Unfortunately it's because the movie is not very popular, therefore reactors don't choose it because it's usually won't get a lot of views. But I agree with you it is very incredible and I'm happy I watched it
With history this movie and book , while not exactly synchronized, seems to have stood the test of time….. indeed, some of these commentary videos are within the last 6 years
This is from a very old way of thinking. This movie is based on a book I read when I was in my teens. I’m almost 60. When I was 15 my dad died after a long, really awful battle with cancer. My mom started drinking heavily everyday, to the point that she was basically useless to my siblings and me. I was the oldest daughter so a lot fell on my shoulders. It was like losing both parents at once. I came extremely close to making the same choice that Annie made in this movie. I had a couple of failed attempts. I read this book, and the book goes into so much more detail about what it’s like for someone who dies at their own hand. They don’t know they have died, they stay in their terrible lives, but a much worse version of it. Everything goes wrong, all the time. I can honestly say that this book saved my life at that time. Fear of existing in even more pain, in a more horrific life stopped me from doing something really stupid. This movie and book will always hold a special place in my heart. And the book is very different, and much better, than the movie.
Unfortunately it’s not really an old way of thinking. I mean it is of course, but this is based on religious views of ending your life that are still extremely prominent today. When my brother passed from an overdose, my dad's church believed it was on purpose even though we know it wasn’t, and they made sure to announce to the entire congregation that my brother wasn’t going to heaven and used my brother's passing as a “lesson”. I was long gone from the church/religion for over a decade at that point but that was the day my father left the church as well. This is sadly still a very prominent view in Christianity today.
@@mausilw that’s absolutely terrible!! I’m so sorry for the loss of your brother and the insensitive and inexcusable way it was handled by the clergy at that church. Yes within most religions suicide is still considered a heinous sin, I think with more people walking away from religion the general public’s mindset and the mental health profession have a different and much more compassionate perspective about it.
I’m so sorry you had to deal with this. You sound like a very strong individual and I wish you nothing but easier roads ahead. I love this movie for many reasons. If you relate to the themes of this movie I might suggest a dark comedy of the name Wristcutters. It’s a dark romantic comedy that takes place in a “purgatory” of sorts and two individuals who left the world of their own accord navigate this weird world to find each other. If those themes aren’t hurtful to you then I would definitely suggest a watch. Again, I’m sorry that you had to deal with all that trauma. Sending you good vibes and sunshine for days ahead.
This is a wonderful film. Its absence in the reaction video circuit is a mystery. Sure, it's a tearjerker, but so are many other films, and many Robin Williams films are tearjerkers. The visuals in this film are magnificent. A true work of art! 👍👍
The movie title is a quote from Hamlet, where he is considering un-aliving himself. He debates whether to face the pain of living or to "sleep" but then "what dreams may come"? He doesn't know whether the punishment of un-aliving himself will be worse then the pain he feels in life. I'm assuming that this movie had to deal with these themes because it's an exploration of the "what comes after" concept. So yes, the themes around unaliving in this movie are hundreds of years old.
When I was a child and people spoke about heaven, it was always described as this clean space, without fear or need for food or emotion and I always imagined it as a big white void. I hated the thought of heaven. Then I saw this movie and it’s what I wanted to believe heaven is. A place where we still have passion and we still have imperfection but it’s what we love. And I love the idea of being able to go to other people’s heavens. The problem with that idea is that I also want to believe that even “evil people” go to heaven because, in my mind, evil is a broken brain, not a broken soul. So if someone truly bad dies, what part of themselves would they retain? Also, I’m not religious, so everything I’m saying is a reflection of my wants, not my faith.
I find it adorable and and so brave that a child version of yourself hated the thought of Heaven because it was too perfect and too clean haha I love how you described it. Imperfection but it's what we love. I think that's a very beautiful perspective on evil people not having a broken soul
My mom was sick for a very long time, before she passed we had a conversation about the afterlife and what we thought of it. She told me she would set off a fire alarm in her house and i would know she was okay. I had just finished packing up all of her belongings and was standing alone in her bedroom when the fire alarm went off in the hall and i knew she was fine, she gave me that gift and I felt peace and happiness for her. Ill see her again someday
It's been a while since I've seen this movie, so I might be off with some of the nuances. But I felt like this movie wasn't trying to say that people who ended their own life deserved their awful afterlife. But that in the movie's world, people's subconscious and conscious both manifest their afterlife. So their take on "hell" would be someone who's inner world is so sad and damaged that when they pass, they unfortunately give power to that pain they felt at the end of their life and manifest it as their afterlife. Like if someone took their own life because they felt like they deserved it, then sadly they'd be stuck manifesting a world that brought that mindset into reality. With the rules the movie describes about the afterlife, I think it is unimaginably tragic, but that it kind of makes sense. Like a showing of the dark underbelly of the human imagination and the dark things we can make ourselves live with.
Thanks for watching with me. I'm not sure how this movie will perform on TH-cam because it's not very popular with reactions.. so please remember to "LIKE" the video if you liked the video and share your thoughts in the comments. It really helps with the TH-cam algorithm Thanks
I think the thought behind her going where she did was that those who choose to end things are weighed down by a lot of despair, hopelessness, and sadness. It’s a lot of weight on the soul and we can end up in lower vibrations or states. Kind of like The Asphodel Meadows or Elysian Fields in Greek mythology
As someone who has suffered from depression and mental illness all their life, to me its not that some greater all knowing god condemning her to hell... her mental state did. She's so caught up in this all enveloping darkness that she cant escape.. not on her own. Christy, the light of her life, shows her how to find that light within herself and thus she breaks free from her own private hell. Its not a condemnation of the act, its an imposed prison by the state of her mind. This movie... this impression, has kept me alive on nights when it all feels too dark. What a lot of people dont know is suicide is a sneaky force that lays in wait under all your thoughts. When the tiniest thing goes wrong it peeps up "hey. Ya know you dont have to live like this... you could just end it" and every other part of your brain smacks it down but the thought was still heard, quietly in the background. So imagine Annie, with so many things going so very wrong, she doesnt have many other healthy thoughts to batter that quiet whisper to the far reaches. How weighty that must be.
Indeed, in the book , non of her 4 children die, the film , her 2 children are killed…. The film “ANNA” is more sympathetic than the book “ANNA”…. Both good works though….
This is, hands down, my favorite Robin Williams film and it is in my top three favorite movies. I am so glad to see more people discovering and being moved by it.
See, I always felt this movie came the closest to what may be. From an intuition perspective. The point of "Hell" is self-inflicted. Annie chose to be consumed by her grief, her paintings, her wants, and her emotions. Chris spent his time focusing on others and even he had a hard time letting go and accepting death and leaving Annie. But Annie is so caught up in her own life and her own pain, that she couldn't see anything else - and naturally, but horribly, when she passed on, the world that she built for herself was one wholly consumed by her grief and self-loathing as there aren't any other minds/people there to bring her light. Personally, I don't think it's outdated. I think it's timeless. Why would someone like Annie suddenly see the light now that she's dead? She wouldn't. It may not be forcefully equitable, but it IS fair and it IS equal and therefore it's truly Free. And wholly without Judgement from some external power. The only thing judging Annie was herself and she condemned herself to be miserable. It was HER choice. Chris, when he went to save her, presented to her another choice, one that was always there, but one that she just couldn't and wouldn't see. Just my two cents.
Robin Williams could have done a movie based entirely on outhouses and I would have been one of the first in line. Thanks for stepping off the trails already blazed. It makes for some beautiful scenery many never see. ♥
Transforming tragedy into beauty is a favorite theme of mine and this movie does a wonderful job. Everything in this movie is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing with us friend 🙏
Thank you for watching this one, I really love it and always cry. I appreciate you giving something a chance, just cause it doesn't have a lot of people reacting to it, doesn't mean it's not great. :)
THANK YOU so much for reacting to this. I watched this for the first time last year when my dog died after being hit by a car. I basically cried the entire movie.
