    About Mary Flad:
MARY FLAD is an artist and writer who has made Poughkeepsie her home for fifty years. As a visual artist, she has worked primarily in the design and making of woven tapestry. Her inspiration is drawn from her surroundings, as the work in the exhibit “The Garden, the Landscape, the Weather” demonstrates.
She has made tapestries for a number of public buildings, churches, and private residences. These include the Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook; the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown; the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship in Poughkeepsie; and Hudson River Housing’s Fallkill Commons apartment complex. During the 2017 exhibition of the 17th-century Barberini tapestries at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, she served as a demonstrating artist-in-residence.
Mary continues an active involvement in the local cultural scene, and is a regular participant in Poughkeepsie’s Arts and Community Action Network, established by Arts Mid-Hudson more than a decade ago.
