    after 5-6 years off bookings and music production due to studying, it´s interesting how much more you can find on youtube meanwhile. when we started around 2008, there was little to nothing online available to learn it. nowadays you can find how to do everything ^^ Edit: and crazy the amount of presets available for everything xD i find it nice to support artists, but overall not really necessary if you prefer to understand sound synthesis as a musician and be totally authentic

      yeah it’s totally different for newcomers these days. When I started off there was pretty much just isratrance and the other forums.

    I would absolutely love it if you did a few more of these bass videos about how you make the waves. I have both of your bass packs, and they're great, but the one thing I can't figure out is how you made some of the waves for the darker basses, and it seems like it's really the waves that make some of them sound the way they do.

    • @Kikudoxx
      @Kikudoxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of that modulation of the saw wave is done by multiband saturation with plugins like saturn 2

    • @ziqada598
      @ziqada598 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      color eq, multiband saturation and taking out some of the third harmonic plus a bit of EQ gives it a "darker" sounding body

    Do you have any idea why plz ? Could it be because I'm using ableton 12? (I've noticed that some functions aren't totally identical to the previous version).
    if not, it's not a big deal, just with all the previous steps it makes a crazy bass. Thanks a lot!

    How do fight the post-ringing from the processing that causes the notes to overlap with each other?
    Is resampling into audio and cutting the tails for those notes an option for this?

    • @MuteProduction
      @MuteProduction  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      in my opinion post ringing is actually not a problem. Phase shift is a good thing imo. But with these forest basses i am usually not doing very much to cause dispersion in the lows because it turns the lows into more a hum rather than a clear low frequency pulse with each bass note. To answer the question about cutting tails, I would recommend against totally cutting sample tails like that because it will just introduce very low frequencies that will ruin low end clarity. Instead if you **must** reduce post ringing then use a gentle fade or some release in the sampler to create a smooth fade out at the end of the sample. Do not be afraid of overlap between bass notes, it is *not* a problem.

    15:35 "I'm just gonna leave this Warm Tape on, because I've decided I kinda like it."
    Hahh, what I heard was "Cant pick one i like.. Fuck it, lets decide I like the default, easy enough. Now I can move on." (And I don't have Saturn so hence I assume Warm Tape is default since you say "leave" :) )
    And lovely tutorial man, super, it was very educational for me. Good explanations and A/B. And since I'm fairly new to "production" overall, still mostly in "trying to understand sound -phase" (cause I'm retarded in that way that, if I don't understand something properly, my mind kinda says "_______"), so the work in the DAW is fairly slow, haven't DECIDED (hehe!) I like the bass yet xD . So you connected more dots whilst also making them bigger, cheers dude, subbed.

    i think most of the magic comes from ableton plugins.
    because i tried to duplicate this in fl studio, but it doesnt sounds same.
    after you added note lenght plugin, it changed

    • @spiralmoment
      @spiralmoment ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's nothing magic about live's plugins. That just sets the note length. Just play around with note length. You could also use something like lfo tool or Kilohearts curve to make sure the notes aren't overlapping.

    • @Martin-vj7zx
      @Martin-vj7zx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MuteProduction thanks for the answer. in the frequency spectrum the frequences does they have to be all the same volume and slowly degrade or is it normal to have some lows very loud and some mids a little bit more quiet in the frequency spectrum. because in vb -1 it goes down very harmonicly but when i make baseline with a saw wave it goes down a little bit inharmonicly, like they are not all the same volume

    First of all, very interesting to mix the wave shape to bring in odd harmonics, and a solid tutorial as per usual!
    I have one question though, you use the velocity midi controller, but then set the minimum velocity to 127, effectively zeroing its effect.. why?
    I like the approach because it is very handy to not have to fiddle around with individual midi notes but rather have one automated knob that controls the velocity (genius by the way, same for the length) but why 127? your oscilloscope also shows no real velocity change on the first step.
    One small add, although there is little to add to this vid, but I found it also works great for more hi frequency rich basses like for hi tech (like VB-1), is instead of using a clean saw wave, use one from an old synth like for example the MS-2000
    Their saw also already has a beautiful color to it, creating even more unusual harmonics, a touch really gives it a nice crunch.
    I used the ms2000 from this one if anyone is interested:
