My brother and I saw this in the theater. They said “You shall have my sword!”
“And you shall have my bow!”
      “And my axe!”
My brother immediately said, "and my HK!"
Meaning his new HK handgun he'd recently bought. LOL

    1. Watching the Lord of the Rings again and again.

Also, no other movie has ever made 9 blokes walking past a rock look so epic.

I super-lucked out and found a 6-disc set of the Hobbit and LOTR movies in a bin at Walmart. Now, one of those discs is pretty much always in my PS4. If I get bored and can't find anything, I just play whichever disc is already in. Never fails to draw me in. Even though I'd read the books at least 4 or 5 times through before the movies came out.

It occurred to me the other day that Peter Jackson being a horror director did TONS of work in these movies. There are some genuine moments of tension, and even a little horror sprinkled throughout. Giant spiders and monster-movie orcs, demons and wraiths and a treacherous little goblin man with schizophrenia.

Asia mentioned not being the "LotR" type going into this, and having seen enough reactions to this series at this point that I knew- as soon as I saw the expression of pure enchantment on her face as she looked out over the Shire- that she was hooked. This story is timeless, and the films are a wonderful introduction to it.

    • @wren7195
      @wren7195 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I... can't even begin to express how incredible this "movie" is. The Hobbit trilogy died sadly in production hell, and I don't think I would've appreciated del Toro's vision as much as I would've wanted to (he's a legendary visionary filmmakery and I lovey him)... but when PJ's behind the scenes (that... sounds wrong) clip of him telling his crew "This is real. We stumbled across the most accurate historical retelling of these events archaeologically and we're going to try to make a film about it"
Now BEFORE that I was (super psychotic fantasy book fangirl here, Wheel of Time is my all "time" favourite, LotR a very very VERY close second) terrified. Saw rumors on the net back in the ancient day (when I still had dial up) that they were going to make a live action Lord of the Rings.
I was with my best friend, HER best friend, and a guy we were both friends with (who I could beat in HEMA swordfights despite that being "his thing" and me giving him books on it like... bro, if you goin do dis den FACKING TRAIN, you're exceptional.........)
      Anyway sorry, I'm drunk.
I don't remember the movie we were watching, we were in theatre, and it opens with Frodo stalking around doing his "no one knows it's here, do they. DO they, Gandalf?" And (the first FLICKING reveal of Gandalf walks into the literal frame) .....
Then it cuts to the black riders, and *THE BRAVEHEART SOUNDTRACK PLAYS* some super psychotic God and all good things bless that nerd managed to do that, everyone sits in the dark watching the rest of the film.
I literally started squealing out loud when Gandalf stepped into frame "LORDOFTHERINGSLORDOFTHERINGSLORDOFTHERINGS!!!!" when Cass grabbed my arm laughing, and Rob asks later on why I freaked out. I freaked OUT because it actually LOOKED good, the acting was great, I LOVED Elijah Wood with a passion (fight me Flipper) and it just seemed so pitch perfect.
Then 9:11 happened. And the movie that was already fully in production and very much at its final product landed right after that. And somehow, because apparently we always notice positive happenstance they say and we ignore everything else (which I disagree with).... this movie ends with Samwise standing there, looking off into the future, and the rest of the scene dissolves into all of us walking into a very dangerous distance.
Not away, but towards. "....into the very fires of Mordor."
(also, for "casual" nerds like me, the way they say "Mordor" is... mwah)
YOU ARE NOT THE SUCKO! Unless you mean spikes suck, in which case they do when we step on them.
      Drunk?
      *smiles, hugs*
Cracks me up that when I go to church the most Christian movies I make everyone try to watch are Matrix Tril and LotR

    • @jollyquinn430
      @jollyquinn430 ปีที่แล้ว

      @suprchickn7745 Exactly!
But I wish they would've put more songs into the movies.
I remember when I read the books, I wished I would know the melody of the songs. Like Tom Bombadil's song for example.
When I heard that there will be a LotR remake, I was like:"Finally, I'll learn all the melodies!" And then they didn't include Tom at all. :'D
But the music is so great. I have fond memories or learning to play the soundtrack on my saxophone as a young teenager. (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean were my favorite soundtracks to play)
And a few years ago, I was able to visit a concert where they played the LotR soundtrack live with an orchestra. And Billy (the actor of Pippin) was also there and he sang live. Such a funny guy.
I still love the music. So nostalgic. It feels like home when you listen to it.

