There's one passive way of annoying aggressive players in highly populated systems. Pick a ship that looks menacing/innocent and triggers pvp guys and gankers, then fly as close to the star as possible without melting your face off. Turn around so that your rear points directly at the star and watch how people try to catch you and ram the star or fly past you without a chance of interdicting. I use it to safely afk in systems that are full of players.
yea I used the same strategy to avoid bot-interdictions as well when im full cargo... But I gotta give this one to the bots, sometimes they manage to catch me when I run from the star to jump.
Pro tip: bury your reverb cascade torpedos amongst salvos of packhounds and hatch-breakers. They'll never see them coming, plus their point defense will be super busy. Even better: do this whilst also popping a heatsink, deploying a SLF and jettisoning cargo. Then hit'em with a dazzle shell frag cannon. Their radar is gonna be super confused.
Pro tip: Low wake your escape from the ganker. As soon as you enter supercruise, kill throttle and de-activate your FSD. You'll drop out with a bit of damage, but won't have generated a low wake signal. Therefore you can no longer be pursued.
Sometimes, when i get killed by a Ganker, i buy a cheap Eagle, install a Interdictor and pull them out of Frame Shift as much as possible and fly around them like a small mosquito! :)

Guys I'm serious here, here's how me and a friend of mine griefs griefers: take an imperial eagle and engineer it to get to around 800 m/s boost speed and equip a FSD interdictor and interdict the hell out of them while you just run away from them continuously boosting until you can jump out in SC (this will get them very angry). But BE CAREFUL, you need to observe the system (we usually patrol in Shinrarta) and decide which one is griefing or not (you can role play and give them a private message). My name is Mayhem00 in game.
Done this as well. So much fun lol. Got both a viper and courier. The courier has also a long range size 1 long range pulse laser with bleeding damage, just enough to annoy people as they try to reach you lol.
how i deal with gankers is quite simple, i almost completely ignore them. you see while i do almost exclusively fly in open, i also main the cutter with ungodly amounts of shields. i've literally had greifers run out of ammo and have to retreat before. there was also this one hilarious time when i was auto docking and this guy kept ramming into me, he didn't have enough mass to really affect my trajectory and eventually exploded, becoming a smear on my unimpressed shields.
Engineered or alien tech or both? I'd like to do the same but kinda new to the upgrade stuff. Any chance I could get a look at your setup on coriolis.io/ ? Thanks
I've got a ridiculously fast I-Eagle with an FSD interdictor. When teams of gankers start camping Jameson Memorial or a CG, I like to interdict them, run away before they can hit me, jump out, and just do that over and over again. If they actually try to shoot you, they lose because you can invariably outrun them. If they try to ignore you, they lose because they won't be able to gank unsuspecting players while they're dealing with you. If then DO manage to kill you, they lose because your rebuy is like 15 spacebux, and you can just hop in another one and start harassing them all over again. It's particularly infuriating for them if you wait until they're lining up on a player who just jumped in, and you can snag them right before they hit the interdictor.
My secret trick to avoiding gankers? It's actually pretty brilliant, and not even considered an exploit! Solo and Private Group play. Because I'd rather be alone in a massive, cold, unfeeling universe than put up with someone else's shit for any longer than I absolutely have to.
Long ago, in Elite 2, we found a nest trick.. you could TRY and dock with the enemy. It was the PERFECT LOCKON. They keep trying to avoid you, and you are being DRAGGED behind all the way, Shooting at their REAR.. They spin around to catch you, and the computer would Swing you around also, and TRY TO DOCK..
You forgot about blocking them, which allows you to enjoy open while preventing said ganker to enter the same instance as you. They absolutely hate that.
Yesssss! Remember "Mythic Quest Raven's Banquet" S01 E03?`They dealt with Nazis by identifying them and crowd them on a separate server so they had to deal with each other. Be smart and don't invest too much time overthinking about griefers, just block them. The more people do this, the cleaner will be space and they have to deal with each other, NEVER seeing another "normal" player again. In my world that is ultimate punishment for such kind of characters. And it just takes a couple of seconds to do. And the best thing is, they won't get the attention they crave (that's why they are doing this) and will be separate from so many people if only 10% of you would do this (because of the instant-system ED has).
@@florbfnarb7099 I love how people who bring up the word dangerous only seem to care about the danger to others and not to themselves. There is nothing dangerous about interdicting a trade ship in a gank mobile.
I honestly don't see why there's so much hate for docking computers. They're useful tools. Not everyone actually enjoys the process of docking, or some of us just find it that much more meaningful to hit the autodock and wander off to snag a coffee, refill the water bottle, or grab a snack... I'd bet those same people are all "OMG, supercruise assist is"... Nah, it isn't bad. It's handy, especially for explorers (see previous comment about grabbing a snack). Won't stop the game from flying you into a sun or planetary rings though, so it's kind of like a Tesla Autopilot in that regard :P
