  • Watching some of the latest videos from ‪@RussLyman‬ ‪@NESADDICT‬ and the lads at ‪@GamingOffTheGrid‬ made me really want to put together what collection I would build with $100 on the NES. Utilizing the loose cart prices on Pricecharting.com, I think I've put together something that I'd personally be stoked to have - all these are games I'd love to play regularly and that I'd be ecstatic to start a collection with.
    Let me know which games YOU would put in your $100 NES collection!

      Fantastic list!! Love the inclusion of Kung Fu, which is a fantastic black box game so many people overlook. And great choice on Golf!!
      I can't believe I didn't put Punch-Out on this list!!

    Faxanadu is a great addition. It's been nice to see in recent years that this and Crystalis are starting to get the recognition they deserve.
    Glad to see Blaster Master here too, really enjoyed that one and it still holds up pretty well. AND, as you said, fantastic music.

    • @SquarePegs

      Crystalis is top tier and was actually on my original list before I scuttled a few things for Mega Man 3 to be on there. :) It's such an incredible game and one that deserves all the love.

    Such a great list of games. Double Dragon 2 is such a great game. Remember playing it as a kid and Scott and I have played it plenty of times too
    SMB3 can’t be beat. It’s still a personal fav of mine too. One of the few games I played all the way through as a kid.

    YES! Baseball Stars! Great pick! All time favorite! Ice Hockey over Blades of Steel? Interesting. Great list, can't argue with any of those picks.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Much as I love Blades of Steel (and I do!), I think Ice Hockey delivers a better overall experience. Also, it's only $3.18 today versus Blades of Steel at $7.74. I wasn't willing to sacrifice Mickey Mousecapade for BoS. :)

    My $100 dollar, nes games would first start with my favorite game FINAL FANTASY $25.98, SUPER MARIO / DUCK HUNT $6.37, TETRIS $10.92, DOUBLE DRAGON 2 $12.20, JACKAL $14.72, NES OPEN GOLF $11.47, and the last game NINJA GAIDEN $14.20. I made a total $95.86, but have a hard time to find game that is fun for $4.14 left but hey 7 awesome nes game a great start and a bit, of variety

    I'd fit Metroid in there somewhere, but I guess Blaster Master is that similiar open world style. I'd swap Metroid in for Mega Man. I'd take Tecmo Bowl as the sports game.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tecmo Bowl is a fantastic choice, but football has never really been my sport - hence why I went with hockey and baseball. Personally, I've never been a huge fan of the OG Metroid, so it probably wouldn't make a list for me, but you'll get no side eye from me if it would be on your list. :)

  • @ColdSteelKid

    Apparently my entire NES collection is worth less than a $100 on its own. Ha! I really need to work on building that collection. Battle of Olympus is 15.99, TMNT 7.75, TMNT II 13.99, TMNT III 36.66, and Sesame Street ABC & 123 for 9.80 (I have trouble believing anyone is selling that for $9. I paid $2). All told just under $85.

  • @kyledillinger8421
    @kyledillinger8421 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think I would find a way to work in Super Dodge Ball for my sports game, and I would definitely include Batman. I also can't imagine having a Nintendo collection without the original Super Mario Bros.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Batman would have made my list most days, but I was really feeling Blaster Master the day I recorded this, so it got swapped out for that. Super Dodge Ball I legitimately completely overlooked when I was putting this together because I just kind of assumed it was going to be worth more than $12 - that would have made it ahead of Baseball Stars!
      And as much as I love the original SMB, I couldn't see it being on this list over SMB3. I probably could have put the dual pack with SMB/Duck Hunt in place of Mickey Mousecapade, but I've got no complaints with my picks. :) Thanks for watching!

    Pretty good list of games.
    Blaster Master is solid pick. I beat it for the first time earlier this year. It does have a great soundtrack.

    Great video with some legit good games for a fair price. I love to see more of these with different consoles. It's crazy that I grew up with the Atari, Nintendo, and Sega Genesis, but I didn't really get into gaming until the PlayStation and 3rd person 3d games. It just finally gave me what I wanted with video games and I've been hooked ever since.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Star Tropics is legitimately in my top 3 NES games, and I strongly considered putting it on here - but if I was being honest with myself, it's in its best form when it's CIB so you have the manual and letter as well. Still excellent when it's a loose game, but I really feel like it deserves the bells and whistles to show off how great it is. And if I did that, it would have eaten up almost half of the $100 budget. :)

      @@SquarePegs there are some fantastic releases for the SMS, and of course the library in Europe was much larger. Luckily there is no region lock out though.
      Off the top of my head, some of my favorites would be:
      Out run, Enduro Racer, My Hero, Phantasy Star, Quartet, Secret Command (Rambo 3 in the US), Double Dragon, R-Type, Alex Kid in Miracle World, Astro Warrior, Fantasy Zone…….. I could go on, lol. Honestly, I think you’ll be surprised how overlooked the system was in the US once you give it a go, and so many games can be picked up for next to nothing.

    Mickey Mousecapade always looked like kind of a clunky mess, but it might be that Game Grumps video that made me perceive it in a… special way. If ya know ya know. And hey, if I had an NES I’d risk five bucks for it! Also, Blaster Master and Faxanadu at only just under 13 each feels like a steal and a half. Never played Faxanadu but both you and Riggs have spoken very highly of it so that is a solid price it seems.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  ปีที่แล้ว

      I truly love Faxanadu - it's one of those games I rented on a whim as a kid and it's stuck with me now for 30+ years. :) And Mickey Mousecapade DOES look like a clunky mess - and as a kid, that's how I felt about it - but now as an adult? Kid Jay was a dummy and this game is straight up fun.

    • @samuelallen2831