So intense. I first saw this film as a teen and it made a massive impression. I think what's represented is not so much an outdated perspective on suicide but a traditional/Christian one that very much still exists and informs dominant discourse around the subject. It's still most common to say "committed suicide" as if it's a crime right. Learning about using "died by suicide" instead was an impactful shift for me. It's still incredibly rare to be able to talk about suicidality without risk of alienation and institutionalization. My most constant companions through most of the last 20yrs were my dog and 2 cats. They all died in the last few years. I've been fascinated by all the ways they continue to manifest. The other day I woke up and felt the duvet indent next to me as if under my one cat's weight. I reached out to pet air. It was strangely comforting. I catch characteristic movement in the corner of my eye sometimes and hear characteristic sounds. I find it more likely that it's all in my head: that I'm manifesting them. But who knows, some kind of energy could also remain. Fascinating either way. Beautiful reaction Frank. I always appreciate your candor (or frankness lol) and sensitivity ❤
I hear you. I didn't want to get into the traditional/Christian believes that fuel that way of thinking cuz I don't want religious people coming at me with pitchforks in the comment section. But yes similar to the topic of divorce and how so many people remain in toxic harmful relationships because divorce is considered a sin. I'm sorry to hear about your babies who are no longer here. For what is worth I do believe that some energy or soul of them still lingers because of how much they love you. Thanks for sharing that. That sounds comforting indeed. My wife has all but convinced me that it actually exists and we often talk about ghosts in our apartment casually. Thank you very much. Regardless of how anything on this channel is going I always know that my frankness will be appreciated by you guys. 🧡😁
@@FrankFreezy_ So cool about your wife and you! I think it's a good approach, casual acknowledgment. Between dead pet energies and OCD intrusive thoughts I've got a lot manifesting around me at any given moment and being calm and accepting about it is the way forward for sure
This came out when I was about 10 years old and I used to watch it on repeat once it was on video at blockbuster. It shaped me and was so pivotal in who I became. There is not a time when I think about this movie that my heart doesn’t clench in a bittersweet feeling.
I am always surprised that more reactors don't watch this movie. Especially those moved by Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting. Thank you for doing this!
Thanks for this! You are the first reactor that i follow to watch this one. It’s one of my favorites, and dont know why more people dont know about it. 👍🏻 In regards to a lot of the comments criticizing religious views of suicide. I would push back and say that this movie is an artistic, creative, and narrow interpretation of death, grief, and the afterlife to serve the narrative and purpose that the author was exploring in the story. An actual Christian view on this topic is much deeper, and requires further investigation and actually may be a little closer to how the story eventually ends. There are plenty of bad actors in Christianity who misinterpret and teach nonsense, dont let them mislead you from learning the true nature of the faith. And dont let the details on this topic in the movie keep you from enjoying how incredibly beautiful this movie is. Thanks again for a great reaction to one of my favorites 👍🏻
The actor you were wondering about didn't play Dumbledore. Depending on the film, that was Richard Harris or Michael Gambon. This actor was Max von Sydow, who has had probably the most unpredictable career in history over its span of 72 years. He's been in high art cinema directed by Ingmar Bergman, high fantasy like Conan the Barbarian, sci-fi like The Black Hole and Flash Gordon, and movies that just expect you to sit down and have a good laugh, like Strange Brew. But every role, you can see that he approached it with utter commitment and professionalism. It's worth skimming his filmography for ideas for reactions.
When this came out I had only seen Robin Williams in comedies and it hit different. It isn't a movie to watch lightly. I've only watched it a couple times and each time it really makes you think. In your question on the paranormal, I did have an experience which I saw something, it's hard to explain what happened, but was like a white translucent being.
Been recommended this movie so many time based on my tastes but I've always avoided it for some reason. Anxious to see what I've been missing. Commenting for algorithm :)
@@FrankFreezy_ I think it was visually stunning but I gotta be honest I was struggling quite a bit with almost everything else. Just emotionally. I have had a very suicide-adjacent life and recently dealing with some love chaos. This was a melancholy watch-along.
I agree with you, it is backwards to send someone to hell for taking their own life. I don't know if I believe in a heaven or hell, but I sure hope those who suffered so much in life are not subjected to more suffering in the after-life.
Authoritarian religions condemn those for taking their own lives, as they are defying the power hierarchy. According to such authoritarian doctrines, people are not free to do as they please, especially when it comes to life, death, sex, etc. When you take power over your own life, the people in Power lose that power over you, and that is why they condemn you.
