who in their right minds would want a big modern mansion when you could have this.....how i would love to be the one to have this handed down to me.....this house is gorgeous
You did a beautiful job!. Love this house. Hate to see these old houses modernized. Your house is like stepping into the past. Would luv to do this to mine.
Not only do you get to live in a beautiful home that you have put so much work and effort into, you get to live in a work of art, because that is what this is compared to modern buildings. Absolutely beautiful! Well done!
I’ve watched this over and over and over for years now. Just watched it again this morning. Thank you for saving this beautiful property and all of your work. Have you metal detected the property for more artifacts? Beautiful
Mike, Thank you for sharing all your hard work, it certainly paid off, you are left with a real treasure, something to be cherished for generations, well done young man-
I am typing with tears in my eyes and finding it hard to breathe because the house is beyond amazing and cozy. My heart aches because I'm not living in it! I share your passion for history, old homes and the people who built them, and all who have lived in them over time. Thank you for sharing and please post updates!
Another wonderful film. The music was fitting and the slow pan of the rooms gave me a real taste of what it would be like to be in this delightful space. Perhaps Mike Sandone, you should be a videographer and narrator for other like-minded restorers. I am very impressed.
I grew up in a home that was once a log cabin turned into a house by 1876. It is on the first plat of Cass County, MI. I applaud you and your family. many of these original homes were placed in spots of interest and of great value. A value most men no longer understand. We did not have central heat. The old well still works. Frost would form on the windows. My parents did some bad cheap rehabbing. Thye did not know better. I have been married to a few old homes also like you and your family now is. Lovely. On cold winter nights when the gales blow. I still remember my childhood. The full moon shining in the old glass. Snow fines drifting into the room. One my blankets. In the air. Fine jewels dancing with the frost on the window panes. Some tints of refracting moonlight. The rush of the wind in the trees and over the pond. Much like your land, a pond out back. My brothers and parents tell me they are reminded of the poverty, cold and hunger when they are there. It sits empty. My father still owns it. To me, I am still in love with the house and land. Now I have my own old home. Placed in a special place.
You did an absolutely stupendous job restoring this glorious house. It is so important historically to restore and maintain examples of the past especially for such a young country as ours. Thank you so much for sharing and making this wonderful videos.
Very beautiful result, great idea to save and restore the house. Many Americans will thank you later on. Thank you for sharing your amazing video. God bless you and your family
You have done a fantastic job saving and preserving this gem of a home, down to smallest of details. It's obvious from your videos that you care about this home and that you view it as place in which every original feature has absorbed the voices of its nearly 260 year history. While not nearly as old, my wife and I have spent the past eight years saving and preserving my great-grandparents' farmhouse in Virginia, and I have an understanding and appreciation for what you are doing. I'm inspired by your work and commend you on a job well done.
Perhaps it was growing up in VA that has given me an appreciation for homes like this - I can only imagine how special your family farmhouse must be there. My husband and I are now in GA in a home built in the early 80s that you'd swear was from 1700. From the fireplaces to the hand hewn ceiling timbers and finish carpentry you don't see anymore, we feel blessed by the challenge of how to do it justice and also making it truly our own. My Mother's Hinkel Harris furniture feels right at home :)
I have watched your videos so many times - what a wonderful heart felt restoration you have done. I am so inspired - I did sent a message on Instagram to tell you my thoughts on this beautiful accomplishment.
Please, please, will you keep posting regarding this property and all that you discover within its grounds? I absolutely love all you have done and providing us with the history as well. I'm just in awe of what you have accomplished! Congratulations!
A restoration that is both sensitive and contemporary, that brings a beautiful, old and historic house to life once again. Oh to live in a house that has so much character and charm. How could anyone have thought of demolishing this gorgeous building?
This may sound weird but I could barely breath watching this. I hope you know what an incredible job you have done. The original owners/builders would love it as much as I'm sure they did back when it was created. Bravo!
Well done man! So cool you saved this place. What a tasteful restoration as well. I’m looking at a property from 1782 on Monday. Feeling inspired. Thanks for sharing!
You have done an exceptional job. What struck me as unusual (well unusual for a typical US home) is the fact that you not only used the original colours (instead of standard beige) in your house but that the whole interior reminds me more of European places than the typical US interior. Your German Christmas pyramid, the Chocolate Santa, the eclectic books remind me more of European home. Anyway, beautiful restoration for a modern family.
This beautiful home exudes LOVE. I want to wrap my arms around it and feel its love and comfort. Thank you, thank you. I'm sure this house thanks you every day.
Mike I truly believe you are an Old Soul that perhaps lived here before. To love a house with so much passion and unselfishness is astounding. May God continue to bless you and your magnificent home. Thank you for sharing.
Great job Mike. We were about to purchase 1788 Federal in Derby CT in 2000 but Chrysler transferred me here to Michigan. So I never had the chance to try my hand in a restoration. Keep up the great work.
Great video! I too have an old 1750 Ct saltbox that I have painstakingly restored over the last 10 years. So glad to see you restored it Mike, and not renovated. Many blessings as you continue the process. -Mike M.
