the number 7’s 2.2 times boost. If you lose the ball after using this command, you cannot use defensive in-game tactics immediately after the opposition moves, as the game will say that ‘Everyone’s forward’. Typically, you have to wait until the opposition passes the ball again. All Up This prompts your players to start moving up the pitch, but the players won’t charge straight forward so sometimes it might not work as well as expected. It is likely to give you a lot of players to cross to in the opponent’s penalty area, but it is still risky if the defence is not there to cover if you lose the ball. If you have the Avalanche, it generally does the job better when attacking. Still, this tactic can be effective on a counter-attack if you use it right. Wing Attack This gives a +10 boost to dribbling if a player is on the touch-line. Your forwards will head towards the opponent’s goal, making you more likely to find them with a cross. Sometimes, your team-mates will also come towards your players in an attempt to give you an option to use a one-two Avalanche (200 guts) Sakuya required Your players will try to form something of a diamond in front of Sakuya. If the ball breaks loose, it will always come to one of your players. However, this also boosts the power of Sakuya’s Killing Doll noticeably. Since it has no decay, if you use it and the opposing goalkeeper doesn’t catch it, it’ll land at one of your players so you can continue attacking. Of course, Killing Doll might score itself, anyway. It’s also useful to use it before using a shot in a 1-on-1. If the goalkeeper can only knock it away, it’ll land at one of your players and you’ll have an empty goal to aim at. The Avalanche effect ends when the opponents get the ball back, or the opposing goalkeeper catches the ball. Fast Break (200 guts) Patchouli or Ran required This increases the movement speed of all your team-mates except whoever is on the ball. The speed increase is rather high, so an effective place to activate it would be with a central defender once they’re on the halfway line, allowing a whole load of your team to go forward. If you pick one person you want to stay back and use Fast Break with them, it can also be useful if you want the rest of your team to quickly go forward. Since 200 guts is quite a lot for Patchouli to use up, it might be wise to add some recovery items to her in Travel Mode, or you can use her Read special in defense to boost her guts again. If you have Patchouli and Ran on the pitch at the same time, only Patchouli will use up guts when you use the Fast Break. Once Patchouli’s guts go below 200, the Fast Break cannot be used even if Ran’s guts are over 200. If you want to keep using the command, you have to take Patchouli off the pitch so then the Fast Break will take guts off Ran instead. The Fast Break effect lasts for five minutes. After it runs out, you can simply activate it again Fast Break (200 guts) Patchouli or Ran required This increases the movement speed of all your team-mates except whoever is on the ball. Stay Up Using this means your forwards will not track back, and will stay put until you get the ball back. If any midfielders are in front of the ball, they too will stay forward. Normal Defense This cancels whatever defensive command you are currently using at the time, and resets your defense back to their normal tactic. Suicide Sliding Squad (80 guts) Marisa or Meiling required After a few turns of movement, your players’ speed will increase, and if they are close enough, they will head directly towards the opposition player who has the ball. This is a great tactic to use if you need to quickly mark a player If Marisa and Meiling are on the pitch at the same time, using Suicide Sliding Squad will use up 80 guts for Marisa. When her guts are less than 80, Suicide Sliding Squad can’t be used even if Meiling has more than 80 guts. To use it again, you have to take Marisa off the pitch so that Meiling can use Suicide Sliding Squad instead. Team Defence (80 guts) Yuyuko or Xanadu required The effect of this is the same as the ‘All Back’ tactic, but this will also increase the speed of all your players, making it notably more effective. The guts bug will still apply to these two as it does to Marisa and Meiling. Just assume that if more than two characters can use the same tactics that it will only take guts from the first character listed, this case being Yuyuko. Ultra-Mark (75 guts) Letty required Using this will make all of your players’ head directly and immediately towards the opposition player who has the ball at the time. In the right circumstances you can completely surround a player after using this, especially if you use it in your own half. You don't get any speed boost from the mark. Pass Guard (60 guts) Komachi required This has no effect towards your players’ movement on the pitch, but it does seem to boost their ability to cut out passes with their automatic pass-cuts. That's all the tactics I guess. Now the real mystery to solve is how Eiki's "Guilty or not guilty" intercept works. By the way, for those who are unaware, there's a touhou soccer mod called touhou soccer moushuuden rebirth, I haven't heard good things about it though, like how the intercept almost never works, how it runs much worse than the original BUT it adds in MoF characters and even the three fairies of light. Now where to find this mod is something you have to figure out for yourself. Maybe in the same place you can get moushuuden is the way to go.
