I have watched many of your videos and others but I don't remember seeing anything about state regulations governing the raising or breeding non-game quail. Well, I have ordered my first eggs and called the Arkansas Game and Fish Department. (I live in Arkansas.) Little did I even guess that I need a breeders permit and an import license. Plus, I found the rules/regulations/laws governing the raising of non-game quail. This was an interesting education. I didn't know what I was getting into. Laws raising quail of any kind in Arkansas is not like raising chickens for your own use. In Arkansas, it doesn't matter what species of quail you breed or what you are going to do with them, you must have a breeders license and there are laws governing this. I'm not complaining about the $50 per year for this license, but raising/breeding quail for your own personal enjoyment or for a hobby is another story. This first year will be spent just getting my quail numbers increased and enjoying them. Could you spend some time stressing in your videos about learing the local laws before you invest? That way there will be no surprises for us new breeders. Love your videos. VERY educational, many thanks, Ron in Arkansas
Thanks Terry I'm looking in to starting raising quails & the docs will be great for record keeping (you have become my favourite channel keep the great work)
thanks for the spreadsheets, your effort is much appreciated. I run a similar workbook for my bees so it's nice to have all that time saved in designing/creating spreadsheets. Thanks.
Thank you coturnix corner Sharing this for free and saving people a ton of time, it was going messy with me and now you put me on track again. Raising coturnixes 3 months ago and did 2 hatches one with 88% hatch rate but unfortunately more than half of the chicks died and the other one was of poor hatch rate, researching now to fix the issue and those sheets could help alot
@@CoturnixCorner the high mortality was a mix of non reliable conditions Very poor genetics Bad bedding (wood shavings with small particls in) Lack of protien Autumn flaxuation in temp I changed everything and built a new brooder The poor hatches are also due to the weak chicks genetics as i guess thus the first hatch was high rate under same conditions
These are great. If you don't have Excel, you can upload the spreadsheet to your Google Drive and then go to docs.google.com/spreadsheets and it will be there, you can edit it right there online and it saves automatically, so you can access it from any device you have.
Another great video Terry, thanks ! I was planning on keeping pen and paper records but your spreadsheets are very nice and make it easy to find info at a glance. I'll definitely be giving this a try. You sure do collect a lot of eggs, do you sell them?
Thanks for commenting! The measurements for my layer cages are 76" wide X 24" deep, plus another 6" for the floor extension so I can collect the eggs. The slope measures 4" at the back of the cage and 2 1/2" at the front. Make sure you leave enough room for the waste trays to slide out.
I know it's been awhile so you may not reply but I can't seem to find the downloads for the excel sheets. These look awesome and would definitely help out immensely. Have they been moved? Thank you
I only kept about 65 layers at that time so the 1800 is in the ballpark of eggs that I would get in a month. Actually, the number of eggs that I get now are even lower due to my culling of all my older hens. I have cut back on production until the virus and stay at home orders are lifted. New chicks are in the growout now to replace the culled hens. Thanks for the comment!
I like how You work, but: I have Quails because I like the taste of the eggs, the eggs oft he chicken that produce the most egs, have less taste than the packing material from conrad electronic - I know that a lot of stupid people do only pay by kilogram, but I don´t realy like that, I prefer the tast of herbs in my eggs.
Thank you so much I was looking for something exactly like most of this. Newbie just starting so this was great!

Thank you so much for the quail spread sheets. They will be helpful. I hadn't thought to keep track of how many eggs come for which cages. Great idea.

Thank you for the comment! Poor hatch rates and chick mortality does happen, I hope you find the issue. Glad the record keeping sheets will help you.
@@CoturnixCorner the high mortality was a mix of non reliable conditions

Thank you for sharing your documents! I've saved it and made it my own. 😁
Thank you so much for the video you put out the really helpful especially for a beginner like myself

Thank you! Yes, I do sell eggs locally for eating and a few hatching eggs to local 4-H clubs. I probably eat as much as I sell, I love quail eggs :)
Excellent video! You pointed out items that I hadent thought about. Im already a subbie, but I will recommend your website highly!
Thank you very much Sally, I'm glad you enjoy it!
Very interesting data, thank you!
Thanks for the info glad I found your channel
Thank you!
Thanks, sounds extensive on keeping records.
Another great video Terry. Do you have measurements on your big cages and how much slope do you have for the egg rollouts

hi I need to know what is the layer performance % ,
how many birds per cage?
@cortunixcorner. How many incubators do you hv running?
Cool thank you
Very helpful indeed. I'm curious as to how many quails you have. 1800 eggs per month seems to be a bit on the lower side?

@@CoturnixCorner Ah okk, makes sense.. Thank you so much for sharing the info. Appreciate it :)
do you still have the documents available? your website seems to not exist anymore :(
I’ve been jotting info on a calendar. This is better.
Hey I cant seem to get the links to open?
Where are you located? I'm in Fort Lauderdale and I'd like to buy some eggs so I can start raising quail again.
I'm in Fort Myers
Hi Terry, what does the column "Strain" actually mean? Is "Mixed" another name for Coturnix? I'm new to quail and not sure of everything. Thanks
Strain is just the origin of the breeders, like Myshire Farm, Kansas City Quail, etc
@@CoturnixCorner Ok, so they are all Coturnix, just different names depending on what the are crossed with

Hi Terry. What type of spreadsheet do you call that where it calculates for you?
Excel spreadsheet, Link to the files are in the description.
@@CoturnixCorner Thank you! Worked wonders! Your videos a so influencing!
Whoa! Did I read that right??? Did layer 1 produce 15 and even 16 eggs a day in the first few days of august with only 12 hens?
These are sample spreadsheets. Good eye though ... thanks for commenting!
Hi,
I am from India
What is the process to collect eggs for hatching
How many days store at what temperature.
Sir,
Would you happen to have a database that tracks your monthly cost associated with raising the birds?
Currently I am using Quickbooks to track my cost, but I am working on a new spread sheet that does just that and will make it available when complete.
@@CoturnixCorner is this available for download yet?
why wont the links work to download sheets
Works fine for me
@@CoturnixCorner when i click on them it just flashes and closes
How do I get the spreadsheets?
Thanks!
@@jasonclement9166 There is a link in the description.
I'm not seeing the link.
I downloaded to my phone and it won't let me open it
Terry I found the spreadsheet but it saved to my computer (IOS) as record keepting.rar and will not open. Do you have any other way to share it
There should also be .zip files linked in the description