Have you seen Hook? A really fun Robin Williams movie. I also totally agree regarding the different places for different types of "endings." It is very judgmental and unnecessary and shocked me a bit. :/
It's considered a sin in many religions, to take one's own life. In those religions, souls go to purgatory, hell, etc. It's not a new concept. In today's society, we approach the subject with much more understanding and offer help to those who need/deserve it. I really enjoyed your commentary! ❤❤ Great reaction ❤❤
This masterpiece should be much more reacted to and appreciated. Hopefully this silly lil comment will feed the fickle algorithm. Always appreciate your takes. (I'm no longer practicing, but I was raised in a very stern Lutheran family/church/faith that very much promoted the idea that if you take your own life, you are dammed to hell for all eternity. That alone is one of the main reason I don't subscribe to organized religion.)
I hear you on that one. I've always seen it as a fear-mongering tactic to make people "believe" and stay in line, and not sin. Same thing with people staying in abusive relationships because the church considers divorces a sin. Wild Thanks for sharing :)
@@marshallsobin4879 not sure why you're so aggressive. We don't seem to be talking about the same things at all and I don't wish to get escalated on the internet with people I don't know. Hope you enjoy your week.
I love this movie but I can't watch it too often because It makes me cry so much. I was raised in a christian household and we were always taught that if you killed yourself you went to hell, same as with any other really bad sin, so I imagine that's where the idea originates from. I don't believe in any of that anymore, and I'd love to be able to reunite with my loved ones on the other side. I also feel so much love for Robin Williams, and I wish he had been healthy enough to stick around for longer. He always seemed like he felt so deeply.
I'm glad you don't believe in that anymore. I don't as well. Some of it is just very cruel. Reuniting with our loved ones on the other side sounds amazing. I wish I had known Robin Williams before he passed. But from the few movies of his that I've seen, what a beautiful man
Thank you Sir so much for watching this movie. I cried so much the first time I have seen this movie. I know I will Not be able to watch this movie again without you. So thank you again Sir. I Hope that Robin Williams found a wonderful place and maybe it was providence that Robin Williams made this movie. When a Person dies, there is no heaven or hell, only an individual state of consciousness. That is what I believe. Best wishes from Germany 👋..
. You are very welcome. I'm glad you were able to watch the film again with me. I believe it was Providence too that Robin Williams was the one in this film. I like your perspective about the individual state of consciousness. Greetings from the US😊😊
I love you reacted to this movie. Totally underrated. It’s an artistic interpretation of what may happen after death. The visuals of this film I have never seen since. I have seen this film many many times. And it gets me every time. The idea of soul mates intrigues me. It’s a beautiful love story. My good lady and I have watched your reaction tonight and we have both been in tears. I have seen your Ted Lasso reactions (which I love) but this is a movie you need to watch maybe before you make a judgment. Remember the darts scene in TL in season 1 episode 8 - be curious not judgmental.
I think it's a religious belief that people who take their own life don't go to heaven, specifically Catholicism. It's considered a sin, an affront to God, some people believe that those who take that path don't get into Gods kingdom. Super harsh imo but the main couple in the movie are religious so their afterlife is reflecting their beliefs.
Super harsh indeed. And I like that perspective. They're afterlife is reflecting their beliefs. So freaking sad. They had a happy ending but all the people that didn't have someone to literally fight through hell to save them, What Becomes of them? S*** is heartbreaking. Thanks for elaborating
Thank you for posting this! I was going to post something like this if no one else had. It makes me angry that this particular belief is so very deeply embedded in our society. Whew. I have lots of opinions on this stuff since I've worked with Healthcare and Hospice folks. And I'm getting all worked up about it so I shall wander off for the night. Thank you again.
If I remember correctly, this movie flopped or at least critics didn't like it, but Robin is so fantastic in it. About the "deleting yourself" topic: I wanted to do it (childhood trauma but I am more like a "planner", not a "doer" lol) and even though I don't believe in the afterlife and ghosts and stuff, I understand why ending yourself considered as a sin. Those people who got into heaven in this movie lived through the life they were meant to live, but if you "cut short" your life that wouldn't be... fair to others, maybe? I am so grateful that you watched it!
