Bor Porong-1 (বড় পরঙ-১) The Great Exodus of the Chakmas in 1964

Kaptai dam uprooted 1,00,000 indigenous peoples of Chittagong Hill Tracts in 1964. It created a lake of tears (Rangamati/Kaptai) which is larger than the Tokio metropolitan area submerging more than 21,000 hectares of fertile lands of 18,000 affected families. Compensation wasn't made, rather the government officials advised the victims to go to mountain or reserved forest areas. So, 27,000 Chakma people crossed into India and were rehabilitated in NEFA (now Arunachal). This was a Great Exodus and one of the most pathetic past of the Chakmas.