17:11 Christopher Lee is a legend.. He was the only Lord of the Rings star to have met the writer of the books, JRR Tolkien (1892-1973). He played Dracula through the 1950's through the 1970's. He was in Star Wars, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He was in the Royal Air Force during WW2, and he was a singer up until he passed.
He apparently wanted to play Gandalf, but he was too old and not physically capable enough to play the part. So he played Saruman, instead.. Which works out, because I think he was great in his role, and his voice was perfect.

An older brother gave me a copy of The Hobbit as a birthday present, after finishing it I checked out all 3 of the LOTR books from the library as fast as I finished them.
The author JRR Tolkien was a veteran of the trenches in WWI and an Oxford professor in British folklore/literature, so he had insight into real courage and skill in bringing characters to life. The Middle Earth stories began as bedtime stories he made up off the top of his head for his kids.
Tolkien was friends with the guy that wrote the Narnia series, C.S. Lewis. He was another Oxford professor that would meet at a pub with Oxford types, have drinks and make up stories. Tolkien and Lewis actually had a gentleman's bet over who could write the best books for kids.

I haven’t read the book but did the Ring play a part in that? Like it knew it needed to be away from Bilbo to have more of a chance to getting back home? Now that it was awake and had heard the call, it needed to be in different hands?

    • @DogmaticNonsense

@@Drummer4President just consider this for your opinion; would the ring want to leave him when bilbo was leaving his house on a journey all alone? Bilbo who struggled to drop it at the door - Old, feeble, and alone on a long journey with the evil ring...
No, I believe the ring didn't want to be left behind at that point. In fact, being with bilbo would have only made it easier to take or find.
Even more so with the hold it had over bilbo

    • @Drummer4President
      @Drummer4President ปีที่แล้ว

@@DogmaticNonsense I wasn’t asking about reader interpretation or opinions. I was asking if the book made it clear either way whether the ring wanted to leave him or not?
Because from my opinion, yes Bilbo would have been a choice target on the road, but he had also had the ring for some years without turning into golem. But he was starting to turn, so may have fought for it. So if it had wanted to stay, it could have been hoping to ensnare someone less weak willed than Bilbo, or Frodo even.
I was just asking for clarification without having to read the book really 🙂🤷🏼

There is actually a reason why the Hobbits are the best keepers of the One Ring: They have no ambition, at least not one that the Ring can translate to corrupt them. Sure they'll EVENTUALLY start to fall to the Ring's influence, but only once it's worn them down a great ways.
    Basically This
The Ring: "Use my power, and I shall make you the... greatest garlic farmer... in Middle-Earth?"
Hobbit: "OR, I could just head over to the inn, have some cups, and ooh, pipeweed and brandy would be great, maybe with a lovely meat and cheese plate, and some good yeast rolls with garlic butter...." *continues going on about food for 40 minutes unbroken.

It's just tobacco. Book author Tolkien was as inveterate pipe smoker and brought pipe-smoking into his fantasy world. However, Miidli-Earth was supposed to be ancient Europe, so he didn't feel right using the Native American word tobacco, so he just called it pipeweed. The book was published in the 50s, and he had spent about 20 years writing it, so it would predate the common use of "weed" as slang for marijuana. When American hippies discovered LOTR and thought that everyone was getting high on weed all the time, Tolkien was not very happy.

We honestly don't know the nature of the wizards' staffs. On the one hand yes, they are Maiar spirits and have an inherent power that would not require a staff to use. But on the other the staffs are shown as being significant to the Istari. Gandalf insists on bringing his staff with him when they meet with Theoden and seems to use it in the process of helping him. When Gandalf destroys Saruman's staff Saruman's powers seem to be drastically reduced. The Valar gave the Istari the bodies of old men to remind them to be humble, so it's not unlikely that those bodies also limited their power. Obviously Gandalf was still able to defeat his fellow Maia (the Balrog) without his staff, but it was only in direct conflict with other beings from Valinor that the wizards were permitted to use the full extent of their powers. So maybe the staffs are tied to their ability to use their powers on beings in middle-earth; because they don't have permission from the Valar to use their full powers for middle-earth, they are only able to use their powers to the allowed extent through their staffs. This, of course, is contradicted by the wizard duel in the film, but obviously the fight didn't actually happen in the book. It didn't need to, because as the leader of the Istari Saruman had dominion over Gandalf. There was nothing Gandalf could have done to oppose him in that regard. The same way that once Gandalf was given Saruman's old 'job' he had dominion over Saruman, who could do nothing to oppose him.
The point is, the staffs are significant in some regard. Though I suspect your motivation for your comment might have just been you seeing an opportunity to flex your Tolkien lore knowledge and taking it ;)

