Thank you for all you did Johnny Johnson. It's great to share stories from veterans like this, and to remember the amazing achievements of 617 Squadron

Both Johnny Johnson and Guy Gibson are first class, British heroes who deserve all the honour we can afford them.

No because when it was filmed Johnny Johnson was alive (2013).

Guy Gibson didn't invent the bouncing bomb. He was in charge of deploying it.

Barnes Wallis was the inventor of the bouncing bomb, not Guy Gibson. Guy Gibson lead the raid on the dams.

Absolutely right. How can someone upload something and be so inaccurate? Also, how can you have the audacity to correct the uploader when you, yourself, referred to Guy Gibson as the Squadron Leader? He was the Wing Commander, not the Squadron Leader. Some people should learn to read books.

At the time of the formation of 617 Squadron and during the raid, Gibson held the rank of Wing Commander, but in this case, he was the commanding officer of only a squadron.

@@MarsFKA By then it was the norm that an RAF squadron was led by a wing commander as the number of personnel in a squadron had become large enough to merit the leader of the squadron being the more senior rank.

@@MrDavidht Agreed. In the case of 617 Squadron, Gibson was given the job because of his vast experience, having survived 174 missions. He flew only one operation with 617 and his successors were also Wing Commanders, with the exception of H B Martin, who was acting CO after Holden was killed in September 1943.

"Dambusters veteran Johnny Johnson on Guy Gibson”...
You had better change this title and edit the commentary below it. Barnes Wallis was the bomb’s inventor and Mr Johnson was talking about *him*.
Another TH-cam clip stuffed up because the poster wasn't PAYING ATTENTION!
