+colorcountrykid - Supposing it is a sham, it's a sham that uplifts, purifies, inspires and brings myself and my family great peace and happiness. And, if it is a sham, then it is my view that every other religion, creed, doctrine, or even non belief that exists or has existed in the world is a sham as well. Having studied religions of many kinds for many years, I have yet to find any belief system (or system of non belief) that answers so many of life's deep questions than does the doctrine of the Mormon church. Thus, If someday I were to discover my religion is a sham, I will have no regrets because I will be no worse off than yourself or any other human being that has every walked the earth.
+Douglas Olson So, if I understand your stand in Mormonism is that as long as something makes you feel good even though is a sham you will embrace it as the truth. The last time I checked, truth isn't always something that makes us feel good. In fact, some things within the truth can hurt us more than make us feel good or inspired. For example, when we commit a sin and we desire to follow Christ, we will abide by the truth and that will make us feel guilty, not worthy of being in the presence of Our Lord JesusChrist. The truth is simply that which tells us what's right or wrong, what is bad from good. But when you say, you don't care if it's a sham as long as makes you and your family feel good; I would say to you my friend, watch out where you're heading to because there are so many things in this world that can make us feel good, but not all are from God. Not all ways lead to heaven, only Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life. Joseph Smith can't save your soul before God. Smith said; he's done more for the salvation of men than any other man on earth except Jesus. What's wrong with that statement? Comparing himself with Jesus Our Savior! Smith also said this; "I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam...Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him, but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet" (History of the Church, vol. 6, p.408-409). Are you still going to embrace this false religion as the truth? Just remember, you're not the only one heading to hell, but you're bringing with you your whole family.

I had the opportunity to serve with Elder Holland during his time in Chile and I can truly say that he is a genuine person. During this short time I can tell you that there is an Elder Holland and there is Jeff Holland. The office of apostle holds him to the responsibility of representing the church. However, during informal settings he is a person that is very easy to talk to and there is no feeling of condescension or judgement.
@@wallybrown9509 you have been brain washed all your life by the church. Who do you think is the humble? Person A: I know where we came from, I know why we are here and I know where we are going after we die. I know the answer because I have a belief system. Person B: I don't know where we came from, I don't know why we are here and what will happen to us after we die. Our universe is so vast and I don't know the answer.
Amazing how well he handles each and every question. Imagine if politicians spoke this clearly and openly about the questions posed to them. Agree or disagree with the LDS Church, you have to admit that Elder Holland excellently fielded some pretty tough questions, some of which were laced with a little antagonism.
If the LDS Church is smart, Elder Holland will be the next president of their church. He is the most genuine and well spoken out of all the twelve apostles. In my opinion, he's one of the few in the Mormon hierarchy this not a total asshole.
Roger MacDonald I don't know what your opinion of the other senior Church leaders is based off of, but having personally met several of them, and having benefited much from their messages, I respectfully disagree.
@@rogermacdonald7288 It has never and will never be up to any individual upon the face of this Earth to know or choose who the next President (Prophet) will be.
@@tigergreg8 No? We already know who the next president of the church will be - the most senior apostle of the 14 remaining apostles. The president of the church is always the most senior apostle. When he dies, the next senior apostle is "called" to be president. So yes, we know who will be next. And, you pointed it out "It has never and will never be up to....to know or choose who the next President..will be". So how do you explain the process how Brigham Young became president of the church after Joseph Smith died? Sure seems like it was up to an individual to know and to choose the next president (see the following: www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/10/02/what-story-brigham-young-tells-us-about-donald-trump/, Journal of Mormon History Vol. 40, No. 2 (Spring 2014), pp. 92-158 (67 pages). There's so much more. Who is to say that the Brigham Young group of Mormons was the "true" group?
I used to attend as many guest speakers and discussions as I could during my own university days. Broader viewpoint and deeper understanding of issues and all that. The LDS church is greatly misunderstood. I remember my 7th grade US History teacher spreading incorrect facts to his students. Kids in elementary had wild misconceptions. Preachers in my mother's hometown would discredit the religion during their services. Media didn't bother to present facts correctly. I'm embarrassed I responded to a troll in the comments here earlier. As a scientist and person of faith, it was great to hear Elder Holland speak. I could listen to Elders Holland, David A. Bednar, and Dieter F. Uchtdorf all day.
What a fantastic question and answer session. I wish Elder Holland had repeated the questions since they were hard to hear. However, his answers were divinely inspired and confirmed my testimony of the truthfulness of his message.
I think everything that was said was well-spoken, and respectful to the beliefs of others while still expressing his own convictions. It makes me wonder why these few detractors continue to fight so hard against something that is inherently good, doctrine aside. This church does more to care for humankind than most other churches I have had the experience of visiting or attending. Christ did not teach contention. He did not teach that the 'enlightened' should tear down the beliefs of others. It saddens me, though does not surprise me, that these few very angry people, would waste so much time kicking against the pricks.
I'm sorry, why did you assume I was Mexican? Have you lived a Mormon lifestyle? I did not answer you the first time bc I determined it would be a waste of my time. If you really want to have an intelligent conversation, aiming to gain insight then by all means please message me privately. Otherwise, I cannot waste my time speaking to a brick wall that aims to bash me and my beliefs. Im honestly so surprised you came back after 9 weeks to attempt and instigate something. It appears to me that you need to go find something that truly makes you happy. Good day.
Hello Castellon! Thanks for your comments. I am a faithful Latter-day also. Tapos, are you by chance Filipino? My wife is Pinay (Filipino). God bless you,
What blessing to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it is great and i am proud. In the church we are taught to abstain from tobacco, drugs, alcohol, coffee, tea and we are obeying those. We are taught to have one wife, we are taught to love one another, there are lot's people i had witnessed that changed their live when they hear the gospel, they live a happy and decent when they joined the church.
The gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. Persecutions may rage, mobs may combine armies may assemble and calumny may defame. But the truth of God will go forth........this quote I add my witness. His gospel, even Jesus Christ, is again here upon the earth. The ugly lies have been foretold and we yet we will move forward in faith. We know that He is our Master, our Redeemer, our Savior and our King. It is He that is at the head of His gospel and in Him we will trust and follow always.
Anyone who comes onto TH-cam and bashes on someone else's religion is anything but Christlike. You cannot truly call yourself Christian and attack other religions. Really think about your actions and how Christ would view them.
Really????? but it is ok for the Mormon leaders to call all other religions the church of Satan??? And don't give me that no they didn't. It was Joseph Smiths own words from one of the multiple versions of the first vision. Yea the Mormons are really Christ like.
Loran Garland JS never used the term "church of satan", dude. I realize that it sounds dramatically damning against the church, but it's also not true. Besides, that was over 150 years ago. I'm sure the dead people have gotten over it, LOL.
SportsRant, have you ever read the new testament? Jesus regularly bashed on the scribes and pharisees calling them hypocrites and threatening them with damnation. Speaking critically of someone else or their religion is not an "attack". It is an exercise of free speech. Your right to religious freedom does not eliminate another person's right to free speech. Playing the victim role to silence criticism; how exactly would Christ view that? Or is the Bill of Rights just another form of "anti-Mormon" intolerance?
TheSportsRant I agree: Anyone who bashes other people's churches and says they're all wrong, and an abomination to God, and that their professors are all corrupt is anything but Christlike. Oh, wait a minute ... Isn't that what Joseph said?!
Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can. ~ JOHN WESLEY