I'm grateful that you were just a planner, not a doer. I'm happy you're still here. I think the conversation around suicide is so nuanced. Because there are people out there who cut it short because they were mentally ill, blackmailed, abused, literally had no other choice, etc etc etc.. So having them be punished for that does not seem fair in any way shape or form. Nobody ends their lives just because they felt like it on a Tuesday. They're probably going to the hardest shit possible. And the whole idea of calling suicide a sin always seemed like a fear-mongering tactic to me. In the same way some Christians use the damnation of hell to scare people to ascribe to their Doctrine
@@FrankFreezy_ If I remember correctly, the Bible were changed many times during its history, in the middle ages the Catholic Church changed it just to be able to gain more control over people, so it isn't really the fault of the Bible or the Christian religion, hell and ending yourself weren't in there, but maybe I am wrong. Also, back in the days mental health wasn't a thing, people didn't know about depression or trauma, not to this extent at least, so it is hard to understand for "modern people" this way of thinking. I am not religious, but if I would be, I would go for Christianity. It has the best moral compass in the world (the New Testament, not the Old one tho) and Western society was "built on it" as well. The Catholic Church is a totally different story tho and its existence is quiet funny considering how Jesus hated "centralized" religious institutions, not to mention the idol worship and the donations during the mass lmao
Wow... I never thought I'd see the day someone would watch this film... This film is one of the best of all time, a movie ahead of its time and the type of film that will probably will never get made again, art in cinema in the purest form... This film will always remind me of my relationship with my father, who was gone in 2015. I was watching a couple of your reactions, and was really liking them, but now, this sealed the deal for me, because very few people will open their mind to this film even risking the video not being too popular. This movie is for sure a journey to take, ty so much for reacting to it.
I think people get the idea of hell in this movie very wrong. The figure of Chris' son in the body of 'doc' already explained it - it's the realization about what went wrong in life. It's a mental state, not really a place. Annie is punishing herself, she isn't being punished by some entity like the devil or something.
I remember i recomend this one for you long time ago. I am glad You watched it, it doesnt disapoint i hope. This is beautiful movie, now I also recomend "I am Sam" (different but worth watching).
In a way we dont fully understand, I believe your sister and father are together, like my brother and father. I hope youre having a wonderful night my friend
Frank, when I think of my parents on the other side, I imagine them as every age: babies in the arms of their own mothers; children playing; a girl at her prom, a boy escaping into his love of reading. They are grandparents. They are newlyweds. They are people I both know and never knew. I ache with missing them, and I try so hard to believe that they exist and are happy and that they love.
I always liked the concept, from the Sandman comics (spoilers if you haven’t read it) But people go to hell because they think that’s where they belong. They aren’t being held there against their will, they’re punishing themselves because they think they deserve it. Wild concept. Especially if you find out you don’t have to stay there.
You should react to Bicentennial Man. It's another Robin Williams movie that very few TH-camrs react to, but it's beautiful and also about love and what it means to be human. It's one of my favorite movies, period.
I think the bigger picture is that not all souls are lost and condemned to hell and that the spirit can find a way to be free suicide was just the way they chose to convey the message because most people today still believe suicide is a gateway to hell.
It just occurred to me that Robin Williams made more than one film about a suicide. It somehow makes his own end feel even more tragic. Be at peace, beautiful soul.
Something can't really be unfair if we do it to ourselves. In this universe which is based on religious dogma as much as it tries to stay away from it, they say when a human soul gets to that point they can't stop folding in on themselves. So I see what you are saying but it is a valid way of thinking about it. I say it as someone who nearly succeeded like Annie. Also, can't really say it's outdated but that it's a biblical view.
My dad and i watched this movie so many times. Unfortunately he took his life when i was 17. He was my custodial parent so it really changed my entire life for the worse. I lost my dad, my home, my things, and what felt like my future all 3 days before i started my senior year of hs and 4 days after i turned 17. Everyone ALWAYS compared him to Robin which was also my dads name. Even strangers ar the store would say he reminded them of robin. His funeral was packed people who had only met him once. After he died though for years i pictured him trapped like annie. This is such a beautiful movie. A masterpiece really. Everyone loves the note book but i think this is actually the love story that should have prevailed. So many have never seen it and thats such a shame. Excited to see what you think of it.
