Joost lost his parents as a kid, the song is a tribute to his dad. He promised him to make it, and now that he's 'made it', he's ready to leave his past in the past (the burning picture/house).
sorry for him that's terrible, but its not fair to mention such personal details of any artist who is about to compete because I believe some other competing artist might also had experienced personal tragedy and is not bringing it up in this context. The WORST scenario might be winning points over personal information and sympathy rather than song or talent. So please be careful what you write and how you present it
@@bojicc9miso Well it's very much intertwined. The song is about his parents watching Eurovision every year when he was a kid. Then, both his parents died when he was 13, and he travelled a lot throughout Europe, feeling alone in every country, dealing with his grief. His dad always said "borders exist only in people's minds", so that why this song is called Eurodad. It also incorporates Dutch culture, as the Netherlands was one of the first countries to influence today's EDM scene (with hardcore).
@@lwgg742 I get your point but it would be nicer to let audience interpret his lyrics and use their own imagination. Sharing the real death tragedy and gaining sympathy in that manner overshadows the song and the competition which is why I said it would be bad if points are given because of that fact. Best example is Portugal. Wishing you good luck!
@@amber2905 I would never think of someone's death tragedy after listening the song until it was brought up in the comments. The song is cool and catchy and with all due sympathy to this singer- that detail is unneccessary. All the best!
Joost Klein is Groot! He dedicated this song to his father who died when he was 12 years old. His dad taught him that the world has no true boundaries. His mother died when he was 13. He is a HUGE inspiration to young folks, he is such a legend. The world needs more people like Joost. He has gone through so many challenges in life it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with it. Joost Klein is Groot!
The story briefly is: his parents died when he was a kid. His father always said: the world has no borders. So Joost said: then I want to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest one day. After the death of his parents, he started searching for the meaning of life and relief of his pain by traveling, but never actually found it there. He gave people money (psychologists?) to help him, but it didn't work. Until he realized that he still had time and options to realize his dreams. After all, the world has no borders right? And so he did. The burning house represents losing but also moving on, in a positive way. Burning your bridges: no longer controlled by pain + sadness, but focused on your dreams. Without borders.
The happy hardcore style is composed/produced by dj Paul Elstak. For example rainbow high in the sky is from his hand (back in the nineties). Joost told his parents when he was little that he would be performing a the esf one day. In the end of the song he says: dad, I made it! It is a tribute to his parents/dad. If you really listen to the lyrics, it is clearly an ode to his parents who passed away when he was a child and talking about him running away from his pain without success. Europapa means 'Euro daddy' of course, but also: 'fortunately I don't need a visa to be with you' 'I've lost everything except time' 'I'm in Germany but I'm so alone' (in German) 'I'm in Italy but it still hurts' 'I'm running from myself, crying for help all day long. I even give money to people but there is no one to help me' 'Turn on the radio, hear Stromae with Papaoutai ( which means Daddy, where are you? in French) 'My father once told me: it is a world without borders. I miss you every day is what I secretly whisper. See, dad, I listened to you' So basically: wherever he goes, the sadness goes with him. And then that burning house at the end symbolizes the message to oneself of having to let go of that sadness and old memories in order to move on
its a sad song of him being lost after his parents died, covered in happy beats, typical behaviour for orphans, like me, and together with eurooa being awesome and never wanting to leave.
The thing with you guys and these commenting video's is that not nearly 25% of you are actually paying réal attention... Especially with a song with different layers and segments and a clip with a lot going on (speaking of cultural and subcultural references)... It's like asking a kid to review a movie > they'll miss so much... The track unfolds if you are paying attention, but all you do is babbling over and missing everything that could make your comments àfter the clip so much more interestening...

If you really listen to the lyrics, it is clearly an ode to his parents who passed away when he was a child and talking about him running away from his pain without success. Europapa means 'Euro daddy' of course, but also:
'fortunately I don't need a visa to be with you'
'I've lost everything except time'
'I'm in Germany but I'm so alone' (in German)
'I'm in Italy but it still hurts'
'I'm running from myself, crying for help all day long. I even give money to people but there is no one to help me'
'Turn on the radio, hear Stromae with Papaoutai ( which means Daddy, where are you? in French)
'My father once told me: it is a world without borders. I miss you every day is what I secretly whisper. See, dad, I listened to you'
So basically: wherever he goes, the sadness goes with him. And then that burning house at the end symbolizes the message to oneself of having to let go of that sadness and old memories in order to move on

its a sad song of him being lost after his parents died, covered in happy beats, typical behaviour for orphans, like me, and together with eurooa being awesome and never wanting to leave.

Maybe turn on translation when listening :-) now you missed most of the meaning 🙂
He burnt his past. Start fresh.
Pa Pa = Daddy