Ed Decker had made the "God Makers" film exposing the workings within the Temple and other facets of our religion...And the church by changing the Endowment Ceremony...Made it impossible for Decker to be able to make a mockery of the Endowment Ceremony within the Temple, as he doesn't have a recommend to go in to see what is going on any more. The ceremony, being symbolic, is just our indoctrination into how we are supposed to get into the Celestial Kingdom.
If anybody wants to know if what he said is true ask God. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him" ( James 1:5)
That scripture is about asking for wisdom. It has nothing to do with asking what someone is saying is true or not. A wise person after praying would investigate the Book of Mormon's historical claims with historical means like evidence, archaeology, history, etc. Joseph Smith didn't know how the Amerindians got there before Europeans or from where they came, so he made up his Israelite migration story up. Smith should have told them of his day that they came from Asia if he really had prophetic and supernatural help from God. Instead Smith sent missionaries to the Lamanites ( Indians) with an erroneous book that has nothing to do with them or their origins. It's stupid really.
Elder Joseph, I completely agree that knowledge of truth is different from wisdom. Dictionary.com defines wisdom as "knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action..." So, to me this means that wisdom is not under knowledge of truth, but an understanding of how to appropriately act on that truth. I also agree with you that historical evidence is important. I don't believe God asks us to throw all history and science out the window and jump on the illogical crazy train of spiritual learning. He wants us to use both textbooks, classrooms, and spiritual methods, etc. to learn truth. But I think it's important to remember that God knows what we sometimes don't know. Less than 200 years ago there was no scientific or historical evidence that smoking or tobacco had any negative health effects but now we know it increases your risk for coronary heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer. It also damages blood vessels, increases blood pressure which can lead to blood clots and heart attack. Not to mention lung diseases (including COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis), asthma and lung cancer. If you would have told a smoker in the early 1800's about these now common scientific facts, they would have thought you were crazy. I don't know all the answers on the native americans and why historical evidence is contrary to what is written in The Book of Mormon but I do know that God answers prayers. I know that The Book of Mormon is true and I know that following the commandments inside it,s pages lead to true happiness. It has made all the difference in my life. I know God can give you that same assurance. Your friend, Aaron
Aaron McCombs " I don't know all the answers on the native americans and why historical evidence is contrary to what is written in The Book of Mormon " Historical evidence is contrary because the book isn't a real history (it's made up and it contains the erroneus ideas they had at that time). They believed the Indians may be lost tribes etc. They didn't know why their skin was different either. Here comes Joseph Smith seeing an opportunity to give answers and appoint himself a new career. Smith even writes in the BofM of the later Europeans coming over. I mean come on? he knew that already? I read the BofM and it was an obvious fake to me and resembled my life's experience of religious study with various churches. I could only conclude Smith wrote of his own life and insecurity into the narratives. " I know that The Book of Mormon is true " It's hopelessly erroneous with what we know of the origin of The Americas (New World) so I don't know how you have made 'true' to have a different meaning from what True really means. When Joseph Smith supposedly was speaking to the neighbourly Lamanites, He should have told them of their origins in Siberia and their migration over beringia, instead he tried to palm off a fraudulent history on them with a book that even tells them they turned dark skinned because of their ancestral unrighteousness. Spencer Kimball spoke in conference and still expected Lamanites on conversion to LDS to change white again! How ridiculous does it have to be before members wake up? Is being LDS like heroin addiction or something? Maybe you should say " I know I want it to be true but as it isn't, it doesn't matter to me because I like being LDS and it changed me for the better" Jehovahs WItnesses can equally say " I know The watchtower Magazines are True, even if they have been hopelessly wrong for the last 150 years". CTR!! - you don't have to believe Smith's book to do what is right. In fact many who believed Smith ended up doing some horrendous cruel things they might have otherwise not done. Our Ward Stake Patriarch once told me " Follow The prophet EJ, and if he's wrong you will still be blessed". My response " If you follow the prophet and he is wrong then you are an even bigger idiot than he is". Its a beautiful righteous philosophy and True!. Sincerely EJ I can't say my real name through fear as some LDS members are mentally ill and would love to harm me unfortunately. Religion affects some people negatively. It puts hate and aggression in them. Especially JW's.
EJ, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I appreciate you sharing your beliefs and thoughts with me. I'm grateful to live in a country where we can worship and believe what we want. Again, it was nice to share ideas and beliefs. Sincerely, Aaron
Aaron McCombs Since you are so high on the Book of Mormon I would ask you, as the missionaries do, to read the Book of Mormon. But not the current one. Read the original one from 1830 as I have. I think you will see, even after praying about it, that it is not what you were lead to believe it is.
It's pretty clear from the comments there are disagreements as to whether the LDS church is true or not. And that really is the question. Is The Book of Mormon true, or isn't it? Did Joseph Smith see God and Jesus Christ and restore the true church on the earth or was it all a lie? Those are the big questions that need to be answered. James, in the New Testament says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." The last chapter of The Book of Mormon explains how to gain that knowledge. Moroni says, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." I have done what both James and Moroni said. I have asked God whether or not the LDS church is true or not and received a witness from God. I know The Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. Did Joseph Smith make mistakes in life? Yes. Who of us hasn't? But he was chosen by God to restore the true church and saw God and Jesus Christ. And if some Joe Shmoe finds a website that "disproves" The Book of Mormon or Joseph Smith's prophetic calling they can't dissuade me from what I know. The knowledge of man is just that, imperfect and impartial knowledge. Knowledge from God is always truth. If anybody has sincere interest or questions about the church, I would be glad to share what the Mormons truly believe or better yet, do what James and Moroni say, "ask God."
Joseph Smith was a Liar and a Fraud. The BoM is a proven Fraud and thus it makes this Cult Fraudulent. He no more saw God, Jesus, John the Baptist or Moses than the Man in the Moon did! And that includes Moroni and the "Gold Plates," Pure Nonsense!
bowrudder finish the verse man! “A spirit does not have flesh and bones , as ye see me have.” He told the apostles this after the resurrection and asked them to touch the prints in his hands.
Prayer, studious thought, and miraculous personal experiences have always led to my personal testimoney that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true. Respectfully, I have learned very profound truths from those not of my own faith simply by listening and asking questions. Of Jeffery R Holland particularly in this video he expressed openess and respect for all the questions asked of him. Perfect man, no. An Apostle of Jesus Christ, Yes.
This message is for those faithful LDS trying to defend the Church. Do not waste your time debating these comments, it is just like throwing roses to pigs, they have no idea what they are talking about. Just let them drown in their hatreth and bitterness. We have better ways to surf the web where there are many sites and videos that inspire and build instead of destroying. They will not change their minds unless they repent, but that's something they have to do on their own.