To respond to your concerns about the outdated views on what happens to those who do THAT to themselves, sadly that’s traditional doctrine in some faiths. The sea of faces is one of the things described in Dante’s Inferno, though I don’t think it’s actual canon. I know I don’t believe in that part of doctrine - partly because of selfish reasons (I have had thoughts like that before), but also because I believe in a God of mercy who doesn’t punish people for their illnesses. That’s just my take, but I thought I’d share. Thank you for being so vulnerable with us.
Thanks for sharing. I guess there are just some things from religion that I choose to believe in and others that don't just work for me. like you said why would God punish people who are suffering or had no hand in their demise.
Annie is in her own grief and guilt and anger for her life in the earthly world..how it turned out. She hardened her heart to everything and fell to darkness. Of course what happened to her affected her psyche in a way she couldn't recover from..she lost her faith in life..and she didn't seek purpose in her grief to keep her going, knowing that our earthly lives are just a temporary passing through of our eternal souls in heaven - as depicted in the movie. The afterlife is what we have to have faith in, no matter what earthly, physical and emotional pain we are going through. So many say they feel so much pain they had no choice but to desperately end their earthly pain..because as we see as an example in this movie. The afterlife has no pain, naturally speaking, both kids and Robin Williams were physically hurt (in the physical world) but once their souls hit their heaven, zero pain in heaven. Annie didn't believe anything could take away her physical and emotional world pain, but if you believe in the afterlife, ending your life wouldn't cross your mind..Life on earth is purposeful each and everyone's life. No matter how you need to get through emotions of grief and sadness, you have to make peace and find purpose in your own life's purpose..your family will see you again in the afterlives ..if you believe. Idk, just thoughts that came to mind after watching this movie. Thank you for the reaction:)
Actually, not exactly, the film, not the book, ALBERT, who CHRIS already knows is IAN, restrains him from entering that firery chamber….. “Ian your mother is not in there”
@26:30 What the movie is saying is that when we die, we create our own reality in the afterlife. So if you are consumed with guilt and do what Annie did, you create the reality that you need to be punished. If, deep down you don't feel like you deserve punishment for your actions in life, then your afterlife won't have any punishment. It's not saying that there's no choice in the matter, but that it's ALL about choice. I believe that the message is that there's always redemption, that doing something like Annie did (I won't say the word either), doesn't mean that you are forced into hell for eternity like some religions teach. And on a personal note, I believe that our souls are more than what we are when we are alive. In my opinion, Annie could have been completely lost in guilt and blamed herself in life, but her soul in death would know it wasn't her fault. So she wouldn't have gone into her personal hell, because she would know that she didn't deserve punishment. She'd know none of their deaths were truly her fault and that she didn't cause their deaths maliciously.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. So much meaningful dialog, the whole film is spectacular! I am a total believer. I've had a lot of loss in my life, I'm 60 now. My parents are gone, my brothers, most of my aunts/uncles & some cousins. Thank God I have my adult kids ❤ When I was 22, I was in a head-on collision & almost died. I had a near death experience & I believe it was real. The connection between life & death is, imo pretty thin. I mean, I feel my mom & Gram when I make Italian cookies or a meal they taught me & I speak to my loved ones every day. I do believe that we are the same people when it's our time & we go to the other side, but I don't think we have anymore fears. Such a gorgeous movie, so many beautiful moments then, the next tragedy......I can go on & on but it'll be a novel. Oh my goodness hun, I had to edit this cuz I just came to the point of the reaction when you told us about your sister. I am so so sorry, I know it's apart of life but it sucks so much when we lose someone we love.
This movie is one of my favorites of all time. It never fails to make me cry. The visuals are stunning and frightening. I agree with you about the opinions about how Annie's life ended and how she seemed to be punished. I always assumed that was a religious addition, but there really weren't any other hints of the family being religious other than the church (looks catholic? Maybe? ) during the funerals. Love your reaction, I was crying right along with you.
I wanted to watch the movie again, but not by myself - it was the most beautiful experience to watch it with you. Your kind and warm comments - it was so much more to watch it this way. When you talked about suicide and an outdated view - modern NDE accounts seem to hint at the possibility that people go to that dark place only if they themselves feel that they deserve that somehow or that this is where they should go… and that they can be saved if they realize that they are loved. This could make sense then for Annie, more than the act itself - so maybe this is the reason why she went, not the act... All my best wishes to you.
