I installed 22 of these flood gates in the past 2 years with a combination of a pumping system so when the flood gate is closed the water from outside back yard drains drains Into the pump first before it hits any of the plumbing fixtures. The rain we had yesterday not one of them got flooded.....these are the best back water valves on the market
Hi, great video but I have a question, can an above ground holding tank be installed to the mainline and used in conjunction with this device? That way when the gate closes, all sewage can go to the holding tank and then released once the floodgate opens back up.
I have one of these floodgate valves but it has not been exercised for at least 2 years. When I try to move the bellows using the screw-on handle, it does not move freely. I can get it to travel up and down if I really pull or push on it hard, but I'm skeptical that water pressure from a backflow event would make it move. Can a plumber restore or lubricate it, or does it have to be replaced completely?
Thank you so very much. There is a tool to exercise the valve up and down. That should be done about twice a year. Do you do that? If not, try it. That might free up the gate.
Living in queens this is awesome idea.. what is the average cost of this? Me and a couple of my neighbors are interested. Nyc should install backflow valves on each main.
A rough price for a knife edged flood gate valve is just under $10,000.00. Not every home is a good candidate, and each home can be unique. With that being said, we provide free and no obligation site visits. Hope that helps.
@balkanplumbing got it. I think we were talking about the back flow valve, it was in 1 of your videos and it goes on the sewer line. Let me talk to my neighbors and will give you a call if anything.
A sewer check valve is substantially less expensive to install. It usually requires the house trap to be replaced as well. A sewer check valve with a new trap costs between $3,700.00 and $4,500.00 in almost all cases. A check valve is meant for flash storms, not for a prolonged public sewer backup.
Do you know any plumbers near Hoboken NJ that can install this? I can’t find anyone willing to do it. Storms like Ida are becoming more and more common and this is going to be a necessity in the NYC metro area.
One issue if something gets between that Valve it's not closing fully say a baby wipe or another item some flush or say a NYC rat running From that flood trying to get into your property gets guillotined by that Valve your "S"OL with plenty of the "S" getting into your property 😮😮
Part of maintaining the valve and preventing that from happening is exercising the valve by closing and opening it a couple of times a year. That works.

Great comment, agreed. Question: After the water hits the pumping station, where does it outlet to?

While physically possible, I’m doubtful it would comply with any local plumbing code.

I’d suggest a site visit from a local licensed plumber. Impossible to give an accurate answer otherwise.
Great video. For some reason once my flood gate engages it doesn't seem to disengage even when the sewer line discharges

Thanks for reaching out, but NJ is out of our service area and of our professional contacts.
We're can I buy one
JR Smith manufactures them. They must be professionally installed. Not a DIY project my any means.
Estimate how much to install this in the bronx for 2 family house? Estimate is fine.
Typically if the sewer access pit is underground a legal and proper install is between $8,000 and $10,000 for a sewer flood gate valve.
anyone install in or near Bridgeport Connecticut?
I’m sure yes. It’s a JR Smith device. Just call a local licensed plumber. It has to be installed just right.