Tom Pearson That was not at all uncommon at that time, though it is obviously a terrible thought right now. It happened in Biblical times as well, but more importantly it happened in the early 1800s without anyone thinking twice about it because people only lived to about 38 back then, so 14 was half of a person's life. Its not an excuse, that's just the way things were, check your geneology and you're likely to find something similar in there. Marriage at 14 was pretty common at the time.

This is wonderful. Thank heaven for great men like Elder Holland who teach such pure and true doctrine. I know he is an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I truly love this apostle. He speaks from the heart and is a holy man of God. I would encourage all to listen to him and judge for yourself. God has again revealed his love in these our days. I am curious - If that's true, then why did Joseph Smith do things contrary to established law? For example, he performed marriages without a license. Polygamy was also illegal in Illinois when he was practicing it. (source: Revised Laws of Illinois, 1833, p. 198-99). Destroying a printing press was also a crime. How does one reconcile these things with the 12th Article of Faith - "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law"?
@@joshwilkins2353 You have to look at the doctrines he was told and taught by Christ. It was not easy, in any way, to practice polygamy. He was told to do so, didn't have the guts to tell his wife but there is no evidence that he consummated any marriage before Emma knew and ultimately accepted it. Brian Hales did over 30 years of research on polygamy in the early church and found that Joseph Smith made mistakes but nothing like committing adultery or sodomy or pedophilia. He did find mistakes and errors that Joseph made, many of which are written by Joseph himself. He even exclaimed once that he thought he had lost his soul because he had sinned against God at one point. So obviously he made errors, but none of them were nefarious in nature or would make him unworthy to be a prophet. The doctrines that he received were completely new, such as the temple, polygamy, among others, it was difficult doing these things while the government actively looked for ways to place him in jail. They kept him in jail for many months without trial. They murdered him, many of the early saints persecuted him, tarred and feathered him and others and still after all of this, we find that we believe in following and being subject to the law. You don't understand that a lot of this was done on the run, from criminal government officials who went as far as to convince the U.S. government to exterminate the "Mormons." Still, he could have never done what he did without real and lasting guidance from God and His son Jesus Christ. He made many mistakes but taught incredible truths, and his testimony of Jesus is among the most powerful you will ever hear. He himself did nothing but proclaim Christ as our Lord and Savior. Satan doesn't want you to know that for sure.
@@monocuco818 Thanks. I do understand completely all that has been written about that period in church history (having been a member myself for over 40 years) and having done extensive research using church approved sources as well as historical sources from the various places the church had members. So if I understand you correctly, it's okay to violate the law if god tells you to do something that is contrary to the law? Joseph Smith was not innocent in all the cases legal authorities brought against him. Were some cases flimsy on the evidence to prove Joseph guilty? Yes (it even happens today; prosecutors still create weak cases just to show their authority, etc.). However, I believe that the charges brought against Joseph that ultimately put him in Carthage Jail were justified. He was initially charged with a charge to riot for ordering the destruction of the Nauvoo Expositor. I have never been able to understand the action Joseph took in that situation. He didn't like what was going to printed, so he ordered the destruction of the press? Very visible example of violating the First Amendment. Then, he was charged with treason against the State of Illinois by declaring martial law and ordering the Nauvoo Legion to guard Nauvoo. For that charge, I believe it could have gone either way; did he have a solid legal reason to call up the militia? No. I believe that in calling up the militia to protect Nauvoo, he was doing so in anticipation of what the State of Illinois would do (hence the charge of treason against the State of Illinois). "There's no evidence that he consummated any marriage before Emma knew". There's also no evidence to show that he didn't consummate any marriage. And for those who claim that he didn't have intimate relations with his plural wives because there were no children born from the relationship, contraception and abortion have existed for millennia. Some women are infertile; of course no children would be born from that relationship. If you've reached this point, I just wanted to say thank you for reading it all! Regarding all the points you made and ones I note in this reply, there were times that Joseph seemed to be threatening others to participate in polygamy. When Emma at one point protested plural marriage, I find it very convenient that Joseph "received" the revelation known as D&C 132, specifically verses 51-57. If Emma doesn't go along with what Joseph was doing, she'd be destroyed? And how nice that in that same section Joseph is told that the lord sealed upon him his exaltation, and then the lord proceeds to threaten Emma in verses 51-57. In addition to this revelation, Joseph used another method of convincing other women to participate in plural marriage with him. According to Brian Hales (I believe that he's the same Brian Hales you referenced), in "Encouraging Joseph Smith to Practice Plural Marriage: The Accounts of the Angel with a Drawn Sword" (pp. 55 - ), there were about twenty accounts of the angel with the drawn sword. Hales takes the position that these accounts were never