Never thought I'd get to see a reaction to this film! I adore it. Been one of my favourite lesser known films for a long long time! Also, if you'd really like to see some of Robins amazing range it might be worth checking out One Hour Photo! It's a LOT different but still very very good. Even if just in your own time it's worth seeing in my opinion.
I remember seeing the trailer and it looked visually stunning. I was in highschool at the time and I wanted to go see it with my girlfriend and friend after smoking a joint. My friend said, I don't wanna see something that's gonna make me cry. I was like No, it'll be trippy. Boy was I wrong.
9:43 i thought for a second you were gonna say City of Angels ( 1998 ) another great movie not often reacted to on a similar subject Ive also always seen it as backwards since you need a complete loss of ego to voluntarily leave this world and its a loss of ego that is what most religions try to teach so i would think making the choice to leave would earn you an express ticket to heaven Other movie adaptations of richard matheson writtings are i am legend and Real Steel . He also wrote some classic twilight zone episodes in the early 60s
Not enough reactors watch this movie. It's incredible!
Unfortunately it's because the movie is not very popular, therefore reactors don't choose it because it's usually won't get a lot of views. But I agree with you it is very incredible and I'm happy I watched it
With history this movie and book , while not exactly synchronized, seems to have stood the test of time….. indeed, some of these commentary videos are within the last 6 years
My thoughts exactly!
And the book is very different, and much better, than the movie.
wow. I'm so sorry you went through that. All that trauma and responsibility has such a young age. I'm happy you persevered and you are here today🧡🧡
@@FrankFreezy_ thanks! 😊. Now I’ve got two great kids and 5 beautiful grandbabies! I would have hated for the world to miss out on them. ❤️
One of my favorites. I watched this alone in an empty theater back in 98, and cried my eyes out. RIP Robin, you are missed.
Alone in the theater? That must have been quite the experience.
This one can really tear your guts out, but still manage to give you hope. It's equal parts beautiful and terrifying.
Couldn't have said it better
I don’t know if it’s gives you hope but it makes you think.
This is a wonderful film. Its absence in the reaction video circuit is a mystery. Sure, it's a tearjerker, but so are many other films, and many Robin Williams films are tearjerkers.
The visuals in this film are magnificent. A true work of art! 👍👍
Totally agree
I find it adorable and and so brave that a child version of yourself hated the thought of Heaven because it was too perfect and too clean haha
I love how you described it. Imperfection but it's what we love.
I think that's a very beautiful perspective on evil people not having a broken soul
I appreciate anyone who reacts to What Dreams May Come! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Many thanks to you for watching
My mom was sick for a very long time, before she passed we had a conversation about the afterlife and what we thought of it. She told me she would set off a fire alarm in her house and i would know she was okay. I had just finished packing up all of her belongings and was standing alone in her bedroom when the fire alarm went off in the hall and i knew she was fine, she gave me that gift and I felt peace and happiness for her. Ill see her again someday
Oh my God. I'm glad you and your mom had that experience. It's beautiful
Don’t worry about performance.
I’m more likely to watch a reaction to a film that isn’t usually done than if I’ve seen it from dozens of other reactors
Its prolly been said in the comments before: When he calls her 'Bella', its italian for 'My Beauty'!
Continue what you do! :)
I have a lot of thoughts on this movie and subject and topic so if you ever wanna discuss!
I hear you. That makes sense. Just seems a bit unfair
@@ImmabeWendy absolutely. I would love to hear😊😊
Elysian Fields are heavenly area for noble souls so it wouldn't be like where Annie went to.
But yeah the first part of your analysis - Spot on
@@thedappermagician6905 I only mentioned it to provide alternative prospective to a heaven or even the fields.
"Bella" means "beautiful."
That is so appropriate🧡

This is a powerful movie. Thank you for reacting to it. It is probably my favorite Robin Williams movie.
Powerful indeed. Robin poured his heart and soul into this movie and it shows. Thanks for watching
I agree. However, The World According to Garp ranks right up there at the top for me.
It goes both ways. Thats why we cannot mourn our loved ones forever. We need to move on as well so they can move as well.