About docking computers: You can stil have a lot of fun with the docking computer on. Just move your throttle to take control. It helps me remember to put the landing gear down (which is _another_ keypress that has to be timed on a fast approach) and the computer does a perfect landing if I gauge my speed right, much better than I can even after hundreds of landings in a burning station. And occasionally is messes up hilariously, especially when you push it to the limits.
Everytime i go to shinrarta dezhra i use my Viper with PVP modules named "Not a bait ship :)", the modules are not even engineered but i never got pulled out of SC using it, i see a lot of Fer De Lance's following and probably scanning me but none have the guts to interdict, those guys are jokes
Yeah but they know how see if someone is an NPC or player, they are looking for easy kills and someone flying around with a Viper with PVP modules must know what they are doing, so these guys avoid it because they are afraid of losing to a small ship
I love playing in open and 95% of the time i dont mind a (reasonable) pirate. but gankers are a pain. though.................... all of my main ships are engineered to the max....and minus when im in my t-9....they get quite an unpleasant surprise, such as when i kill them in a explorer conda... X_X and still fly away with most of my hull.
Ah, the glorious time of pissing off those weird creatures that make lots of weird noises and plague the open play in ED. It may be virtual, but the salt they give off is the stuff of legends. Great ideas, great descriptions, and great rivers of griefers rivers of tears. I guess I should try to play ED again, just for this.
Having a Type 10 with massive amounts of hull reinforcements, military hull & size 8 shields. Along with engineering them for tanking hits and throwing in auto cannons, plus a fighter gets most gankers to give up on me out of sheer boredom. Oh and point defense the entire way round. I used to guard a squadron of type 9 cows while they mined.
My speed viper has a docking computer - ganker rage ensured! My favourite ganker tip, fast ship, interdict them and run, interdict them and run... over and over again. For fun, attack them with a mining laser.
Exploit: Equip T10 with ****ALL THE PACKHOUNDS****. Watching them all impact is satisfying as f**k, additionally so when their GTX 1050/1060 slows to slideshow with each salvo.
Last time I baited a ganker I was in my iCourier. Pooped Ion and Reverb mines everywhere. I wasn't good enough to destroy his shield generator completely, but I just zipped away when I was starting to run out mines and shields. I imagine it wasn't very fun for them.
pvp, pirating and so on is all good as long as there are some rp and fun to it...but where there are people there are idiots, elite d is no different. But gankers only going for soft targets as lower ranked pilots in ships with no defense to it, is just pathetic and can only be cause they are not good enough to take on a fight with someone who knows how to defend and do combat. I will say though in shinrarta i had a fun experience, a pilot was ganking me and pulling me out of supercruise 3 times, apparently cause he claimed i did not say hi to him (bu hu), i did say i was not into doing combat with him, yet he continued and eventually did shoot me down. The fun part is the chat was in system chat, so others in the system chased him down and killed him several times. He got so pissed that he bailed out lmao...
I’ve noticed reverb torpedos work especially good against clueless cutter pilots that I can only assume think their shields are indestructible, the best part is that it seems none of them carry point defense either and choose to tank every but if damage instead of avoiding, and seconds later their shields are not only down but destroyed and they run

I'm only a month into the game and I can now land/ mailbox consistently without docking comp but honestly I kinda enjoy using it, it's like putting my feet-up for a chill after another 100 systems explored. :)
Drop out of supercruise just before they line you up to interdict you. You vanish from their scanner. If they find you jump to another system. Let them chase you to your fleet carrier, as soon as they attempt to shoot you your carrier wipes them out. Give them a civilised message saying "That was fun, cheers. See you around." right after they blow you up having not done anything to make it difficult for them. This last one works because most gankers like collecting salty messages with mental tears of rage implied in the text.
Having a disgusting amount of credits, the last time I got interdicted, I just stopped. Literally dead still. In system chat "I have more money than you could shake a dirty stuck at, have fun shooting a stationary Icutter." Sure he killed me, but it was boring for both of us and he got laughed at by everyone else. He never did that to me again.
I've seen ganksters stream on Twitch, ONLY using Packhounds with premium ammo. My solution? Three ECMS in utilities. That allows you to continuously fire the ECMS, one firing, while the other two are in different stages of reloading. You have 100% ECMS coverage at all times and every packhound, guided missile and limpet within 3000m is toast. It's also fun using this offensively in mining areas.

