Yo, Sunflower! And thanks for the analysis ^^ I'm currently working on the third part of the series. First of all, to answer to your question: yes, the weird text in the description is totally decipherable. And the key is in the video. the "I let you logs in the river" quote may be used as a hint and I think it fits pretty well to this case (this quote isn't the key, tho). Good luck to anyone who can resolve this part! Then, I wanted to say you've missed two hidden texts (I agree, they're within a few frames to notice them). The second text is more a confirmation of something than anything of deep-lored, while the first is... interesting and can bring a new interpretation to one scene (and both interpretations are valid). And finally, pretty good job with video editing! Sooo, see you all next time!
Hey! Thanks again for creating the Black Sun Tapes, I can't wait for part 3 Ah so it's decipherable and I missed a few screens, I thought I was so thorough with finding everything! I'll have to take a look at everything again and make a follow up comment on this video and address it in the next one. Glad you enjoyed the editing :]
@machtalaterrouge it's not really anything different per say, it's the same as any other personalized mario copy sort of deal. It's just "what if it was disturbing and creepy". The' does a fantastic job with it's world and overall themes
@@Lmafaooo I see. I agree The' is very well made (it's one of my favorite horror romhacks, honestly). But you don't answer to my question. How could I improve my series? Let's imagine you're making an analog horror (or digital horror) on, let's say, SMS, on what base you're using to create the world, the characters and the story? Like what would happen if Nintendo kept the personalisation AI for the Gamecube (like my series) or on any console? What could happen if everything go wrong à la Grizzco Tapes? Or how characters react to a deadly and weird virus like in a lot of MLP fanfictions? Honestly, I'm curious to see what you would advice me to improve my story.
Looking past the whole "haunted video game" aesthetic, the underlying concept of a world that was created, had its core stripped out and then was callously tossed aside by its creators, with no thought given to the slow wasting death that it was condemned to, is a very terrifying one when explored in depth.
American names work with N64 based personalization ARGs because Argonaut and Silicon Graphics were instrumental in Nintendo making the leap to 3D graphics. There would not be a Jonathan working on Mario Sunshine's AI...
Exactly, at that point the team was entirely Japan based. The only westerners working on Sunshine would be translators and VAs, no one actually making the game.
@@SammEater I just realized I didn't change "american" to "English" before I hit post and now I'm ashamed of a comment I left two fucking months ago At least I was right
That's true. Just hire a Japanese voice actor, random guy making an analog horror arg, likely having 0 budget. He probably did that so he could do something other than Generic TTS Voice over blue screen. When you're watching series made on shoe string budgets, you'll have to accept some level of immersion breaking.
@@cherrypopscile3385 *facepalm*. way to attack a strawman. This isn't about voice acting, it's about writing. Instead of the voice memo being recorded *by the guy who programmed it*, have it in universe being read off as correspondence between a former Nintendo programmer from Japan by a former NOA localizer.
So a grassy field is a "plain." An aircraft can be a "plane." The third option in a similar spirit to the first is a "plane" or empty space in which something can rest on. When you gragh out points in geometry, the grid is the plane. When you create polygon sprites in a sandbox game builder, the space you build it in or resting on to give it orientation is a "plane." The universe is made up of matter ever expanding like water spilled iut on a table or flames from a central ecplosion. This means SOMETHING different of spacial substance lays ubderneath and beyond its borders. This would be the existential plane as it is the plane on which the universe and all other existance would rest upon. I feel this latermost homophone is most likely what is being referred to.
Preeeeetty sure "Divine words" refers to programming code, as that's what would give the ai/characters purpose and direction, as well as restrictions on form and behavior- without it, they wouldn't know what to do, and that's why they become distorted. When I heard "black sand" in this context, I immediately thought of static, since static is sometimes described as "gritty". While static is merely a visual phenomenon for us, it might actually be a "physical" occurrence for those in the machine. It's also well known that when electronics decay, artifacting or static may start to appear- if this world has been abandoned or damaged for so long, it would make sense for it to begin to sink into static, or "black sand".
I love channels like this, gives me that vibe that Nexpo gives me and i love it. Any viewers or sunflower himself give me any more TH-camrs that have the same editing and quality as sunflower and nexpo
Using character AI I got mario to torture bowser jr, while being gaslighted by peach, show him peach isn't real and that was him talking, and that he was a god but was hit in the head, resulting in memory loss, despite everyone knowing he was a god
Without the horror themed, I wonder if we will ever reach a point where an actual AI can make a personalized game to whoever is playing it. That does look like an actual cool concept.
The only thing I don't like about this type of creepypasta about games is that they make even the "in universe" presentations creepy, like that Dolphin one, no one would make a video like that to be shown in a meeting with devs with a "creepy music" soundtrack, it would probably be just like an instructional video. I know that this video is "technically" being "distorted" but even then it looks too far fetched, it needed to be more grounded in reality with a slightly unsettling feeling underneat and more technical terms instead of all that mythology and philosophical talk that makes no sense for a dev to say to another dev making a game (or an AI). Either way, I like this one.
Hey, Sunflower, I think I got most of the words at 19:43 of your video about the tarot card, the red text says "It is said the Watch Dog is the Guardian of the Laws, keeping the unborn spirit of the Drowned in Red alive, mind broken, only eternal scholar.", as for what it means, that is for us to find out.
i feel like analog horror has just reached the point where its all the same (Loud noise with flashing images means scary) like i cant take any of it seriously when its about mario sunshine and how its somehow related to majoras mask???? like none of this makes any sense and is insanely cheesey
@@Sunflower41XD oh cool! Hey I know you've been only talking about analog horror stuff on TH-cam but there's this digital horror game called Last Seen Online, thought you might like it and give it a shot shot maybe?
This ARG honestly feels a bit cliche and unoriginal, it's not really anything new that I haven't already seen before. I've been really tired of the VHS analogue horror style for a while now, and the "Mario is personalized thing" has been overdone for like a year now
Idk why people are disagreeing with this comment, in my opinion, op has a point, I've seen a lot of these types of mario 64 analogue horror esque videos and while it's not bad that they exist, it's just they're overplayed and some people haven't seen much new being done with these.
I feel you, I think Super Mario 64 back around 2020 did it best. 4 years later and we're still stuck in the mud with this kind of topic. An ARG around Super Mario Sunshine sounds good on paper and there's plenty of potential regarding it's developmental history but this one just felt like a copy-paste of SM64.

The 3d animation from this arg is really nice and different from other ARG.
Great video essay. I never heard of most of these without your channel.
