Ukes of Hazzard I think what's fantastic about this arrangement is that you went back and found the underlying key musical elements of this beautiful song. This song is more than just a saxophone solo. There's the build up, the intro, the outro, the harmony, the melody. It's fascinating how many layers George Michael built into this song when he wrote it and you have definitely captured the essence of Careless Whisper with your performance. Outstanding work.
So So So nice.and chilled ......when i heard this.....i thought of Sade doing the back up vocals sing this track....and a group of island girls doing the slow hula............LOL
This is brilliant stuff. It has all the finesse of the original song. Could you share some info about the recording process? How did you record the uke so that the sound is so clean? And what software did you use to process the audio/video? Any sound effects?
smeyox Sure thing! The first thing I do is tab out my arrangement in Guitar Pro. I usually start from an existing guitar tab, or just import a midi file, if nothing else is available. From there I transpose everything to fit into ukulele range. Sometimes I'll use odd turnings if a song just doesn't fit. Once those are done, I'll spend some time practicing each part and making refinements 'till I'm fairly comfortable and familiar with them. Once everything is ready, I'll export them to the Guitar Pro player app on my iPad. For recording I power down everything in my apartment that makes any noise. Then I'll open up the finished tab on my iPad where I can play it back for both sight-reading cues and as a sync-track to keep me in time. Then I just go through and record each part, one by one. The actual recording is just an iPhone. I've recently gotten an apogee mic for it which has really helped improve the audio quality! For editing, I import all the individual tracks into Sony Vegas and layer them together. As for effects, mostly I just use reverb on the brighter tracks to fluff them up a bit, and some minor eq tweaks to smooth out any rough spots. I also used to also pitch shift the 'bass line' down an octave for better low end (including in this vid), but in my newer vids, I've actually bought a baritone uke for the bass. Other than that, I do a little slice-n-dice to remove things like breaths and chair squeaks and fix the occasional flubbed note or bad timing and that's it! Once I'm happy with the audio, the video is just basic boring key-frame pan/crop animation. Then I render a vid and upload to youTube!
Ukes of Hazzard I thought you were cool just for making the video but you are even cooler for taking time to response this kinds of comments and being so meticulous with details. great job I love all you videos. Greeting from Argentina.