Honestly, there needs to be more of these fangames with the "Everyone is here"-concept applied to them. I mean, doesn't it give everyone life to see Mima run around in the same cast as characters from Seihou, "modern" touhou and even errors?(Lily Black was drawn as a seperate entity from Lily White at one point and Zun essencially just asked everyone to ignore that because it was an oopsie that managed to slip through the cracks) 9:47 Her hitbox is just too big. 15:39 Mukyu-jackhammer.
It truly is an amazing game; where your skill increases the more you find out about how the game works. It's rare to have games nowadays where the aim is simply getting an understanding of how to approach it. In this case though, knowing how to approach the game in the best ways is almost already game-breaking. I have done a speedrun of Travel mode (With all sub-story stuff unlocked) with a real time of 10 hours, 23 minutes and 11 seconds, 6 years ago. To my surprise, there's ways to blast through the whole travel mode easily except for the final match, who you need to find the right characters for. And I still have absolutely no idea how to get the RNG to co-operate and give you the right characters that you need; that's probably the most scary part about that run. I wonder if anyone else has done runs, really.
Yoooo I stumbled on your Twitch archive of that speedrun! Excellent stuff, I wouldn't have even considered speedrunning this. As far as I know you're the only person who's ever speedran this. I looked and looked and found no one else.
@@hassanico9999 Thanks for the confirmation! It wasn't even all that serious (Since I did let some animations play after all) but it definitely was good fun running it. Might wanna go back to it some time, especially if shop RNG gets figured out.
Same energy as Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.(That game isn't hard to understand mechanically, but rather how it controls. The funny thing is, as long as the touchscreen isn't defective, the game actually plays very consistently once one learned how it works in the first place. Of course, the game is still hated to this day for everyone having a bigger skill issue than me who is the incarnation of skill issues.)
I've played this game for a long time, beat the main and sub stories then i didn't played the game for a few months. After that i've started travel mode and game starts glitching: sprites blinking, overall game speed is slow despite 60 fps, stutters... I've tried reinstall, different locale emulators, it's still glitching... I really enjoyed the game, i can't even believe that this game was made in 2006. Music(covers of Captain Tsubasa's themes like Toho Academy's theme from Captain Tsubasa II and Netherlands theme from Captain Tsubasa IV are my favourites), animations for special shots, sprites, how developers implements 2hu characters with Captain Tsubasa 2 story in main scenario and how they adapted characters like Reimu is Tsubasa, Marisa and Alice is Hyuga/Misaki, Sakuya is Matsuyama, Patchouli is Jun Misugi(this is especially good touch since Misugi have heart condition that gets him tired faster and still his stats is very high). Thanks for the video, i'm glad that this game is still remembered even 17 years after release.