corroborated, were embellished, etc. Telling someone, especially Joseph's younger plural wives, that he Joseph would be destroyed by an angel with a drawn sword if he didn't move forward with the plural marriages plays to the conception that those women had about Joseph (i.e. I'd better do what Joseph wants; he's the prophet, and I don't want to see him destroyed if I say no). Really? He also employed another "you should obey me because your family's salvation is at stake" with Helen Mar Kimball: "Smith gave Helen 24 hours to respond to his request. The girl consented only after Smith explained to her that it would ensure her eternal salvation, along with that of her family" (Anderson & Faulring, 1998). I thought that eternal salvation was my own to work out. Now Helen had her family's eternal salvation in her hands? If she loved her family, and there is every indication that she did, then how could she give an answer other than "yes"? That is not how I understand the plan of salvation to work and I have a real problem with anyone in authority (much less someone who says he's a prophet of god) threatening others if I don't do what he/she wants me to do. "Satan doesn't want you to know that for sure" - this presupposes that there is a god and therefore a satan. Is there a god? I do not know. If there is, is he/she the god that mormons believe in? How about the Muslims? Evangelical christians? Catholics? Would a loving god issue threats to a prophet to go along with what he was ordered to do (the angel with the sword)? Would a loving god tell a teen-age girl that her and her family's salvation rests on accepting Joseph's request? I'll end with these: 1. I cannot accept that god would be a hypocrite - "12th Article of Faith: we believe in being subject to kings...in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law" but then instruct Joseph to do something that was very clearly against the law. A more recent example is the 2015 policy about children of same-sex couples not being able to be baptized until 18 years of age, and as part of that, they have to have to move out of the home, disavow same-sex marriages and receive permission from the first presidency to get baptized. Since the church teaches the importance of baptism as the first step on the road to salvation, and as the church teaches the eternal nature and importance of the family unit, the 2015 policy in hypocrisy at it's best. (Yes, I know that the church changed that policy a couple of years ago. If Pres. Monson was indeed a prophet of god and received that policy via revelation, I cannot accept that a loving god would do that to children and their parents. And if Pres. Monson was a prophet, why then did Pres. Nelson need to receive another revelation ending the policy?) 2. Thank you very much for your thoughts and posts; you have been nothing but polite and professional in what you've said and how you've said it. We are never going to agree on any of this, but I have appreciated the exchange. I won't be posting anything more on this thread, so I wish you the best!
@@joshwilkins2353 I understand where you are coming from, many of the questions raised are from anit-LDS sources and most can be proven to be inaccurate. That does not mean Joseph was ever perfect, but that does mean that many of those stories are embellished only to attack Joseph Smith and the church, not to actually find the truth. The research is nothing but confirmation bias and not well done. Real research is showing that most of it is false... some of it is true, such as the racism in the church. Furthermore a lot of the stories you have come from the government which was completely and utterly corrupt in charging Joseph Smith falsely and never helping them even when their members were murdered by locals. Not only this, but the United States government gave an apology to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because of the extermination order that was ordered due to corrupt state officials. So literally nothing you read about from the government time can actually be accounted as fair or accurate, but only prejudiced and illegal. The few states were absolutely wrong, evil and immoral in the way they treated the early members. So do I blame Joseph for destroying the printing press? Not a bit. Was it his best move, definitely not, but you have to understand the circumstances. If you take into account the fact that many people were actively trying to kill and imprison Joseph Smith for no reason at all, then you would understand why many of Joseph's actions were in desperation. the trials were never fair, or according to the law, they kept him in prison for extended periods without a trial for no reason at all, and murdered many members of the church who were described as a friendly people. The people in the area were completely immoral and evil... especially those in government. Nothing they have record of was as it seems, none of it. Lastly, I never said it was ok to break God's laws, but way to twist my words...

Such a year-long low-light, high-moisture, low-ventilation environment breeds bacteria, yeast, fungus and molds which would ROT EVERYTHING. Could you endure 344 days and nights inside a barge with flocks of animals and supplies crashing around inside a urine-soaked LITTER BOX. Where did they get all their fresh water? Only ONE hole in the top? Gas pressure would resist air from entering.
“We say that God is true; that the Constitution of the United States is true; that the Bible is true; and that the Book of Mormon is true, and that Christ is true” Joseph Smith Jr.
Hi everyone! Im am new in Christian faith but i guess it is therefore more trustworthy if we go to the source "the Holy Word of the LORD" for we cannot lose Heaven just by being judgemental thinking ourselves better than others :) For the LORD has clearly had said in His word in Hesea .."my people is being judged and destroyed for the luck of knowledge". Let us therefore seek His devine wisdom who is above all things and His faithful councilor the Holy Spirit will teach us the truth and lead us to righteous path of life! God bless

