  • You could fit a gross of these in one box of regular Gloomhaven.

Turn 1 they should’ve blocked 2 damage each hit so the bandit should have finished with 6 health. It doesn’t mean they shield on their turn, otherwise what are they shielding? A retaliate? Idk if you correct this later on so I’ll edit my comment as I go. Turn 2 you rolled a O for their initiative but put the marker on the +. Also, I don’t think your allowed to bring items to the first scenario, only starting in scenario 2 can you start bribing them. When you used the special mixture card and decided to move instead, you should’ve removed the poison from the bandit since they wouldn’t have been in range 1 anymore to apply, you have to do the abilities from top to bottom in order, otherwise it’s kind of cheap to poison and then decide to move.

      1. No, it does mean they shield on their turn. It would block an extra damage if I had higher initiative than the bandits and attacked AFTER their turn. Retaliate is not an attack, so it does not get blocked by shield, as I recall.
      2. Yes, I accidentally put the initiative marker on the wrong spot in Turn 2.
      3. The item thing is not laid out clearly in the rules. The rulebook talks about using items, but if you have not looked at the scenario cards, you have no idea that you are not supposed to use them yet (unless I missed it). It comes up on a scenario card after you beat the first mission.
      4. You are correct, when I changed my mind and decided to move with Special Mixture, the poison should have been taken off. I forgot in that brief time that the poison was coming from that ability.

Hi, I have watched a few playthroughs of the game and am enjoying your approach. On many of the videos it looks as if warping of the cards has been a major issue. You seem to have solved this problem by sleeving the cards. I was wondering if you could let me know which sizes and brands of sleeves you are using? Many thanks in advance.

My cards are still warped, but maybe it just is not as obvious with the sleeves. I have Sleeve Kings sleeves. The big cards are SKS-8810 and the little cards are SKS-8803. Thicker sleeves would probably do better to flatten the cards, but these sleeves let everything easily fit in the box. You can find a good list of different brands of sleeves that fit here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/393672/gloomhaven-buttons-and-bugs/sleeves

I have not played any Gloomhaven. A couple of times you said the mice would not move because there was no clear path to you. What I read is that a monster would move to shorten its attack path. Does it say in the rule book that they would not move if there is not an open spot to attack no matter how far away?

Monster focus/movement is the trickiest part of Gloomhaven. It is a bit easier in Buttons & Bugs, since there is always only one potential target for the monsters (instead of 2-4, plus summons). Pg. 30 of the online rulebook, No Focus:
"If you are invisible or if the monster cannot reach a valid hex, given infinite movement, from which it can perform its attack, the monster does not move or attack but still performs any other abilities listed on its ability card."
If the monster has a melee attack and there is no reachable open hex adjacent to the player, then it does not move or attack. I am pretty sure this is correct.

@@beardownbandit I read through that section and it does sound like you are correct. Thanks!
