Thanks for this clear, informative D.I.Y video on this job! Looking a getting a 75 CDT soon and this would be the first job I do on it, along with a service and scuttle plenum drain check. This looks like an easy, satisfying d.i.y. I have a 2004 Audi A4 tdi with 273,000 miles on it, had it as a daily for 4 years. The first job on that was to clear the plenum drains too, sloshing with water!
@RobsonRoverRepair - I will be keeping the Audi as well 😁. Both will be used daily. The CDT I'm hoping to buy is a 2003 with 96,000 on it. MOT just expired but honestly looking at the history I can't see it failing on much. Looks great but recently had one sill welded and other one will probably follow suit soon. Not too big an issue for us. I've heard these CDTs would easily see double that mileage if the rest of the car can last long enough. What would you pay for a 2003 Classic SE CDT with 96k, some history, no MOT? Cheers
^^^ Well I bought it. Saw it in the flesh/metal beforehand and heard it running but couldn't test drive it as it was at a classic car auction, took a chance on it. Seems like a genuine well loved car, tidy all round. Same old boy owner for 20 years! Drove ok the 2 minutes to my house (no MOT yet so not driving it around further just yet). Just been doing the pcv upgrade, plenum chamber clean out and pollen filter. No sign of flooding thankfully. Your guides were excellent, thanks. The rest of the engine service items are less than 500 miles old with invoices to prove so I'm leaving them alone. Booking mot next week. Once it passes I may fit a Ronbox with pierburg maf, heard it recommended multiple times and it's easy to do (or reverse!). That's if it feels a little too underpowered (115 cdt). I like the 75's charm so far though.
Just about to buy one so glad I found this nice easy to understand video. Often youtubers forget that to truly teach you need to aim at teaching a 10 year old. Well done.
Glad to hear it mate. Nothing worse than hearing about a size 15 discombubulator mating shaft and just having to assume it's the broken thing in your hand.
Believe it or not, my Rover 75 is right on 520 000kms (bought it on 160 000) and this is probably the first time I have to deal with this breather filter. Been doing all kinds of maintenance and repairs along the way but never got to this one yet so this video is very helpful. Cheers, Rob!
@@RobsonRoverRepair The goal is to keep it going on to reaching the full 1000000kms and it's thanks to guys like you and all these usefull vid's I've gotten this far already.
@@RobsonRoverRepair thanks! Still, I've got a long way to go to get to taking that one picture reaching that magical million. Biggest bugger for me sometimes is that bloody brexit which mostly upholds me from ordering stuff out of the UK.
Just recently purchased a rover 75 2.0 CDT w reg, and to be fair i was a little intimidated by the engine as I am used to older cars, and although she is 20yrs old , it all seemed very 'modern' to me. Im not much of a mechanic but have always serviced and done most of the repairs on my old toyota surf. Thankyou so much for your videos, they are helping me to understand and learn about my 'new ' car, and I am loving it more each day knowing that your very friendly and informative channel is there to guide me. Great job, please keep them coming:-)
W reg is pretty early example now days, early 2000, bet that's a nice Cowley example. The m47r is a simple engine, no fancy vnt turbo, simple to work on if parts are awkward to reach (thermostat etc), it's very much a in between as far as I'm concerned, being the bridge of mechanical and electrical injection. I'm going to do a few more videos on it soon, basic servicing etc, and as any of my fleet need it (crank pulley, injectors etc) I will do more videos. Preventive maintenance is the secret on these cars, not letting things break but planning in advance. I try and keep at least 2 services ahead for parts and bits etc. Ebay bargains galore etc. To many people want to upgrade or modify before they do the basic maintenance on the cars.