What a loving, careful restoration you've done. The house looks very cozy; it really gives me a warm feeling to watch this video. Whoever shot your video, by the way, did an ideal job--nice slow pans so we can absorb details.
So gorgeous! Thank you so much for allowing to see your work. You made great decisions. It made me sad in a way. We've come so far away from this kind of workmanship. We will never see it again.
my home is 101 years later. though I am restoring the period look, I am adding the bells and bling it near had , but keeping with the era. I love the 1700's style. you did a great job.
Mike, this a complete work of art, you have managed to retain the essence of the beautiful historic house, but make it practical for modern day use. It is a little gem 💕. In this country 🇬🇧 it would be Listed and have strict rules attached as to what can be done to it, it’s so sad that such a system is not in place in the US, so many of these types of historic homes and building can be lost forever
Such a perfect home. So much easier to care for now that it is on it ay to finished! Larger homes are very expensive for utilities etc and this will be easier in all of those ways. So quaint and will serve you and those you love for many, many years to come! Blessings and enjoy all the Holidays and all you do during your journey with this home!
Absolutely stunning. I can only imagine the feel in living in a home that has so much history, warmth, and belonging. You have done a fantastic job of resurrecting the past to provide for the present and future. I envy your accomplishment. Thank you for sharing.
from Victoria, Australia. Absolutely beautiful place, reading the comments l could not add anything else but you must Love living the dream so many of us can only day dream about. And thank you for sharing your Dream Home with us all Cheers.
Congratulations, your courage and hard work and insight and artistic innovation have saved a real treasure, which may even be the last house standing when those cheap houses of cards fall down. A very beautiful home, true to its origins but cosy and contemporary. Well done.
Very nicely done Mike! I'm like you from the preserve and protect aspect of historic places! I just am not much of a builder (thank God!) I would be the music maker of the home, playing early guitar songs that would add some lively spirit to the home. Thank you for NOT doing what the big "temporary housing" neighbor did! That place looked really awkward for sure! If only more people still lived (such as the descendants of the original builder) that VALUED our history and remembered what has been learned, more people would also protect and enjoy what our ancestors taught us! You did a great job!!
You convinced me, subscribe. Current Oxford CT resident, i say i should have been born 100 years ago. I like the old ways. My brother is revamping the house across from the green, ill find yours one day and enjoy the views from the road. I have a love for the saltbox home.
Nice Job. My wife and I are heading over to see a 1770 farmhouse for sale this afternoon and found your vids while looking up what to expect. My wife is utterly in love with this aesthetic, but I'm just trying to figure out what to look out for in regards to home maintenance and utilities. It's up in Maine, so winter heating and insulation are paramount if we get into it before the winter starts up. I'm not a restorer and it's not really the focus for us, but I would like to retain the overall look of the place while implementing some updated utilities and appliances.
I bet there would only be a handful of people in the entire world who could build a house of this quality and still be standing 258 years later! I understand a lot of people would want a home larger than 1,100 sq feet, especially in the Midwest with 3 or more children . But gosh... I would LOVE to live in a house with that much character! My two daughters would just have to bunk with one another and learn to live with it! This has to be one of the most gorgeous homes I have ever seen. I tried to get my husband to buy an old Victorian home kind of like the Painted Ladies Style. But he wouldn't, he said it would have been a money pit and honestly we would not have been able to afford it in the long haul.
Appreciated your passion & commitment to your project. This follow up, how you filmed it and the music (can't find this piece or artist unless they do metal also!). I'll be watching this over just to enjoy your great upload and hear the piano. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to share. Best of all things to you:*)
This is the most amazing home I have ever seen. It is pure perfection, just dreamy. If I won the lotto, this is what I would buy. You're truly blessed to be the owner of this incredible home.
What a wonderful, beautiful, joyous thing you have done in saving this little gem of a house from destruction! And thank you for sharing not only the process, but the end results as well. It truly IS gorgeous!!
I am so glad you had the vision, talent, and resources to preserve this amazing property and piece of American history. Thank you for sharing...you have a lovely home!
My neighbor shares your love for books and thought she needed to cull her collection to make more room. I showed her that by laying the books on their side and making stacks (using metal library book-ends to square off the bottom of each stack) we were able to almost double her shelf inventory. We gathered the tallest books and put them in a separate section, so the certain stacks wouldn't take up too much horizontal space.
Well Done Mike- fantastic to see someone who loves History and Respects the way they built back then, the craftsmanship is fantastic, The Restorations is done in a manner of sensitivity without losing the contemporary. You have turned this beautiful and majestic home back into its former Glory and it's simply wonderful, Love it!! Loved the 2 Videos, waiting for another :-)
who in their right minds would want a big modern mansion when you could have this.....how i would love to be the one to have this handed down to me.....this house is gorgeous
All that exposed wood adds a warmth and a charm that sheetrock just doesn't come close to. You've done a beautiful job. Thank you!
This is the most beautiful home I've ever come across. The workmanship and the colours are stunning.
You did a beautiful job!. Love this house. Hate to see these old houses modernized. Your house is like stepping into the past. Would luv to do this to mine.