The One Ring’s power over people explained here:As for the rings given to these groups:They were all meant to go to the elves but Mairon of the Maiar disguised as a high elf named Annatar when he came to the elves pretending to be an emissary from Valinor on behalf of the Valar so it makes sense how alluring the ring is and how strong it’s pull on people is. (A bit too instant in the movies though) Galadriel soon saw right through him and especially when after speaking with him regarding not remembering him when in Valinor long ago where she learned from all the Valar thanks to being dominantly Vanyar/Teleri side over her Ñoldorin side where she gleaned from that encounter that she did not study under Aulë the Vala with any elf named Annatar ! But later named Sauron by the elves meaning deceiver! After all of this, The three elven rings were made in secret without Saurons touch upon them thanks to Celebrimbor! Remember Gandalf before he became Gandalf was the same species of entity Sauron used to be!! Wow hey? The Rings, in this case, would have lost their powers eventually due to the lack of the One Ring and possibly because they were designed to defeat evil, and evil, in the form of Sauron, had been defeated. The Three Elven Rings served their purpose for a long time. Two out of three of them had several different bearers Unlike the other Rings, the main purpose of the Three is to "heal and preserve", as when Galadriel used Nenya to preserve her realm of Lothlórien over long periods. The Elves made the Three Rings to try to halt the passage of time, or as Tolkien had Elrond say, "to preserve all things unstained". I can expand upon this based on any further statements and questions you have for me as a reply to this comment ! ❤ Aside from the three Elven Rings Made In Secret Without Saurons presence or touch upon them through Celebrimbor!

Some Things you must know about Lord of the Rings
1: Gandalf is not really a human wizard, that's just what people call him. He's actually a powerful spirit being (called a Maia) in human form. He's basically an angel!
2: Sauron is also a powerful fallen spirit being, basically a fallen angel.
3: The languages that the characters speak in the movies *are actual languages*. They were invented by the author of the books from scratch! He was a famous linguist and an Oxford Professor in real life.
4: Lord of the Rings novels are the bestselling fantasy series of the 20th and the 21st century (so far) and maybe of all time.

(Not in the movies) Galadriel intentionally match Arwen & Aragorn together while both visited Lothlòrien? some more story about this without spoilers as it’s not shown in the movies at all. : Galadriel intentionally matched Arwen & Aragorn together while they were both visiting Lothlòrien for different reasons.
Arwen & Aragorn met in Rivendell, & that is where Aragorn fell in love with her, although it doesn’t sound like she felt the same at the time. Aragorn’s mother Gilraen warned him that he was aiming too high, and Elrond was not happy about it either, and Aragorn took heed of this and left Rivendell, to learn how to be a Ranger and to oppose Sauron’s forces.
Many years later, he came to Lothlorien, seeking rest and shelter, and Galadriel allowed him to enter. We have this line in the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen:
“But Aragorn was grown to full stature of body and mind, and Galadriel bade him cast aside his wayworn raiment, and she clothed him in silver and white, with a cloak of elven-grey and a bright gem on his brow. Then more than any kind of Men he appeared, and seemed rather an Elf-lord from the Isles of the West. And thus it was that Arwen first beheld him again after their long parting; and as he came walking towards her under the trees of Caras Galadhon laden with flowers of gold, her choice was made and her doom appointed.” LOTR Appendices.
To me, that makes it rather explicit that Galadriel wanted Aragorn to appear at his best. Why? Who could he possibly impress in Lothlorien, except for Galadriel’s grand-daughter? I think it is quite clear that she wanted them matched, and perhaps her foresight told her that they needed to be matched, as it was part of destiny, to begin the Dominion of Men (something Elrond probably also realised, but couldn’t willingly promote, since it would mean Arwen and Elrond would be parted forever).
Plus there is the scene in Lorien, where Galadriel gives Aragorn the Elessar, which went from Galadriel to Celebrian to Arwen and then back to Galadriel in order that she give it as a gift to Aragorn. Again it speaks to me as a collaborative act, and part of Galadriel helping bring the two together:
And Aragorn answered: 'Lady, you know all my desire, and long held in keeping the only treasure that I seek. Yet it is not yours to give me, even if you would; and only through darkness shall I come to it.'
'Yet maybe this will lighten your heart,' said Galadriel; 'for it was left in my care to be given to you, should you pass through this land.' Then she lifted from her lap a great stone of a clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring.
'This stone I gave to Celebrían my daughter, and she to hers; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold for you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the house of Elendil! ' From LOTR FOTR BOOK

