This is the sister album to Folklore...alot of the writing for both albums happened during Covid, and both albums were recorded at Long Pond Studios (owned by one of her co-producers, Aaron Dessner).
Taylor said that she couldn’t quit writing after folklore and her and Aaron just kept making music and created evermore. She released it 5 months after folklore.
Happiness was written for her friend's divorce. Acknowledging that even in the pain, it's a mutual thing, and there is happiness in their past and there will be again.