You also don't get the benefit of playing with friends or interacting with other players. I don't mind being pirated if the player is actually after my cargo and actually RPs it. I don't mind getting shot up if I'm running PP into an exploited system, or if a bounty hunter player is after any bounties on me. These are interesting interactions that make the game more exciting.
I always run away because I'm no combat pilot. My ships are all heavily engineered for defence so I can run away. Nothing can penetrate my shields or my hull but it does come at a very heavy cost to my jump length and manoeuvrability. I always use the docking computer. Love your channel.
I run advanced docking computer on my imperial eagle (and every other ship) because one time I potatoed into a station and forgot to turn flight assist back on and stuck against the side like a paper towel in a washing machine spin cycle.
I like to low-wake out, then immediately do an emergency drop once I get into supercruise, they'll overshoot it when they go into SC and will think the low wake is from the interdiction :P
my favorite strategy for messing with gankers is immediately flying into the black as soon as I drop on a star. After all, you can't catch what won't slow down
Or when you see one trailing you, pop into main menu before intradiction and relog. I can only imagine their faces. Especially if they were trailing you for a longer time
@@doommaker4000 eh I think staying in the instance but always being out of reach is a far more effective trolling strategy as I assume most wannabe gankers expect you to relog.
OR, a 100% foolproof alternative: Play in Mobius. Then you can play the game the way you want and don't have to modify your ships just to accommodate some rando who can't get it up unless he's ruining your day in the process.
@Java Monsoon Absolutely. Last time I played (Mobius PVE America group) it had over 1k connected players. That was about 3 weeks ago so unless something has changed drastically very recently, Mobius remains alive and well.
Mobius is for carebears. Ganking is cancer, I'll agree. But the handful of people who play actual pirates are fantastic. Also, BGS/PP should be completely off-limits in PGs or solo.
I was ganked for the first time in years a while back. An FDL pulled my Krait MKII out of SC. Panicking a bit, I just dodged his shots for several passes. I think I could have kept that up until he got bored and ran away. But I thought I'd try shooting back and my beam did nothing to his shields, and then I started taking hits. I didn't last long after that. I haven't played that much for a couple years, and don't care for PvP, but next time I think I'll just try dodging.
Another way to tick a ganker off is be good at the interdiction minigame. Never got ripped out of warp in my Clipper again after getting it fully engineered and practicing at community goals.
Step 1. Get Imperial Courier. Step 2. Equip light weight 1 packhounds and 2 medium torp launchers with reverb cascade. Step 3. Get your speed over 800 (you can still have decent resistance shields with E rated boosters) Step 4. You know own ship that can do several things from the list.
It's good for when you're watching or reading something else. And for the cutter-blob. I really don't like spending 15 minutes docking that tub, much better to let the docking computer handle it (even if it takes it twice as long).
@@LordRenegrade The length honestly doesn't bother me, I've landed at least every ship I own a few times and I just like the auto-dock. I honestly think it should be made standard because there's really no reason not to, people don't have to use it and it'll free up a slot. I personally think the "every ship gets an extra class 1 slot" option was just a pointless bandaid.
I once had a ganker pull me out, he was in a corvett I think and i was in a vulture. I was actually fast enough to get him out of view and radar range but his fighter could still keep up so I just kept shooting his fighter! He was probably so mad too. Happened in Shinrarta.
Some one tried to gank me in my fully engineered federal corvette with 1 fer-de-lance, 1 anaconda, and 1 viper MKIV. I just... slaughtered all 3 of them, and got called a hacker lol. Well, engineering was fairly new at the time, so I don't think they understood that I was just built different. Literally. No one has dared interdict me anytime else.
Build a t9 tank. No really. G5 prismatics, g5 boosters, SCB's, G5 dirties, all cargo turned over to HRs and MRs, armoured plant and FSD, etc etc. Call ship "Cargo runner" or something innocent. 4 pips to system. Jump into Shinrata. Submit, tank, low wake, SCB, submit, tank, low wake, SCB, repeat. Fly in straight line for bonus points. Repair if they have cascades (armoured plants will be fine if you have MR's). Alternate low wake for high wake for cutter wings.
Jazod Can and do. Only really have to worry about cutter / FDL wings (mainly for the plasmas). 1:1 - with a g5 armored plant and shielded fsd, you can tank damage while you repair. And when your shield comes back up, you’ve got 1000mj again.
Keep in mind I only play solo, but, what if a player scans you to see what you have. You have strong indications that they are a pirate and want to snatch your cargo. What if you turn on silent running as if to avoid their scan which basically encourages them to attack you, then they do. You let them destroy you (obviously be in a cheap ship for this), only to reveal that you had nothing. Maybe a few limpets or something worthless? Idk, I'd get pretty irritated if I had a notoriety for nothing.