I was drinking something when Asia said "Earth Grabbers." Now I am not because it's all over my lap. Did you know the black haired Elf Lady is the daughter of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith? Now that your doing Game of Thrones, did you notice Ned Stark ride up on a horse at the end of this reaction? Or Orlando Bloom from Pirates of the Caribbean. This movie was before both. It is the movie that made Orlando Bloom famous but Ned Stark played by Sean Bean, was semi famous before this movie. And most people will agree that this is the slowest and 3rd best of the 3 movies.
This is why you guys are maybe my favorite reactors. Even movies your not all that excited to see, you bring the same fun and energy and professionalism to the reaction. You can't help but enjoy you guys reacting to something. Well, maybe not "Steel Magnolias," But most things. LOL.

The crazy thing is, Sauron isn't the main bad guy. He's not the real lord of Darkness. The one called Morgoth is. He was Saurons master but he was so evil that the other great spirits of the world banned together and locked Morgoth out of the universe. He's not dead. He just can't get back into the world. It left a power vacuum, so the next powerful evil spirit took over. That was Sauron but Sauron used to be Morgoths servant. Now Gandalf is from the same order of spirit as Sauron. Technically Gandalf has the power to take Sauron on but that's not his role in the story, not unless everything goes wrong.

Me: "Indeed, you don't. In fact, you have no idea how right you are."
So glad to see you two have started this series. I saw all three movies in theaters, and adored both Peter Jackson's vision and the performances of so many wonderful actors in bringing Tolkien's amazing world to life.
    Enjoy!

Elijah Wood also had small part in Back to the Future 2. He was one of the little boys playing around with the arcade game in "2015."

Asia and BJ, you all should watch the theatrical version of the last two movies. First time viewers will enjoy it more. If you love the theatrical then you could watch the extended version later.

Love this channel and the reactions so much. Just had to comment and say the lovely edit at the Prancing Pony when Frodo fell and vanished didn't go unnoticed!

The scene with Arwen fleeing follow by the ring spirits and that music gives me goosebums - every time! Epic shot.

These films truly are masterpiece, art, the detail is craaazy from the ring shrinking down from saurons finger size to the ring hitting the floor like a led weight without bouncing when bilbo drops it, these films do not get old they have a replay value of infinite.

the details of this movie's worldbuilding is crazy :) they've hired so many experts to create different cultures and topics, like therer were smiths to forge weapons, and there was Tom Shippey - a renowned literature profesor - as their main literature consultant (about Tolkien books), and the caligrapher who wrote all the books the charachters use in the movie - the writing in those books was not some incoherent babble, it was written in Tolkien languages - elven and dwarven languages - and of course there was also a jeweler who made every version of the prop of the Ring - from the smallest to the biggest version used in the movie. I remember that story about their caligrapher. He wrote one of those books and knowing elven language he did a prank - wrote some unparlamentary words in there. :D And one of their consultants of languages found out and told PJ and PJ told the caligrapher to change it :) Becouse the languages consultant and PJ knew that there will be fans in the audience who would be able to read this :) Well, it would be unending laugh from PJ team if that "elven curse" :D was left to be seen on big screen as one of the pages of elven book :D

Yes! The extended edition dvd's have some of the most extensive and amazing behind the scenes that I have ever seen. The way they were made was absolutely historic and groundbreaking so it's great to see that documented so thoroughly.

@@laurelrosegardens6454 for me it was impressive that they got to make 2 or 3 versions of every prop according to the height of actors :) Imagine every table, cup, rug on the floor and chandeliler made two times as bigger and smaller for bigger and smaller actors. And then it was the problems with costumes oh my :) As far as I could find out Frodo got 10 costumes and most other main roles got different costumes from clean to rugged, bloodied etc... and then it was the problem of making those costumes for bigger and smaller actors -not only one for tall hobbits actors and for tall human/elves actors but also for small doubles of hobbit actors when the hobbits must be compared to tall heroes and for big doubles of human/elves actors when the human/elves actors must be compared to small hobbit heroes :) They not only got smaller doubles for hobbit actors but also big doubles standing for Ian McKellen and Viggo Mortensen :) It was all part of "Scale doubles". Jeez I just love the Ext. DVD with all those production stories :) I love the ideas - how to make Rivendell's waterfalls to look so great but be cheap :) how to make an armour for Elendil guy who will be smashed on the rock, how to build a "vikings village" with wood and straw roofs :) how to train 200 horses for battle scenes etc.... Jeez I love those guys :)