As to why only one account is presented, there are many answers. The one in the LDS scriptures was revised by Joseph himself, making it a more official version, in addition to it being part of a history. Some of the other versions were written by others after being told by Joseph. As it is included in the "standard works", the common member (who are not historians) would be familiar with only that one version. I have not found any record of an LDS leaders stating there was only one version.
I love the church and its teachings, and most of all, Jesus Christ, the savior of the world. To those with bitter views of the church --I understand you have an opinion, can we just put off all this rubbish arguing until the judgment day? Besides, its best to have God showing us the right way than anyone else isn't it?
What exactly is a "bitter" view of the church? And why should anyone put off "arguing" their opinion until judgement day? Mormons have religious freedom and freedom of speech. So does everyone else. One person's freedom does not supersede another person's freedom. If you believe to know the Mormon doctrine to be true, then no amount of scrutiny should threaten that; so why ask other people to stop arguing their opinions? That makes you appear to be intolerant towards opinions different than your own. And when a precedent is established, it will reach back to yourself.
sorry to disappoint you tom but we believe in the same Jesus Christ as you do the very same one that is in the old testament so much so that we named our church after him. you may have a different interpretation of his teachings then we do but we still believe in the same Jesus. so because we worship him in our sunday services, we follow his teachings, we pray to him, and he is the head of our church, but most of all we named our church after him i guess that would make us christians.would it not according to the christians definition of a christian. sorry guys that were christian i know thats a blow to your system.
wow that was quite the rant you are good but a little bit to extreme in your wording which tend to give off a scary intense vibe. so maybe tone it down in your next rant and try to make it a little more tame. but overall great job.
I know God has always called Prophets (Amos 3:7) and is unchanging (Hebrews 13:8) and so calls Prophets today through revelation. I know Elder Holland is one of these Prophets and Apostles called in our day so we are not, "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:11-14) and we are, as Ephesians 2:20 says, "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone." That is fine if you do not agree, but consider your claims of Christianity when you are found fighting, using ad hominem attacks against those who simply exercise their First Amendment rights and Christian duties of proclaiming their faith.
TheJoeE71 You know it? Wow! That totally changes everything now that I know a random person on TH-cam "knows" it. I was skeptical before but now I see my skepticism was totally unfounded. ;)
Allow me to exercise my first amendment right. How do you know he is an apostle? Is it an emotional or a biblical basis for your knowing him to be an apostle?
I want to add my voice as another random person on youtube to say, I desire to contribute so much of my life to Prophets of God being on the Earth today. I follow them as any followers of Prophets in the days before and after Jesus was on the Earth. People have the right to believe what brings them peace and happiness. If anyone of us wants to share that reason for peace and happiness, and our belief that God is Real then... some may hear and believe and others mock what is personal. But what is more Christ like? Love, peace and hope or hate and name calling. Judge however you like... it makes no difference. I'm just trying to follow Christ and those he has called to serve. I do find great peace in that.
+TheJoeE71 Your words: ""I know God has always called Prophets (Amos 3:7) and is unchanging (Hebrews 13:8) and so calls Prophets today through revelation."" God has always "called Prophets"? That is so much Mormon garbage! Every ancient prophet was known to be one when (and particularly AFTER) he had prophesied and the prophecy came true. That's it. Nothing more and nothing less. Such an observation (of a prophecy made and fulfilled) demonstrated that each of those individuals had "the gift of prophecy", as talked about in the New Testament. The BEST illustration of this gift is seen by those who conscientiously read the story of Samuel, in the Old Testament. Samuel had the gift of prophecy from the time he was a small boy. No "ordination" there, JoeE, my boy! But, you are right! God is unchanging (Hebrew 13:8). So, it could 'never' be as you describe: as Prophets, anciently, were not 'called'.
@@1JohnMills If you are saying it is by prophesy of future events that prophets are proven you can look at historically verifiable accounts of the revelation predicting the American Civil War. Also God told biblical prophets to call repentance and to teach, that is a calling by the definition of being told to do something.

The exhibit will be at the Church History Museum of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. An additional exhibit of artifacts from LDS collections will be on display. Represented in the displays are items from LDS units within the National Parks Council based in Orem
Peace can only be obtained from within and cannot be bought or sold as it is in so many false forms. Our wars against our brothers & sisters are the outward reflection of profound inner conflict spawned within the lies we hold true. The answers to fix our problems will always remain simple=minimalism, symbiosis & self-sustainable living. Yet false illusions & greed restrain humanity from becoming one body united in support & peace. Your path to peace is different than mine yet we are still equals
Plz ask the Lord if what Jeffry R Holland share is true! So much people tend to believe in their own knowledge rather than the Master of the Universe. I know of myself that it is true.
At the 8:58 mark Holland says, "I think you have to go along and find these moments when you have this "priesthood issue" can surface." That's pretty butchered English, but it makes sense in context. In context he is talking about the restoration of the priesthood in the LDS Church. Can anyone pinpoint for me exactly when the Melchizedek priesthood was restored? The Melchizedek priesthood, not the Aaronic priesthood. I'm looking for a date. And documentation. Thanks!
The Church believes the Melchizedek Preisthood was restored by laying on of hands to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery from resurrected/translated Peter, James, and John. Which the church believes was given to them at the mount of transfiguration by the angels present there (to lazy to look it up if you need me let me know ;) )
@@MichaelBrown-rg8oi, Thanks, but you didn't answer my question: Can anyone pinpoint for me EXACTLY WHEN the Melchizedek priesthood was restored? The Melchizedek priesthood, not the Aaronic priesthood. I'm looking for a DATE. And documentation to support the date. Thanks!