Lmao Akyuu selling slaves sent me Btw, the only thing missing in this video for me was a short compilation of your voice-over narration in your tourneys streams when talking about how the IA sometimes decides to do the most non-sensical thing when prompted against something, haha
As a person who played this game on Twitch back in 2012 because it was a Captain Tsubasa III-based game and I like that game and I had no idea about Touhou at the time I was still able to fully enjoy it. I completed the travel mode once, I got lucky I got my own Rinnosuke by pure accident (as far as I understand Rinnosuke, SGGK Letty and Elrich are ULTRA-RARE in the shop in travel mode), so I got Reimu with her crazy stats and Rinnosuke, and my Suika GK was having one of the best GK items that boosted her stats so she was able to stop even the best shots (her strength was one of the reason I picked her as my main goalie, she's not that easy to get knocked by a ball). It wasn't an easy matchup still, but I had all the guns I needed. And Letty can be scored on even her SGGK skill, Reimu Fantasy Combine can score from penalty area. Rinnosuke can score with his Combo with Tokiko. And yeah, I also had Marisa, Alice and Patchouli with the item that increases recovery. Marisa's Final Spark can also score against Letty with the right conditions. What I did like in Touhou Soccer is all that characters that resembled Captain Tsubasa characters. Reimu is definitely Tsubasa. Rinnosuke is definitely Coimbra (who was broken in Captain Tsubasa II and had crazy high shot stats that can even score on you having the maximum level in the game), Marisa is Hyuga, Suika GK is Muller, Letty GK is Wakabayashi, Letty-outfielder is Jitou, Cirno is Ishizaki (just as dumb as Ryu Ishizaki was in Captain Tsubasa), Patchouli is Misugi (who had heart problems that made him losing guts quicker and not recover them as fast as others can), Sakuya is Matsuyama. Rumia in Nitta (her special shots looks just like Nitta's ones from Captain Tsubasa II, not including Twilight Flight Dance), Alice (newer one) is Misaki... but with dolls (especially Medicine) instead of Reimu as Tsubasa. Prismriver sisters are mix between Tachibana Brothers (defensive moves) and Shutetsu Trio of Taki, Izawa and Kisugi (one-two). Remilia's "Master of the Red Sun" is Karl Heinz Schneider's "Fire Shot". Yumeko is Gertize (save animation is copy of "Dark Illusion" of Gertize).
Can you do a video on Shanghai.EXE? It's a MegaMan Battle Network inspired fan game of Touhou. (with a few references here and there to the MMBN series)
I believe Moushuuden added the Side Scenarios. Maybe Travel Mode too, but at the very least Side Scenario was part of the add-on. As well as some balance adjustments like Mima getting her "It's No Use!" power nerfed to be RNG-based rather than a blanket Spell Card block.
Gotta love how the early days of the internet resulted in *very* unhinged content. Be it questionable content like the fanservice (which isn't a bad thing at times) or the AI being a cheating bastard with unfair bullshit that requires abusing different aspects of the game.
When the 5 minute music starts and I’m in the lead in the final matches, you bet your ass I’m gonna run in my corner over and over till Renko blows the whistle. You cannot make me risk getting the ball stolen by monster in a fundoshi for a single point.
For what I see from moushoden gameplay. It's like a soccer game with Touhou characters with mechanics and artstyle like Captain Tsubasa and special techniques or shoots that visually looks the same or even beyond of thing that Inazuma Eleven capable to show. Yea, weird bland, but really cool ngl😊😊

the opponent’s goal, making you more likely to find them with a cross. Sometimes, your team-mates
will also come towards your players in an attempt to give you an option to use a one-two
Avalanche (200 guts)
Sakuya required
Your players will try to form something of a diamond in front of Sakuya. If the ball breaks loose, it
will always come to one of your players. However, this also boosts the power of Sakuya’s Killing Doll
noticeably. Since it has no decay, if you use it and the opposing goalkeeper doesn’t catch it, it’ll land

ends when the opponents get the ball back, or the opposing goalkeeper catches the ball.
Fast Break (200 guts)
Patchouli or Ran required
This increases the movement speed of all your team-mates except whoever is on the ball. The speed
increase is rather high, so an effective place to activate it would be with a central defender once
they’re on the halfway line, allowing a whole load of your team to go forward. If you pick one person
you want to stay back and use Fast Break with them, it can also be useful if you want the rest of your
team to quickly go forward. Since 200 guts is quite a lot for Patchouli to use up, it might be wise to
add some recovery items to her in Travel Mode, or you can use her Read special in defense to boost
her guts again.
If you have Patchouli and Ran on the pitch at the same time, only Patchouli will use up guts when
you use the Fast Break. Once Patchouli’s guts go below 200, the Fast Break cannot be used even if
Ran’s guts are over 200. If you want to keep using the command, you have to take Patchouli off the
pitch so then the Fast Break will take guts off Ran instead. The Fast Break effect lasts for five
minutes. After it runs out, you can simply activate it again

Defensive tactics: Tactics that can be used when the enemy has the ball
All Back
This makes all your players charge back towards your own half, and once they are all sufficiently far
back, they will not go any further than the halfway line until you get the ball back.
