I regularly travel to Zürich every 2/3 months and have done so for in excess of 25 years. I have regularly called into the Bucherer stores that you visited and they say that only local residents can purchase Rolex pieces, going so far as the request proof of residency etc. Incidentially, just across on the other side of the street from the first Bucherer Rolex store, Tudor have opened a new boutique and virtually all timepieces are available. It is amazing how in the second Bucherer store you were in have no issue selling pre-owned pieces, with a hefty premium. Further up on that street you have IWC, Omega amongst others and most pieces are available to purchase.
I'm actually rather surprised Rolex is still acting this way, it isn't 2022 anymore. Rolex just isn't in the demand it was a few years ago. The secondary market has taken a significant beating.
rolex is still selling all the watches they make, over 1.2 million per year. the only thing that has changed in the last year or so is how much people will pay over msrp on the gray market. Which is a good thing.

Rolex ADs here in Zurich prioritize locals. Their first question when you get in the store is if you live in Switzerland. There is nothing you will not find in Dubai actually. Beyer museum is awesome and I would recommend to visit Schaffhausen and the IWC museum. Try reaching out to Moser to see if you can visit their Museum too. There’s an AP house in Zurich in case you can get an appointment, I had a great experience there. Enjoy
Not really, we have a few watches on waitlist. One was cancelled as it was discontinued. The other two in waiting since 10 months. So, don’t know why it’s happening to loyal customers. Don’t feel bad and they are not prioritising locals. Cheers!
It sounds like Rolex is telling all the ADs and Boutiques to sell to local residents only. I suspect a local would have an easier time getting the Rolex of their choice. Your Panerai looks great with a suit. Smart choice to take as an only watch on your trip. Just tidy up the fit slightly: shorten the white shirt sleeves (or just move the buttons to make the cuffs tighter) [only 1/4 inch of shirt sleeve should show], take in the jacket waist slightly, and add a white pocket square! BTW, Zurich does not seem too expensive for hotel and food. NYC can be very expensive.
Submariner at 20:32. Anything removed from the original Rolex watch may lower the price. Collectors most often want the original parts even if the original color has faded. Having said that, if you are not reselling the watch enjoy your purchase. A watch from 1983 is a different era in Rolex history.
Switzerland is a terrible place to buy a watch. High prices and very low VAT refund rate. Better off to cross the border to Germany to buy it. The prices are better and you get a 19% VAT refund.
@@MamboLui from an AD, probably the same. But if you buy from a secondary or grey market dealer, you'll save that 19% compared to buying the same watch in the U.S.
@@stevemoreno6241can you recommend one such dealer on the Waldshut/Singen/Konstanz area? Tired of getting the looks at Bucherer and I'm a Zürich resident!
it's very simple. Rolex/Bucherer only wants to supply the local market. You choose a dealer you trust and remain a customer there. If you want a Rolex, you configure it with your salesperson and it is put on the "wish list". This prevents the promotion of the grey market (the watches may only be sold to third parties after the 5-year warranty has expired). yes, there is a black list. I have never waited longer than 6 months for my watches. buy the watches from your hometown. Another reason is that global demand is very high and all countries have to be supplied. A new factory is being built for 8 billion CHF, then there should be no more bottlenecks. 👍🏻
AP at 21:27. You will need an appointment and you had better be wearing an AP watch. For the newish collectors boutiques will offer you a limited set of watches. Buy the less desired model. You get on a list for AP boutiques and eventually will get the call you're waiting for. That hard to find model will be yours if patient. They are closing AD stores so soon you'll be out of luck going that route.

İ dont have much of a collection. Just a gmt master 2 "batman" passed down from my father. But rolex employees seriously make me want to sell the watch. Unfortunately, there’s absolutely no point to come to Zurich for watch shopping. Beyer won’t let you in the store (if the gatekeeper is not in the mood) and Bucherer couldn’t care less who you are or what you want.