What a beautiful home, inside and out. I lived in Connecticut. I love this stuff-I'll come back with stories. Thx!
I am typing with tears in my eyes and finding it hard to breathe because the house is beyond amazing and cozy. My heart aches because I'm not living in it! You should be a writer. This is so beautifully written I feel your home and your memories.

Beautiful. Thank you young man for your efforts to preserving craftsmanship and beauty in simplicity and honesty

Totally yummy. Exquisite taste. I love the German pyramid and the pickle on the tree. You are so deserving of this wonderful, magical place.
It's beyond beautiful...it's sublime. I'm not sure who is the luckier, you or the house. What a gift to your soul. Much happiness.
I really enjoyed your video and the house is beautiful . GREAT JOB and WELL DONE !
The house is beautiful. You have done a wonderful job. Would love to see more of the artifacts that you found.
Absolutely spectacular house!
Christmas must be an amazing experience here!🎄☃️🌨❄️🎅🏻

If those walls really could talk; oh the stories they could tell. Thank you for sharing your house with us!
With really old houses, sometimes if you pay careful attention, especially during a restoration, they do talk.......
This beautiful home exudes LOVE. I want to wrap my arms around it and feel its love and comfort. Thank you, thank you. I'm sure this house thanks you every day.
Amazing!! I'm literally crying because it's breathtaking!! ❤❤
Mike I truly believe you are an Old Soul that perhaps lived here before. To love a house with so much passion and unselfishness is astounding. May God continue to bless you and your magnificent home. Thank you for sharing.
I most enjoyed the close ups of the wooden floor, door, and handles. Centuries of wear and patina. Beautiful.
Incredible job. I have a 1890 Victorian I love old houses
What an incredible structure -- and it's so warm and homey. Nice job.
I cant believe someone was going to just knock that place down.
i reckon would have been a big loss for sure .
Great job Mike. We were about to purchase 1788 Federal in Derby CT in 2000 but Chrysler transferred me here to Michigan. So I never had the chance to try my hand in a restoration. Keep up the great work.

Having been born in 1960, sometimes I feel old, then I think of your house.
This restoration is wonderful! Love when historic homes are restored - they are so unique and full of so much emotion - they are story tellers.
A lot of love has gone into that home, it is so beautiful. I wish walls would talk, what stories it could tell. ❤️🏴

Finally someone plays wonderful background music to the video!!!
Love the crushed stone. To me, it added to the appeal of the property.
Well done and thank you.
Very Nice Great Job.
What a wonderful, beautiful, joyous thing you have done in saving this little gem of a house from destruction! And thank you for sharing not only the process, but the end results as well. It truly IS gorgeous!!
So thoughtfully executed. Very inviting.
Such a great house. Thank you for your hard work and attention to history. I can't imagine that anyone would tear that house down.
The house looks larger on the inside than the outside. It is so nice, thanks for sharing.
It's a Tardis. LOL. Bigger on the inside.
Thank you, Mike. Your love for the house shows. It is so lovingly restored, and is beautiful and cozy. Congratulations!
Breathtakingly beautiful! You preserved the soul of the home ... exquisite!
Thanks for saving your home. Very beautiful.
I am so glad you had the vision, talent, and resources to preserve this amazing property and piece of American history. Thank you for sharing...you have a lovely home!

I LOVE this house! You are so very lucky to own such a beautiful piece of American history!
Man, you are dedicated. I love history but I'm not sure I'd go digging into the outhouse pit looking for artifacts.
Again, great job! I love the crushed stone, the wall, the steel grate...everything is cool without trying too hard. Bravo.
