ive been a snake bite victim in Mumbai during rains. it was a very small just about 2 ft snake which "accidently" bit me on my ankle. I saw the snake and the first thing i did was "NOT panic" I took slow deep breaths and went to a nearby clinic and the doctor there told me of the nearest hospital which stocks antivenom. My friend took me in her car and within 10 mins of the bite i was in the emergency. NOTHING AT ALL WAS DONE AT THE SITE OF THE BITE. NO CLEANING NO ANTISEPTIC NOTHING. They just saw it and started giving me the required medicines thru IV. I was under constant observation. after about 2 hours I started to get a bad back ache then stomach ache and then i started vomiting violently. they immediately did an ultrasound and in a an hour did an MRI. I was thrashing violently on the bed so 4 people had to hold me down to get my MRI. My blood was taken every hour for 48 hours to check all the compositions. My WBC had shot up to I think 5 figures and my kidneys were literally fried !! My feet looked black and my entire leg was almost blue in color and was swollen 5 times its size. My doctor was too good and she gave me the right medicines and kept me on lots of fluids - a glass of fluid almost every hour as in coconut water, buttermilk, juice, plain water ect. Thankfully my immunity was very strong and i responded to the medicines well. after a week in the hospital i was discharged with just swollen feet and antibiotic prescription for another 2 weeks. The snake was some Krait variety and was quite poisonous. I had recovered completely in a months time but continued to drink barley water, coriander water for 6 more months to flush out any remaining toxins. the skin of my leg continued to look blue for close to 8 months and came back to its original color only after an year. YOU SHOULD NEVER TIE ANYTING OVER THE SNAKE BITE AS THE POISON CAN BE VERY STRONG AND IF REMAINED CONCENTRATED AT ONE POINT IT CAN LITERALLY MELT THE MUSCLE AND BONE IN THAT AREA. THIS MIGHT LEAD TO AMPUTAION OF THAT PART OF THE BODY.IT IS BEST TO LET IT FLOW THRU THE SYSTEM AND LET THE BODY MECHANISM FLUSH IT OUT. I was very lucky to have survived becs of quick response. some 3 other snake bite victims did not survive. one was an elderly person with high diabetes. So keep yourself very healthy and your immunity high. it might just save your life.

Dr. Richa, this video was extremely helpful. I must admit that I was against all the four options initially when you posed the question. But this video was quite informative and useful.
Hi Richa ji I am from southern part of India. I knew bits and pieces of hindi and I found out your video is so productive and precise to the point. But my humble request is…..could you please add subtitles for upcoming videos if it’s possible….it’ll reach out to more people across the world Thanks ji🙏🏻🙏🏻
Mam you explained this very nicely... Unfortunately many people does what you said not to do . Even in my family a snake bite happened and they made a blade cut on that spot and tied the a tight piece of cloth above . Snake was not poisonous and nothing happened . Now they believe what they did is totally wrong. After watching your video.
Dear Dr. Thanks for the video made in simple language. Just one correction. The bite site should not be washed or cleaned by first responders. This can be done in the hospital. Also in areas that have a distribution of medically significant snakes that are outside the Big Four category, knowing the culprit species can help doctors ascertain what kind of symptom to expect which will further help them be better prepared and manage the patient.

Many people from the village area, say that when being bitten by a snake , the first step we should do is to tie a thin rope or thread just above the affected local site so that the poison would not travel further. But I had never known if these would really help. However, now, after having watched your video made me educated in this topic. Thank you very much Doctor for your informative presentation. It is really helpful..
Thank you for the accurate information Dr.! Growing up we have been told to tie the affected region in an attempt to obstruct the venom to reach our brain or other vital organs. This certainly equipped me with the right knowledge to help save someone.
Can you also help with information on what kind of health authorities/hospitals/clinics we should reach out upon a snake bite as there could be cases where the anti venom is not readily available
Very well explanation.... But i feel there are so many local hospitals and doctors don't know... What is the solution or treatment for snake bite. So please make a video on it or explain medicine involved for treatment 💊💉. Thank you 😊🙏
Thanks for giving us the knowledge on this very serious issue of snake ites about which most of us are clueless and terribly afraid. Please also tell us about the level of hospital where antidotes are always available. Also throw light on how to handle a snakebite case where the treatment is likely to be available only after 6 or 8 hours.