On the contrary I have heard many pastor's admit that they along with the rest of us are sinners. From reading the comments I see so much slander against the church that is so untrue. It seems you google searched stuff and take it as fact. You hear someone say something bad about the church and you take it as fact. Here is the main point you will get from me if you comments on this about the accuracy of statements against the church. Have you truly prayed about it? How can you know for a certantity that what they say is true? I tell you only by the sprit can you know for SURE that they are. So pray. Have you even read the Book of Mormon? Do also, and SINCERELY pray. Don't give me some excuse about the alleged falseness of it so you don't have to read it. These verses don't match up, he said this it conflicts with that. Read it. And pray about it and know for YOURSELF. Moroni 10:3-5.
I wish what I say to not be taken as meaning any I'll will against you. I don't wish to argue about doctrine or throw scriptures at one another, first my challenge is for you to read the book of moron and test for your self if this gospel is true, as I sad in my comment. But I think this will clarify what you misunderstand as us thinking we are better than god. www.lds.org/topics/becoming-like-god?lang=eng
NOOBKILLER052 We have the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures. The book of Mormon, and what Joseph Smith taught is a false gospel. What spiritual benefit to me is a false gospel that teaches a false Christ? I've studied your Mormon doctrines, and I know quite well what your organization teaches about the next life. If I become a Mormon and go through all of your temple rituals, I will become a god. I will then take my celestial wives to the world that I will rule over, and will proceed to engage in physical intercourse with said wives, making "spirit babies" for eternity, just as you say Elohim did and continues to do. I have prayed about the book of Mormon. God told me that it is a lie from the pit of hell, and He told me that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, a blasphemer, an adulterer, and a liar. God told me that I should not read the book of Mormon. He told me that he will speak to me and teach me all I need to know about Him from the Bible alone. Do you believe the God of Israel was once a man like you? Of course you do, because Joseph Smith told you so. This is a blasphemous lie. If you believe this, you are most certainly not a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Put down the works of Joseph Smith and take up the Word of God. It's your only hope.
You said he told you to not read it, so you haven't read it? If so then you don't realize that all of our doctorine is in agreement with the bible. You do not know what the Book of Mormon contains. You can not tell me what message it contains when you have not read it. It is also not written by Joseph smith but translated by him. And I've never been taught that we will have our own planets or anything like that, they are speculations, if you can reference me to some teaching manual from the church site that teaches that that'd be great
Mr. Poffarl hand-carried the documents to the Yale University’s Beinecke Library, which has one of the best document preservation centers in the country.”2 The problem with this action is, once you have removed a document from a historical setting and then try to restore it to the same setting, you can’t prove that you have not altered the document.
Tom, could you provide legitimate references. Bruce McConkey would never say that. Furthermore, I challenge you to find one scripture from LDS canon, or even one contextually appropriate quote from a church general authority that says anything like what you are saying.
It's true.on BRUCE. BRIGHAM YOUNG said ADAM is our GOD for more than 50 years Mormons where taught and brain washed believing in this lie. Brigham young hated black people documented. Seriously. At no point since there was ever even a thing called "LDS canon" has it been true that Mormons would think or say that one should not form a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is so patently absurd that I am not sure why Tom Pearson said it. I literally don't understand.

Tom Pearson Could you stay on topic Tom? I originally replied to your original comment in which you said "[Mormons are told to] not form a relationship with Jesus Christ" Since then you have failed to provide any citations. This is because there isn't any. Good day.
"Not one red cent went" to proposition 8. Did he not know? or is he just lying? The church paid a fine for money that it didn't declare that went to prop 8.
+quintana1230 Not one cent went to it. The fine paid was for services. Most was declared time by church employees or travel expenses. They General Authorities travel and it is paid by the church. If they did anything for Prop 8 they declared the travel to Prop 8. Also they produced videos and other such stuff that was by church employees. So no not one red cent went to Prop 8. The fine wasn't for money they didn't declare it was for money they declared late by their mistake. It happens.
It's funny that he should chose to illustrate his point that "Someone has to have the authority to do sacrament" when sacrament in the LDS context is wonder bread and water served by kids.
Mr. Tom Pearson, aside from the hateful tone, a great deal of things you say are simply untrue. Why would you say that "he also said to his Mormon sheep you should not form a relationship with Jesus Christ?" That is literally antithetical to even the most basic and simplest of doctrines in the Mormon Church. Please at least do 5 seconds of real homework instead of relying on whoever told you these obvious falsehoods.

