    Great video as always here in Louisiana we eat allot of black drum fried, blackened and on the half skin but we rarely keep anything over 20" cause of the parasites

    • @TKOutdoors

      That's probably going to be my rule too, less than 20 inches. We were pleased with the taste.

    Haven't tried any saltwater fish. However, fresh water drum are really good. A lot of people call them trash fish but I'd rather eat drum then catfish. My list has a bunch before either of them but they make the list.

    • @TKOutdoors
      @TKOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No doubt there are a lot better fish on the list before these.

    Doesn't everybody eat black drum??
    We certainly do here in Coastal South Texas.
    You don't want to eat the overly huge bridge monsters but the ones that are about keeper size if they were redfish are tasty.
    I've grilled, baked, pan be fried and deep fried it and it's pretty darn good.

    • @TKOutdoors
      @TKOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No one here eats them because they think of the wormy big ones you describe. I also think the smaller ones are like redfish.

    • @christianoliver3572
      @christianoliver3572 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TKOutdoors We've got a couple of restaurants here in Corpus Christi where you can take a whole cleaned fish whether it's a drum, a redfish, trout, even a red snapper and they'll season and fry it for you.
      They bring it whole to the table for you with choices of sides, tortillas and salsas.
      It's kinda like a pig picking but with fried whole butterflied fish.
      Some folks - not me - make ojo tacos or eye tacos. Generally this seems to be something from our brother culture that's considered a delicacy or a prize for the successful fisherman.
      I don't mind keeping the head on or eating the cheeks or certain species but no tacos de ojo para mi!!
      I've never seen any of their fryers but they've got to be huge.
      Maybe this is just a TexMex or regional thing as I've only seen it here and on the Gulf coast of Mexico.
      But I do enjoy the black drum.

      @TKOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TKOutdoors I've always thought that was funny for people who like to fish.
      If you can catch it, scale it and gut it well that's about as personal as it gets for most Americans as far as our 'food chain'.
      But I understand where you're coming from.
      I like to keep the heads and bones of what I catch and I freeze them until I have enough to make either a fumee (for this I usually use only flounder but sometimes I'll use some skate as well) or for the larger gamefish I'll make a sopa de mariscos and it'll also contain roasted shrimp shells and maybe even crab shells or roe.
      It's a great way to make an amazing meal out of parts that most people discard.
      I have tried ojo or eye of a tuna I caught in Mexico raw because apparently it's a tradition when you catch your first one and it was really not enjoyable!!

    Man you know I just love watching. That was awesome seeing you going out fishing at night. Looked like a lot of fun man. Was you out all night. With that smoke blowing out the mouth people really need to believe it when you said it gets cold. I've been there when it's been that cold. Had me thinking I was still at home. Good video man thank you. PS. Don't let my wife know I watch this without her. "LOL"

    • @TKOutdoors
      @TKOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, I won't tell her! We were out about 2-3 hours that night. Sometimes you gig when it's in the 20s or 30s. That mixed with open ocean air and a air boat makes for a freezing night. It's 29 degrees here right now and I'm a bit chilly in the deer blind.