Thank you ma'am. Very informative. We used to live in govt house. There were so many snakes around that area. And Scorpio. One time one snake entered our house. My mother shouted very loudly. And that snake peacefully left our house. By god's grace we were saved that night. That snake was very poisonous. Because there were so many yellow and black lines on that snake. Scorpio aaya tha ghar mai toh wo bahot chota tha. Phir bhi zehrela tha. Now we left that house. No snakes here. 🙏🏾

In India, there are too many death because of unawareness, traditional beliefs, like zad funk, bhuva, and all stupidity। Hope this kinds of awareness program should shown on TV, which will be really helpful
Being a well respected snake I can approve that the doctor is well respected and her advices are well respected and correct
thank you snake!
Thank you Doctor for the absolute information, once I was failed in the interview due to lack of knowledge about snack bite and here I found the best one.
Dr. Richa, this video was extremely helpful. I must admit that I was against all the four options initially when you posed the question. But this video was quite informative and useful.
Glad it was helpful!
@@DrRichaTiwari Hi, anti venom.. Medicine name please? We can add on in FA box?
Anti snake venom(ASV) is given along with neostigmine and atropine in case of cobra or Krait bite.
Hi Richa ji
I am from southern part of India. I knew bits and pieces of hindi and I found out your video is so productive and precise to the point.
But my humble request is…..could you please add subtitles for upcoming videos if it’s possible….it’ll reach out to more people across the world

Local herb cure snake poison
@@zohrajabeenmmohammed1558assalamu alaikum
Mam you explained this very nicely...
Unfortunately many people does what you said not to do . Even in my family a snake bite happened and they made a blade cut on that spot and tied the a tight piece of cloth above . Snake was not poisonous and nothing happened . Now they believe what they did is totally wrong.
After watching your video.
मैम , मैंने पहले सोचा था के उस जगह को बांधना चाहिए... अच्छा knowledge मिला।
Thanks doctor
Your knowledge, presentation and pronounce is unbeatable
Thanks!

Bro, if hospital is far then this method is more safe....you have to tie and continue was with tap water..
Thank you for the accurate information Dr.! Growing up we have been told to tie the affected region in an attempt to obstruct the venom to reach our brain or other vital organs. This certainly equipped me with the right knowledge to help save someone.
This info is useful Not just to help others but also useful if we r a victim.

Very well explanation.... But i feel there are so many local hospitals and doctors don't know... What is the solution or treatment for snake bite. So please make a video on it or explain medicine involved for treatment 💊💉. Thank you 😊🙏
All hypothetical doubts cleared. Nicely explained.
Everyone needs this knowledge...thank you mam 🙏...
Most welcome 😊
Thanks for giving us the knowledge on this very serious issue of snake ites about which most of us are clueless and terribly afraid. Please also tell us about the level of hospital where antidotes are always available. Also throw light on how to handle a snakebite case where the treatment is likely to be available only after 6 or 8 hours.

Dr. Sahiba, what are the life saving steps which one could take in the wilderness far from the nearest hospital?

Thanks Dr, the video is informative and precautionery. I served in Army where there is Snake bite box available wherein a rope is also placed. As per your advice, one should not tie the upper area of snake bite. If it is so, i request all units to think about the rope. As the Army moves all around, the points in the video be noted. Par Bahut jyada bolke confuse kar rahn hain. Step by step first stage se bona chahiye aur medical terminology ka use minimum kariye . To the point pehle short mein boliye bina English terminology ke fir baad mein explain kijiyega to samajh mein bhi ayega confusion kam hoga.
Your way to present is superb and you can teach this near by villages so that they don't use their traditional methods 😅❤
I really appreciate your efforts ma'am. The way you presented this and your way of explaining it was totally simple but full of knowledge . Being a medical student i can understand that there so many myths regarding the snake bite ans scorpion sting in our country... but you already told us that.

What treatment protocols are followed in hospitals. Also, do all hospitals have trained staff to administer treatment for snake bites? Also all hospitals are not equipped with antinenom, anti allergy and infusion medication, so what to do?
