Sella Kataragama temple is another important religious site located near the town of Kataragama in Southern Province, Sri Lanka. It is situated on the banks of the Menik Ganga river, and is considered one of the holiest places in Sri Lanka for the worship of Lord Murugan, a Hindu deity.
According to legend, Lord Murugan, also known as Skanda or Kataragama Deviyo, is believed to have visited the site and left his footprint on a rock. The footprint is now enshrined in a small shrine within the temple complex, and is a popular destination for pilgrims.

Like the Kataragama temple, Sella Kataragama is also known for its annual festival, which takes place in July or August each year. The festival is a colorful and lively affair, with thousands of devotees flocking to the temple to participate in various rituals and ceremonies.
One of the highlights of the festival is the kavadi dance, which involves devotees carrying elaborate wooden structures on their shoulders as a form of penance and devotion. The dance is accompanied by music and chanting, and is a striking display of devotion and endurance.
Visitors to Sella Kataragama temple are expected to follow certain dress codes and customs, such as removing their shoes before entering the shrines and covering their heads as a sign of respect. The temple is open to visitors of all religions and backgrounds, and is a fascinating place to explore the rich religious and cultural traditions of Sri Lanka.