Stay Up
Using this means your forwards will not track back, and will stay put until you get the ball back. If any
midfielders are in front of the ball, they too will stay forward.
Normal Defense
This cancels whatever defensive command you are currently using at the time, and resets your
defense back to their normal tactic.
Suicide Sliding Squad (80 guts)
Marisa or Meiling required
After a few turns of movement, your players’ speed will increase, and if they are close enough, they
will head directly towards the opposition player who has the ball. This is a great tactic to use if you
need to quickly mark a player
If Marisa and Meiling are on the pitch at the same time, using Suicide Sliding Squad will use up 80
guts for Marisa. When her guts are less than 80, Suicide Sliding Squad can’t be used even if Meiling
has more than 80 guts. To use it again, you have to take Marisa off the pitch so that Meiling can use
Suicide Sliding Squad instead.
Team Defence (80 guts)
Yuyuko or Xanadu required
The effect of this is the same as the ‘All Back’ tactic, but this will also increase the speed of all your

Letty required
Using this will make all of your players’ head directly and immediately towards the opposition player
who has the ball at the time. In the right circumstances you can completely surround a player after
using this, especially if you use it in your own half.
You don't get any speed boost from the mark.
Pass Guard (60 guts)
Komachi required
This has no effect towards your players’ movement on the pitch, but it does seem to boost their
ability to cut out passes with their automatic pass-cuts.

@@lpfan4491 I wasn't saying it did?
What a nice video, I kept taking notes of the fangames you also listed at the end, thanks for making this :)
Play the outsider who loved gensokyo.
It's a lengthy rpg game. The story is surprisingly good
It truly is an amazing game; where your skill increases the more you find out about how the game works.
I would have mentioned some of the bugs but a great video that represents all the game has to offer.
I absolutely lost it at Genji's sprit.
Is that an MMZ pfp? Nice
Lmao Akyuu selling slaves sent me
Btw, the only thing missing in this video for me was a short compilation of your voice-over narration in your tourneys streams when talking about how the IA sometimes decides to do the most non-sensical thing when prompted against something, haha
Absolute floor chickens the AI is at times
He played shangai.exe already. Now if he’s going to make a vid about it is another thing.
Oh my god they are ballin'
I believe Moushuuden added the Side Scenarios. Maybe Travel Mode too, but at the very least Side Scenario was part of the add-on. As well as some balance adjustments like Mima getting her "It's No Use!" power nerfed to be RNG-based rather than a blanket Spell Card block.
Damn Mima was brutally gutted after the expansion.
Reaction to "It's no use" getting nerfed: *sad Sonic fan-noises*
By the way are there other balance adjustments made? I’m curious
@@lazydelibird
Not anything specific that I'm aware of.
AI cheating is nothing new.
Vamo' mes- Uh i mean Vamo' reimu!
Where are you getting that the circle is still active?
Last activity on their website dates back to 2018.
Nice Combination!
Moriya shrine has the sequel touhou soccer rebirth if you wanna try it out
Less sequel more if a mod created by another person. Also it ain’t in English
This game looks really cool, where can you get it from (with english)
Mima with legs is real
For what I see from moushoden gameplay.
It's like a soccer game with Touhou characters with mechanics and artstyle like Captain Tsubasa and special techniques or shoots that visually looks the same or even beyond of thing that Inazuma Eleven capable to show.
Yea, weird bland, but really cool ngl😊😊
There’s a lot of Captain Tsubasa references in the game. Even in the manual they stated it’s inspired by it though not by name for some reason.
@lazydelibird Imagine Reimu fire drive shoot, but the angle is way sharper or Meiling going a more powerful suppressive kickback cannon😂😂

Why would anyone draw this
I’d question who drew and animated the fundoshi barrier first.