Great, looking forward to the new videos. I dont think this car has had much love judging by attempted paintwork repairs, but those bits i will leave until warmer months. Just interested in checking all the filters etc, and maybe do an oil change. Inside smells of damp so im guessing the pollen filter is wet, and from what ive learnt so far, the Plenum drains are probably blocked. @@RobsonRoverRepair
Yeah likely a car with smelly wet cabin filter if there's no water under the carpet. I like to get a new cabin filter, get the bag it comes in, spray it in essential / scented oil (10ml of vanilla or sandle wood pil scents suit the car imo) seal it up in the bag so it sweats the oil through and leave it for a few days before fitting it, then fit it, first time you switch on the air the car will smell fantastic and the oil . Brilliant for taking stale oder out of the car.
I watched your video awhile back and I've since tried places around Lancashire and Yorkshire for an E4 bit with no joy. Today I carefully used a 5mm scocket. Update Just fitted mine I bought the that ebayer and it took alot to fit the housing in place the far right bolt didnt want to go in so I helped it go in. The first thing I saw when sat in seat and ran the engine was the revs are now stable. Hopefully the oil will stop passing though the turbo and burning oil smell goes away. The garage which last did this pcv all they did was to take the breather part out that is shown in your video before fitting housing on and also damaged the oil seal. It's really helpful to us to follow step by step. Thank You :)
Clear , concise , patient and informative video....ideal for us first timers trying to service our own cars ...the wife thinks I know what I'm doing now 😉
Whilst your not going to transform the car, if its badly clogged up it will definitely help with the breathing and if the gaskets are worn it can also cause issues. Ultimately its a very easy solution to a problem that shouldn't happen but alas modern bio diesels are the culprit, same with dpf and egr failures.
@@RobsonRoverRepair Hahaha I am waiting for a tourque wrench to be delivered before trying to replace my 75s disc pads formthe first time....F Fit at standby
It's a great fit and "almost" forget solution. Depending on your oil change frequency and you can just buy the insert for £10 now it's very worth while.
Well my thoughts would be either they have been primed and the car wasn't started therefore system is at max pressure before you removed them. You should really only get a tiny dribble. How much are we talking?
is that a bmw vortex type? m47 same ...same engine.I have changed mine but still burning oil like crazy...I have oil smell and blue smoke when revving ...turbo has no shaft play at all. What can it be ?Power is fine ...but oil burning is making me crazy
@@RobsonRoverRepair Any idea why the oil burning and blue smoke when revving? It burns aprox 1 liter of oil every 600 miles.I switched from 5w30 castrol to 5w40 liqui molli ..no improvement...Can a new vortex filter be faulty ?..for me it seems to have too much blowby oil dripping in to the turbo from the pcv.
@@florentinamirela840 could be a lot of things, but this is where online guess work isn't ideal and you really need to take it to someone. Obviously straight away your into to possibly worn cylinders or piston rings. Let's hope not. Easier to just change a whole engine on a 75 diesel than deal with that. Obviously you could have faulty valves or valve stem seals as well or as an alternative. My first thought was actually was the engine oil too full but then you said its burning so much every few hundred miles. Maybe the turbo was starved of oil and actually the seals have worn enough not to fail but allow it to burn. Not enough for turbo run off but still. It could be a sign of the injector pump allowing engine oil to be mixed with the diesel but that would be a very worst case scenario. There's so many possibilities here and unless your really comfortable with tearing into the car to diagnose it, bring it to a diesel mechanic or a rover mechanic in your region if you have one. Even bmw technicians will know the m47 family of engines well.
Wouldn't recommend it, plus your wanting a good seal on unit so it fits correctly on reassemble. If they round out your drilling them out of the inlet manifold, if they snap or crack plastic well its new inlet manifold also as its quite weak in that area from heat cycles.

Audi is a hard car to step down from, a 75 has more character but I'd definitely try to find The lowest mileage example I could.

Just doing the pcv on mine. Mine was so blocked you could feel the pressure coming out the oil cap. I put a rubber glove over it and it inflated lol
Hi Robson, do you have any idea why the diesel started spilling when I took out the hoses from the injector? 🤷♂️