fast fact: unfortunately for the students of BYU, if you religion changes from mormonism, and you choose to resign, then you will be expelled from BYU and can never enroll again, even if you are an honorable person. It is strictly followed policy.
scott england I did not attend BYU and am not aware of its policies. However, it's a private, not public school and can do things like that. America has a thing called "freedom of association" in the first Amendment. I'm sure that students are told this information when they enroll. And lastly, considering the enormous amount of misinformation about Mormonism, are you sure this is current, or even simply a myth? Additionally, what has this to do with the current topic?
Mr. Peterson, You asked for references regarding LDS Apostle Bruce R. McConkie and his references to "not worshiping Jesus and not having a personal relationship with him". I am curious how you will respond to these quotes from Mr. McConkie. He was an Apostle, right? If you reject what he said you are an apostate. If you agree, what's your beef? Bruce R. McConkie was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when this devotional address was given at Brigham Young University on 2 March 1982. 1. We worship the Father and him only and no one else. We do not worship the Son, and we do not worship the Holy Ghost. I know perfectly well what the scriptures say about worshipping Christ and Jehovah, but they are speaking in an entirely different sense-the sense of standing in awe and being reverentially grateful to him who has redeemed us. Worship in the true and saving sense is reserved for God the first, the Creator. that is both improper and perilous. . . . Another peril is that those involved begin to pray directly to among us about our need to gain a special relationship with the Lord Jesus. . . . In an attempt to be truer than true [Christians] devote themselves to gaining a special, personal relationship with Christ It is no secret that many false and vain and foolish things are being taught in the sectarian world even among us about our need to gain a special relationship with the Lord Jesus. . . . . . . Another peril is that those involved begin to pray directly to Christ because of some special friendship they feel has been developed. In this connection a current and unwise book, which advocates gaining a special relationship with Jesus, contains this sentence-“Because the Savior is our mediator, our prayers go through Christ to the Father, and the Father answers our prayers through His Son.” This is plain sectarian nonsense. Our prayers are addressed to the Father and the Father only. They do not go through Christ. (Bruce R. McConkie, Church News, Page 5, March 20th, 1982)hat is both improper and perilous. . . .
August Zabriskie Well, here's what I say: I am not an expert on what Bruce R. McConkie has ever said, but when I googled "Bruce R. McConkie, Church News, Page 5, March 20th, 1982" I got exactly 5, count them 5 google results. All five were anti-Mormon sources. Additionally, one of them said it was a church devotional on March 2, not March 20th. And NOT ONE of those five pages has a link to the actual church news or talk, whichever it actually was. Is it possible that some of the words have been changed by those anti-Mormons? Please find me the original actual text, as I have ideas about how to explain this to you so that it actually supports what I'm saying. But I'm not going to do that if the only text we have is from 5 websites, all of which are anti-Mormon. when I searched for Church News on lds.org, I got this: www.lds.org/ensign/1982/03/news-of-the-church?lang=eng
Was the uploader in the class? I'm wondering how this audio was obtained? Or was it taken from another source. Thanks for whoever recorded it! Great questions. And yes--it still goes on, I'm sure, but it's not suppose to; everyone was counseled to only work with their family lineage. We just need everyone in the church to get on the same page.
I really enjoyed Elder Holland's remarks. I wish more of the media would be as open & honest as these were. It's interesting that I never saw this interview played anywhere, except here on youtube. I wonder why? It is also interesting to contrast his candor, insight & integrity to that of those who attack him & his people in comments & elsewhere. : ) I try to love everyone, there are many good people in the world & Mormons, generally, are among the most lovable that I've met : )
His comment about missions just being about doing any sort of good is a lie. Missions are incredibly stressful and the push to baptize and pump out numbers is absurd. I would never want my children to go through that
So when we look at reality from this persepctive we realise that things being tangible and measurable isn't the only way to know things. But as I said, we can't prove that those things we don't understand exist, nor that they do exist. And on that foundation, answering your question, I revere tangible and measurable evidence alot. And my faith is my way of perceiving what those things are which we at the present can't understand through our current mind tool. Hope this is satisfactory.
Netom Moten because... cult environment is based on population? Are you saying we need another word like 'super-cult'? To reflect its nearly 5 million regular attending members?
Netom Moten All blind followers. It is of Satan. Do not be fooled by the numbers of members. Numbers does not mean it is not a cult. Open your eyes! Read real Church History. Look at all the pride and greed, and lies, lies, lies. Get out of that cult!
We Latter-day Saints are just a cult? My gosh, then maybe soon all of us will be moving to Guyana and drink delicious Jonestown Kool-Aid while the Mormon Tabernacle Choir hums cryptic music out of the nearby hinterlands. Or, if like the Branch Davidians, then that will be one heck of a fire! Bring your camera then.
I can't imagine why? others who commented here seems so angry to the Church who never turn down any religion, who is so friendly and don't even entertain debates, and who is so helpful to those who are needy in the world without advertising. This is my questions to you who seems so angry to this Church. Whom do you think teaching you to angry one with another? Is it God or the enemy of God? Who do you think enticing you to find fault against one another? Is it God or the enemy of God?
"We are committed to the dignity of women...My wife where are you honey? Stand! stand!" Too funny. I guess what could have driven the point more is if he then would have said: "sit! sit! "
The earlier citations above concerning cains curse, was not from Brigham Young, but from John Taylor. So this is not a proof that such opinions would be scriptures. Brigham Young did clarify his message about his sermons being as good as scripture when he says that if his sermon are checked or corrected. it has always been the policy in the church that revelation needs to be checked by the 12 and be approved unanimously to be scripture, these discourses have not been checked nor approved thus.
***** Well, it certainly wasn't the Smith brothers who were the innocent victims. They were in jail for destroying the paper that exposed their evil ways. The Bible says not to kill, but Smith had a loaded gun and intended to use it to kill, not just to wound a few men. With all the angry mob there, there was really no reason to think it was self defense. I also have a problem with the translations of the Egyptian documents. He got the hieroglyphics totally wrong. If he couldn't read them right, he couldn't do the plates either. Besides, he was looking into his hat, not at the plates when he translated them into a language form that was no longer used. W When I hear of secrecy and using seer stones, it smacks of witchcraft. His seer stones didn't ever find him any treasures either. When things get to smelling that strong, there must be a skunk nearby.
+McKay Perkins Since Smith killed them first, he was the original murder. I was at the Mormon church the last two evenings. Nicer people are hard to find. It's ironic that a man of questionable virtues has created such nice people.
+Zack Jolie I don't want to go to heaven. God can't seem to be able to run things successfully here on earth, so why would he be able to manage things any better in heaven? Clearly, he likes suffering, wars, killing and bloodshed and makes everything die and rot in our graves or being eaten by some other creature. And he wants us to praise to praise him?
I think Thomas Monson should send him on a mission and then secretly marry his wife while he's gone. Ya know, just to follow the example lead by Joseph Smith when he sent apostle Orson Hyde on a mission and then secretly married his wife Nancy Marinda Hyde. God doesn't change. If it was righteous back then, it should be righteous today.
Lol, the Kinderhook plates? Are you really gonna even go on about those? Do your research. If you did some honest, humble research (instead of letting google preach to you), you'd actually have some answers.
I am not worried about the differing accounts of the first vision, because he told them at different times and in different settings. It is silly to assume that a person could recite a story--even one as life-changing as the first vision--exactly the same each time. There is a detailed explanation about them at lds.org under "Joseph Smith’s Recitals of the First Vision"
These are the only truths I've found for myself. If we can master these BASICS we've mastered LIFE. Some will even dispute these simple basics. The real question is the insanity of this"survival of the fittest" reality we live in which brings out the "darkness" in everyone. Your God set us up for inevitable failure just to bail us out so we can praise him & be his servants for ALL eternity? The less control or manipulation ANY organization has over you & your family the BETTER. Words of wisdom.
I looked over our conversation, but I can only find two things that could be considered "examples": the nine different versions the first vision, and Elder Packer's quote. Two is not several.
Faith without works is dead. James 2: 14, 18-26. There are many things that we want physical proof for, but God doesn't work that way. We have to read His words (scriptures) and pray and ask Him what is true/correct or from Him and what isn't. We have to think it out. God wants us to learn things for ourselves. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka Mormon) and I have done this before; that's why I am a member of this church. I'd encourage you to do the same.
I've met Mr. Holland personally and can say this...when he was with me I felt an overwhelming sense of peace.

