Fine effort. It's had an undeserved "bad rap" from some folks here. I refuse to accept most of the criticism. These talented young singers deserve recognition and encomiums--in my view especially the male leads and Elvira. Having seen the great August Everding prod. of Don Giovanni on stage, I can still appreciate the advantages of this approach: modern dress and minimal sets; vide the famous Gielgud Hamlet prod. w/ Richard Burton. More opera should be done this way: less "gimmicky" and less distracting. But, as musical and convincing as the singers are, it's the musical direction that makes this Don especially revelatory. Bravo! Honorable mentions: the Anna-Ottavio duet in Act I, the Trio in the beginning of Act II, the Don-Leporello-Statue Trio (most Leporellos lack Mr Torbey's heft in the lower register) and Mr Dubruque for creating a Don that isn't slimy or unctuous.
Several operas have already been composed in Prague, "Don Juan", and the last in 1787: "Don Giovanni Tenorio" by Giuseppe Gazzaniga (Giuseppe Gazzaniga, survey: 5.02.1787). Amadeus received 100 ducats (in advance) to compose his "Don Juan" for the Prague opera (survey: 29. 10. 1787). By evolution, grinding, Gacanigin's Don Juan became Mozart's Don Juan!
The interesting in this performance is that the orchestra is small, and sometimes one can hear interesting harmonies. Otherwise not an enjoyable, the singers are not prepared for their roles vocally.
Only reason I ever wanted to look back at opera ( parents loved it). "Amadeus" was the reason, NOT their painful attempts to class up my sister and I. She lost her shoe over the balcony edge!!!! I just finally wanted to get out of there .
Why do the singers need to snuggle up against one another, crawl on one another, men pawing women and waggling between their legs.. ? Does this have anything to do with the Mozart's music? Does this add any value to the piece? Is this really what today western public require? Why do you use divine Mozart's music for this very earthy, uncomfortable and unnecessary display?
Way too slow! Almost plodding. It lacks energy and excitement. I can't imagine sitting through the whole thing. Good singers, though. This production needs a different conductor.
High quality recording. I like this.
Don Giovanni, Elvira e soprattutto l'orchestra. Grazie

Leporello is a bit thin vocally...but lovely nonetheless.
Thin vocally -- dont hear that.
No timpani????

The dance scene in the last act is embarrassingy silly.

welcome to Generation Horny
Первый раз слышу, что Лепорелло поет тенор...
Лепорелло поет здесь бас-баритон. Это Вы его с Доном Оттавио перепутали...

Probably the most ridiculous directing. staging, costumes, and singing of Don Giovanni, ever.
n00b. you clearly haven't seen the likes of Bieito, van Hove, P. Sellars, Guth, Kusej interpret Don Giovanni. this is SUPER TAME in comparison.
