it's why a lot of people hated the Celtics in the mid-80's, Bird, McHale, Ainge, Sichting, Wedman, Kite, Carlisle, Lohaus, Paxson, Walton, Roberts, Acres....they very often had 5 white guys on the court.
When Kelly Tripucka arrived with Isiah they put the Pistons on map. Kelly went toe-to-toe with some great small forwards. Dr. J, Bird, Alex English, Dominique, Adrian Dantley, and his #1 rival. BERNARD KING.
Never thought I'd see it again in Boston but Mahorn's right, KP, Pritchard and Hauser are a pretty good collection of great white shooters we haven't seen on the same team in a long time.
The NBA is an international game now. The league is basically colorless in 2024. Laimbeer will always be my favorite and needs to be in the HoF. He was the original deep 3 center.
Jerry West, Rick Barry, Cousy, Chambers, Nowitzki, Bobby Jones, Paul Westphal, Mark Price, Mullin, Pettit, Kevin Love, Jeff Hornacek, Brian Winters, Kiki Vandeweghe, Sikma, Laimbeer, Issel
Let me do this comments section a favor: dude didn't play with Walton in Boston. His last year there was '84 - '85 and Walton didn't join until the following season.
On days when I was on my game ballin with friends they’d make reference to Mark Price. *Price* *price* *baby* they’d say (like the vanilla ice jam) when I pulled off a cool assist or whatever.
As a 90s Bulls fan, I'm gonna have to go with Longley, Wennington, Kukoc, Buechler, Kerr. They may not be the greatest white guys to play the game, but they helped the Bulls get three rings and that's gotta count for something!
My top 2 by position that I saw. Center: Bill Walton &; Kevin McHale. Power Forward: Dirk Nowitki & Tom Chambers. Small Forward: Larry Bird & Detlef Schremp. Shooting Guard: Chris Mullen & Manu Ginobili. Point Guard: John Stockton & Mark Price
This begs an interesting question. What is the greatest team of non-European white players you could put together consisting of guys who didn't play with Maxwell? My guards would be Jerry West and John Stockton (shooting gives him the nod over Bob Cousy), with Rick Barry at small forward and Bill Walton at center. Now, what about power forward? I would have to go with Bob Pettit, although that is going back a long ways. For a sixth man, you could include Canadian Steve Nash. This is all off the top of my head, so I'm probably forgetting somebody I'll wish I had mentioned.
Glad to see Rick Barry gettin' some love on here. One of the very few white men to ever win a scoring title. Two if you count ABA. And to this day he's still the all-time Finals ppg leader too. Yeah, you read that right, even ahead of MJ. (although Money played a lot more total games)
George Mikan, Bird, McHale , west, Stockton. Walton , Barry and Maravich off the bench. If you are counting Europeans then Joker and Genobli. I don't remember that good European player's name who got killed in a car accident. Mark Price was pretty good too.
@@bryanfox6726 True but with Bird Barry and West shooting don't see much left for the Center outside. Theyd feed McHale Walton Hondo, imagine Pistol Pete off the bench. Jokic Doncic Stockton J.Williams be quite a game there's many more
@bryanfox6726 That sounds good to me. Barry absolutely could play shooting guard instead of small forward. As great as West was, however, I think I'd have Stockton at point because of his assist-making ability. I would even put Luka in there instead. His size presents a big problem for most defenders. And though he gets sloppy at times, his passing is elite.
@@anthonyrobinson-ew7hi I was just about to mention Gail Goodrich. He and Jerry West were a great pair in that 72 Lakers backcourt. Wikipedia says that he was the leading scorer on that team, which won 33 straight games, still the record for the NBA. I would put them in the conversation for best all-white backcourt that actually played together.
As defenders, I'd find a way to get AK and Bobby Jones somewhere on a 15-man roster. If Luka and Jokic (and possibly Chambers/Kiki) are playing a lot of minutes, you'd need more defense that doesn't need touches. McHale, West, Walton and Stockton were really good-excellent, Bird was great team/meh 1v1. If we take attitudes/chemistry into consideration, I'd leave Rick Barry and Laimbeer off because they were notoriously hard to like. I feel like Petit would enjoy being on an all-white team TOO much, so I'd scratch him, too. This is all talk leaning into building a team, not pure talent. Wilt was offensively way more talented than Russell, but with the exact same teammates around them, I'd pick Bill.

See, it is possible to have fun, lighthearted discussions involving race. This is how it's supposed to be. Everybody is so touchy and triggered nowadays, it's sad.
Even some of the 'older brothers' forget some of the best white players of all time. Shocking to see these "80s NBA players" that are not historians of the past NBA. Maravich is always criminally underrated; the 'original Magic Johnson.' No Bob Cousy, of the Boston Celtics original dynasty? Strange. No John Stockton; one of the best PGs of all time? Sad. No Dirk Nowitzki of the Mavericks? Strange.
Best white team of all time...Bird, Jokic, Stockton for sure, Luka, Nowitzski? Maybe Jerry West? Drazen was a bad boy too. The all black team would win 60-70% of the time but it would be because of their superior defense IMO. The all white teams can easily score with them but being slower hurts on D. Had Bill Walton not had to deal with the surgeries and injuries he had to deal with. He could play with anyone white, black, brown or yellow. You guys have to mention race. That's why I no longer watch the nba because of their WOKENESS.

Larry is 1 of the greatest regardless of race
Bird & McHale alone in their prime is in the direction of or in the conversation with
-Magic & Kareem
-MJ & Scotty
Can't ignore Tom Chambers or Bob Petit who in his best season averaged 31 pts and 19 rebounds. Not too many players have had numbers like that.
My boys and I used to watch that Chambers dunk over and over. Ya' know the one I'm talkin' about. Waist damn near at the rim.

Bobby Jones was a monster on defense, but none of these guys played with him.

I'd go Cowens over Walton, ONLY because Walton had so much time out due to foot issues.