if i dont have a docking computer how am i suppose to walk off to take a piss while docking? have you tried it without one? I mean they give you plenty of time to dock but they get all caught up on the little things like. "hey slow down." or "dont obstruct the mail slot" or "thats not your pad. no loitering."
Kinda risky method but works so far even against FSD disablers and Reverb Cascade spammers. I engineered everything on my Cutter both hull and shield survivability wise i just boost away and if they disable my mobility i just log out. The cutter with this build can take enough punishment to survive the logout timer. Oh the hate messages i get afterwards lol.

Still haven't played Elite: Dangerous. I finally bought it, but haven't had time to try it yet. Back in the late 80s I played Elite, you know, the precursor to E:D. I always had a docking computer. There almost wasn't a day I'd piss off an entire fleet for some reason (whistling innocently) that was way beyond my ability to take out. I'd go full speed to the station and at the last second slap the autodock. Instantly safe inside station. I know it doesn't work that way now, but I'm sure I'll find other ways to cheese the systems. ;)
I find flying non-paper builds and working on my poor combat skills to simply go "lol" when interdicted, see if I can kill them, and then leave at my leisure if I am at a skill disadvantage. They don't seem to expect that. I was interdicted by a Mamba at an engineer in my alt recently, and honestly, just because my alt says "Competent" doesn't mean that is how my ship is outfitted nor my skill level. Also, +1000 on the advanced docking computer. You can fit it and then turn it off to save power or to avoid waiting around for it to leave or dock, but it is still there and it seems to be a trigger for many gankers. I don't go to Jamesons often, but when I do, I have the Advanced Docking Computer and deliberately dock with it to really set folks off. But I return to working on improving as a fighter and outfitting ships properly is probably the best way to annoy gankers. They like to seal club and don't like it when the other side can return massive firepower and survive for a while sitting right in front of serious weapons.
listen here... if you really want to grief gankers get one of the speedy ships and put shock mines with ion disruption (Experimental munitions capable of disrupting a target's drives, causing them to reboot.) all it takes is 1 hit, can also just put shock mines on all hard points.

Don't understand the probs u guys have with docking computer. I know its one of the ways u guys try and fit in with the "pro's" by saying u hate others using it, but it's a tool like anything else in the game. Sure you wont fit one on a combat or exploration build but otherwise why not? I remember the sheer joy of first FINALLY getting the DC on the original elite in the 80s (was expensive to buy and hard to find then) and being amazed. Sure AI is old news these days but being a SPACE ship SIMULATOR I think it has a place as its set in the future and flyby wire or docking computer is bound to be a thing. Plus love the 2001: a space odyssey reference. The feeling of sheer luxury as u sit back and answer messages or check inara etc, while ure ship flies itself. Now SUPERCRUISE ASSIST is different, handy for a quick afk but otherwise it's soooo slowwww, makes u a sitting duck. I go everywhere full speed SC until I hit about 200-300ls away from target (depending on how fast I'm acctually travelling) then hit the Throttle to 75% key (using voice attack in my case) which is fastest u can possibly fly towards destination without overshooting, then I (if needed) arch my trajectory out and in towards the station (if its orbiting a planet or moon) so that I'm coming in towards the station and the large mass of the planet is direcrly behind it, that way u minimise the effects of the gravity slowdown effect and come in FAST but without overshooting. It often foils pve pirates but I digress. I tell new players who join the squadron to fit a DC if they can spare the slot but to fly SC as I've described.