Ooooohhhh. I sure hope you dont go through the eternities regretting dedicating your life to this sham of a religion.

Thank you. This is why I was baptized in this beautiful church! I am so humbled by this man.

Young Guava Oh? Please explain that one? How is doubt equaled to humility? And how is knowing something a form of pride?

Sure seems like it was up to an individual to know and to choose the next president (see the following: www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/10/02/what-story-brigham-young-tells-us-about-donald-trump/, Journal of Mormon History

You’re too stupid to argue with

Elder Joseph,
I completely agree that knowledge of truth is different from wisdom.
Your friend,
Aaron
Aaron McCombs " I don't know all the answers on the native americans and why historical evidence is contrary to what is written in The Book of Mormon "
Historical evidence is contrary because the book isn't a real history (it's made up and it contains the erroneus ideas they had at that time).
" I know that The Book of Mormon is true "
It's hopelessly erroneous with what we know of the origin of The Americas (New World) so I don't know how you have made 'true' to have a different meaning from what True really means.
Maybe you should say " I know I want it to be true but as it isn't, it doesn't matter to me because I like being LDS and it changed me for the better"
Jehovahs WItnesses can equally say " I know The watchtower Magazines are True, even if they have been hopelessly wrong for the last 150 years".
Sincerely EJ

James, in the New Testament says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
The last chapter of The Book of Mormon explains how to gain that knowledge. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
I have done what both James and Moroni said.
Aaron McCombs I can answer in two verses. Jesus said "God is spirit", and "a spirit does not have flesh and bones." Jesus 1, Joseph 0.
Joseph Smith was a Liar and a Fraud. The BoM is a proven Fraud and thus it makes this Cult Fraudulent.
He no more saw God, Jesus, John the Baptist or Moses than the Man in the Moon did! And that includes Moroni and the "Gold Plates,"
Pure Nonsense!

“We say, that the Constitution of the United States is a glorious standard; it is founded in the wisdom of God.”
Joseph Smith Jr.
excellent quote!
You don't understand that a lot of this was done on the run, from criminal government officials who went as far as to convince the U.S. government to exterminate the "Mormons."
Still, he could have never done what he did without real and lasting guidance from God and His son Jesus Christ.
Nelson need to receive another revelation ending the policy?)
Truly an man called from and inspired by God :)

Only ONE hole in the top? Gas pressure would resist air from entering.

“We say that God is true; that the Constitution of the United States is true; that the Bible is true; and that the Book of Mormon is true, and that Christ is true”

Hi everyone! Im am new in Christian faith but i guess it is therefore more trustworthy if we go to the source "the Holy Word of the LORD" for we cannot lose Heaven just by being judgemental thinking ourselves better than others :)
For the LORD has clearly had said in His word in Hesea .."my people is being judged and destroyed for the luck of knowledge".
Let us therefore seek His devine wisdom who is above all things and His faithful councilor the Holy Spirit will teach us the truth and lead us to righteous path of life!

Excellent Q & A by the Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
Great man
Great answers to significant questions. You can tell the level of education by the type of question presented
Awesome!!
Caleb T
Mormon's believe in a different Jesus Christ from the Christian's.
Tom Pearson
Well praise Jesus for being so open to religious freedom.
sorry to disappoint you tom but we believe in the same Jesus Christ as you do the very same one that is in the old testament so much so that we named our church after him. you may have a different interpretation of his teachings then we do but we still believe in the same Jesus. so because we worship him in our sunday services, we follow his teachings, we pray to him, and he is the head of our church, but most of all we named our church after him i guess that would make us christians.would it not according to the christians definition of a christian. sorry guys that were christian i know thats a blow to your system.
wow that was quite the rant you are good but a little bit to extreme in your wording which tend to give off a scary intense vibe. so maybe tone it down in your next rant and try to make it a little more tame. but overall great job.
Wow! I wish they would have had more time to ask more questions.
I know God has always called Prophets (Amos 3:7) and is unchanging (Hebrews 13:8) and so calls Prophets today through revelation. I know Elder Holland is one of these Prophets and Apostles called in our day so we are not, "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:11-14) and we are, as Ephesians 2:20 says, "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone."
That is fine if you do not agree, but consider your claims of Christianity when you are found fighting, using ad hominem attacks against those who simply exercise their First Amendment rights and Christian duties of proclaiming their faith.
TheJoeE71
You know it?
+TheJoeE71
Your words: ""I know God has always called Prophets (Amos 3:7) and is unchanging (Hebrews 13:8) and so calls Prophets today through revelation.""
God has always "called Prophets"?

+quintana1230 Not one cent went to it. The fine paid was for services. Most was declared time by church employees or travel expenses. They General Authorities travel and it is paid by the church. It's funny that he should chose to illustrate his point that "Someone has to have the authority to do sacrament" when sacrament in the LDS context is wonder bread and water served by kids.
Mr. Tom Pearson, aside from the hateful tone, a great deal of things you say are simply untrue. scott england I did not attend BYU and am not aware of its policies.

August Zabriskie Well, here's what I say:
I am not an expert on what Bruce R. McConkie has ever said, but when I googled

I got exactly 5, count them 5 google results.

His comment about missions just being about doing any sort of good is a lie. Missions are incredibly stressful and the push to baptize and pump out numbers is absurd. I would never want my children to go through that
serving a mission was the best thing that ever happened to me
So when we look at reality from this persepctive we realise that things being tangible and measurable isn't the only way to know things.

Your problem starts with "Mormonologist". Smith asserted that "The name Mormon was given to us by our enemies".
" As man now is, God once was: As God now is, man may be. -Lorenzo Snow (1840)"