I like that perspective
This is, hands down, my favorite Robin Williams film and it is in my top three favorite movies.
I am so glad to see more people discovering and being moved by it.
I hope the video does well, you're a good kind person who deserves it
Many thanks😊😊
. I'm glad I did. Thanks for watching
I saw this in theatre when I was 15 and it was the first time I really bawled during a movie.

Thank you. It's a great film that deserves more attention for sure
THANK YOU so much for reacting to this. I watched this for the first time last year when my dog died after being hit by a car. I basically cried the entire movie.
Oh my goodness I'm so sorry about your dog. They all go to heaven
And thanks for watching

This came out when I was about 10 years old and I used to watch it on repeat once it was on video at blockbuster. It shaped me and was so pivotal in who I became. There is not a time when I think about this movie that my heart doesn’t clench in a bittersweet feeling.
This movie is super underrated
I am always surprised that more reactors don't watch this movie. Especially those moved by Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting. Thank you for doing this!
This movie its one of my favorites, so heartbreaking. The visuals (for the time) are insane.
Thanks for sharing my friend. I hear where you were coming from and for sharing your thoughts
Dead poet society is great. What dreams may come is wonderful. Patch Adams is an amazing film and based on a true story.
Thanks for asking my lingering question. And yes I will give him a work
I am so sorry for your losses. You handled this movie beautifully. ❤

It's already great to see that actors have way more depth than we thought initially.

I agree with you, it is backwards to send someone to hell for taking their own life. I don't know if I believe in a heaven or hell, but I sure hope those who suffered so much in life are not subjected to more suffering in the after-life.
Exactly. It just feels so Cruel
I love this movie. It is hard, but it is also beautiful. So very worth watching.
Have you seen Hook? A really fun Robin Williams movie. I also totally agree regarding the different places for different types of "endings." It is very judgmental and unnecessary and shocked me a bit. :/
I have not seen hook. A couple of people have mentioned it to me so far. Judgmental and unnecessary is right
Yea man movie is just a rescue movie with a happy ending. Great reaction.
sorry about your sister and dad. Hugs to you
It's considered a sin in many religions, to take one's own life. In those religions, souls go to purgatory, hell, etc. It's not a new concept. In today's society, we approach the subject with much more understanding and offer help to those who need/deserve it.
I really enjoyed your commentary! ❤❤ Great reaction ❤❤

Wild
Thanks for sharing :)

This movie is a heart wrenching masterpiece. ❤ Rest easy, Robin. 💐
This movie is so underrated. Im thrilled to see a reaction for this film on TH-cam. Thank you ❤
This is my second favorite film of all time, and my favorite Robyn Williams performance - thanks for showing love
One of my favourite Robin Williams films...
This movie is gorgeous and depressing at the same time.
I always liked the concept, from the Sandman comics (spoilers if you haven’t read it)
But people go to hell because they think that’s where they belong. They aren’t being held there against their will, they’re punishing themselves because they think they deserve it. Wild concept. Especially if you find out you don’t have to stay there.
I regret never having to say thank you to Robin Williams. This movie helped me get over the death of my mother.
Got it. Robin Williams I grew up with and seen what he had done. I always appreciate when actors go out side what you know them for.

yaaaaay ive been hoping you would watch this one for a long time 🫶💚
I finally did. I hope you enjoyed the video
I could never take the greatest gift I have ever been given, (my life) and just throw it back in His face.
Robins body of work over his last 25 years include, several films with a certain tragic moment

“Ian your mother is not in there”
onee of my favorites!!!
Big hugs Frank. I hope your dad and sister are somewhere playing chess in your beautiful art ❤
That is so sweet of you. Thank you very much. I hope so too💜💜
If you want some more depth, check out the last Guardians of The Galaxy. They're all good, every one, but the last film fu
This movie was so beautiful.
9:43 i thought for a second you were gonna say City of Angels ( 1998 ) another great movie not often reacted to on a similar subject
Ive also always seen it as backwards since you need a complete loss of ego to voluntarily leave this world and its a loss of ego that is what most religions try to teach so i would think making the choice to leave would earn you an express ticket to heaven
Other movie adaptations of richard matheson writtings are i am legend and Real Steel . He also wrote some classic twilight zone episodes in the early 60s