Yamiks: "Install a docking computer."
CMDR Tianfang: "I FEEL PERSONALLY ATTACKED!"
My secret trick to avoiding gankers? It's actually pretty brilliant, and not even considered an exploit!
Solo and Private Group play. Because I'd rather be alone in a massive, cold, unfeeling universe than put up with someone else's shit for any longer than I absolutely have to.
You can also blockem all. It's like a Pokémon game
@@doommaker4000 how do you block a player
1:31 - I smell some CrimsonGamer99 tears in the air
They get super salty about the idea of blocking. Saying it breaks instancing, or it's exploitative. Amazing.
RevA ngel - Awful lot of people crying about there being risk in a game that has the word “Dangerous” literally in the name.
@@florbfnarb7099 I love how people who bring up the word dangerous only seem to care about the danger to others and not to themselves. There is nothing dangerous about interdicting a trade ship in a gank mobile.
@@agonyaunt6325 But man, it's so hard to kill a type 9 in an engineered FDL :(((
I honestly don't see why there's so much hate for docking computers.
Everytime i go to shinrarta dezhra i use my Viper with PVP modules named "Not a bait ship :)", the modules are not even engineered but i never got pulled out of SC using it, i see a lot of Fer De Lance's following and probably scanning me but none have the guts to interdict, those guys are jokes
gankers don't usually go after npc's
Yeah but they know how see if someone is an NPC or player, they are looking for easy kills and someone flying around with a Viper with PVP modules must know what they are doing, so these guys avoid it because they are afraid of losing to a small ship
Viper's are hard to lose to in prismatic fdl's, unless the person you're fighting is new. Not to mention it's difficult to die in PvE.
A well engineered Viper and a good pilot in the seat can do wonders, i once saw a guy defeating a cutter using an engineered Sidewinder
You can beat a badly built ship in anything. You will not beat a decent pilot in a sidewinder or viper.
Just two hand your greatsword and hit the poise button.
not so efficient in Dark Souls 2 :P, DS 3 is better, but the best was in DS1
@ ds3 has no poise though? Unless you count the perserverence weapon art but that requires FP after some time
@@redmoon383 it does, but it's nothing compared to DS1, DS2 is even worse, tank builds in DS2 are so ineffective without gimmicks.

Ah, the glorious time of pissing off those weird creatures that make lots of weird noises and plague the open play in ED. It may be virtual, but the salt they give off is the stuff of legends.

I unironically use a docking computer just because I can't be bothered to do it myself when the game can do it for me.

Edit: Sorry. Looks like it'll go free on October 27.
It's not 100%, there were instances of "suicide bombers"
Okay i didn't saw the 'rubber banding' in action before but seeing this is hilarious....
But also a kind of scary to see the game in this state...
Step 1. Get Imperial Courier.
Step 2. Equip light weight 1 packhounds and 2 medium torp launchers with reverb cascade.
Step 3. Get your speed over 800 (you can still have decent resistance shields with E rated boosters)
Step 4. You know own ship that can do several things from the list.
So that's what this game has devolved in to: ganking the gankers and griefing the griefers. Good job FDup.
Entertainment is where you find it I guess.
Seriously this video deserves an award i love listening to it for laughs
I put a docking computer on all my ships, even my Eagle, just because I'm too lazy to do it myself and I think automated docking is cool.
I do it just for the music
I once had a ganker pull me out, he was in a corvett I think and i was in a vulture. I was actually fast enough to get him out of view and radar range but his fighter could still keep up so I just kept shooting his fighter! He was probably so mad too. Happened in Shinrarta.
How I avoid gankers? Having a ship that leaves the bubble in two hops hehe
Park in front of the star!
Best idea is to go for the c-c-c-combo! Type-10 torpedo boat with reverbs AND a fighter.
Too slow, and boosting away from tor's is easy for half the ships on G5 dirties.
Pythons masslock type 9's
and you won't tank through pythons a lot of the time
plus feedback cascade
Jazod Can and do. Only really have to worry about cutter / FDL wings (mainly for the plasmas). 1:1 - with a g5 armored plant and shielded fsd, you can tank damage while you repair. And when your shield comes back up, you’ve got 1000mj again.
Oh my goodness I actually laughed pretty hard at this one and it makes me want to try at deciat with a friend
Friendship Drive Activated.

I know it doesn't work that way now, but I'm sure I'll find other ways to cheese the systems. ;)
I also owned the original elite in the 80s the first ever truly 3 dimensional game (though wire frame graphics). If u liked that ull love ED

I never thought about using healing beams on a wing mate back and forth until the ganker's head explodes. Fucking awesome.
