We are in Portugal now. Did a tour of the Douro valley day before yesterday. Started journey in Lisbon for 3 nights. Went to Porto and fell in love. Came to Aveiro today, then Lisbon again. Suppose to stay in Lisbon till next Friday, but decided to come back to Porto. Thanks guys, your channel is great. We know why you love this country and Porto in particular. Cheers. .

Great vid as always, and really nice music on this one to accompany the footage! Finally made it to Porto, and day to day life is better than expected :) Looks like you all were the lucky ones and got to do the Duoro valley the "comfortable" way vs the un-airconditioned train my friends and I did on arrival! Nonetheless, beautiful valley, so much to learn and see, and well worth the sweat. Heads up to your viewers as well that it's really hard to beat the mom and pop local restaurants that serve up such great meals and big portions! Best to all you guys -

we did a similar tour in Sep 2019 with a guide who drove us (and other visitors) to the Douro Valley (and back) did the cruise, wine tours and lunch. It was fantastic. Weather was spectacularly warm and our boat did not have lots of people so we were able to stretch out. There were lots of other boats on the river but never felt overrun with tourists. It was a really long day but (7am - 6pm) but well worth it.
That was amazing! Many thanks to Carlos and you all for sharing this beauty with us! I would love to see that area some day. Cia seems to be like me, by the water is my happy place! I always want to go to the water. She is so cute! Wishing much luck to Andre and Sara in their new endeavor!

Before I moved to England I actually worked on the boats that do the tours in this area (Douro Valley). We had tours going from Gaia to Régua to Pinhão and then back by train. Or from Régua to Pocinho and back by train. Each tour took about 7 hours with meals and drink included.
Thanks for this feedback. I knew about the train along the river but wasn’t sure if there were tours w/trains one way and river cruising the other way. Sounds like a great option to visit! We’re visits to wineries included? 👍🏻
@@ExpatsEverywhere to be honest I didn’t enjoy the work, you work a lot of hours for little money. Weeks without going home and I had to be on the boat for 7a.m and only left at about 10pm. It was only a seasonal job, so I worked March to September I think 🤔. But let me tell you, I learned to sleep anywhere and at the drop of a hat because I was always so tired. The trip from Pocinho back to Porto/Gaia was the hardest. We would get back by train, 4 hours to Régua, swap and then 2 hours to Porto. And because I lived in Vilar do Andorinho (part of Gaia) I still had about another 45min to an hour (depending on traffic) to get home. Got home at nearly midnight and had to be up again for 5.30am 😩.
@@ExpatsEverywhere because of always being at work, I really didn’t want to go out after, so am afraid I don’t know a lot of restaurants, if any. Plus I moved away 14 years ago 😅. Wonderful video tour (which I watched from Viana do Castelo over dinner). I hope to experience this area once I have made Portugal my home next year. And, uh, the music...I know we're supposed to be focused on your video content, but I had to stop the video in the middle of Riverside to go find out who was singing. Cut to the speakeasy sounds when entering the winery... Do you do weddings? JK. Thanks, again, for giving us a view of a slice of Portugal.
Scott!! It's so nice to read this. I literally spent several hours trying to find the right track for each "scene". It was fun of course, but time consuming. Did you find the artist for Riverside (James Spaite)? When I found that song for that part of the video, I started to learn the lyrics and sing a long with it 😂 It's a good jam! I appreciate that you've pointed out the audio elements here so don't worry that you didn't focus on the video, the two are supposed to go hand in hand or at least music is supposed to amplify the video experience. Well, we need to get planning as we want to go there and Porto! That riverboat cruise looks fun and you can never go wrong with a wine tour! Loved Kalie being all fancy!! Question...We don't want to drive so is it possible to see a lot without a car? We want to go by train! Thanks for the great video!!
Thanks, Tamara. You can get to Pinhão by train and then take the river cruises there other than that without a car or a driver/tour, we're not sure. The walking distances might be pretty large. - Josh & Kalie
You totally can. Trains go up the Douro River and back, it is the perfect one day tour. Pinhão and Régua train stations are located in the center, so there is a lot to see within walking distance. Some scheduled trains are composed of traditional locomotive and carriages, with opening windows and confy seats for no extra fare. There are group ticket discount, check out cp.pt . Obviously the scenic places on top of hills will be a bit far, because the train line follows the Douro valley, while roads climb up and down the hills. Going to Pinhão and back by train can be a very different experience to someone who just did it by car.
Absolutely gorgeous! How far is the Douro River from the center of Porto? Is it accessible by public transit? How about the Quinta you visited, is that area reachable by bus? I look forward to seeing it all and love the beautiful green vineyards and valley terraces. Wow!
Greetings from Porto. The Douro Valley is the oldest demarcated region of regulated wine production in the world. It was instituted in 1756, on the 10th of September. The valley starts about 120 km from Porto and extends eastwards towards the Spanish border, following the river. Access to the valley has improved substantially in recent years, but still, the most convenient way for anyone who wants to move within the valley is by car. The train takes us to the city of Régua or a few kilometers further on to the village of Pinhão. Although Pinhao is a very small village, there are hotels, restaurants, riverboat cruises, and several wineries you can visit walking where you can do wine tastings. The views of the valley are breathtaking, but sometimes a little intimidating, due to the many curves, narrow roads, and almost unguarded cliffs. Still, a trip not to be missed.

Watch this holiday video. I'm so happy Greetings from tourism actors in Lombok ... but I'm sad that activities are still bamned and hopefully when you can vacation in lombok. Yes, but if you can, find out about Lombok through videos. and give input for my progress.thnks
Very nice. Looked like a perfect day, no clouds and I didn't notice anyone sweating - is it like that every day? In any location I enjoy seeing where new construction incorporates local natural stone (or barrels), they seem take care to preserve this asthetic. I'm wondering how much a bottle of good wine or port costs over there; Portuguese wines seem way overpriced in the US, I think its because of the tariffs. I was hoping to see Duoro vineyard women crushing grapes in vats with their feet, I guess they don't do that anymore.
Beautiful places! Was this in August or September? (I only ask because it didn't appear to be terribly hot) Also, I noticed more people wearing masks than in the videos of the past few months. (The US has become so divided with this,...it really makes me sad.) I'm delighted to see people in Portugal happily wearing masks! 👍 What a gem you found in Carlos! An awesome day overall! Great company, great views, great food, and great wine! I'm sure you all slept like babies that night! Thanks for sharing this exciting adventure with us!👌 --Genie
Hey, Genie. It is a beautiful place. It was the end of August and not hot but slightly warm during different periods of the day. It was really pleasant overall. Carlos, fortunately, found us! 😁 We definitely slept well and dreamed of the Douro Valley. 😊 - Josh & Kalie
You can divide people into two groups. People who think vineyards are beautiful (typically enthusiastic wine drinkers)...and those who don't. I'm in the second group. But I thank you for saving a trip one day to see what's up the Douro. To me the landscape looks tragically decimated. I prefer natural forests, deserts, Alpine mountains, the coast. Places where the hand of man has not been so heavy.
I can see your point. The vineyards on the Douro are far from a decimated landscape, IMHO. Is nature and man working side by side to provide wine and fruit where once only weeds and rocks existed. Further up the river, there are plenty unspoiled places to explore. Several natural parks and mountains surround the Douro region. For me, a decimated landscape is the city suburbs and industrial zones.
Don’t know what the future plans are. But for now Portugal is serious about masks. Public buildings and restaurants inside for sure. Some restaurants check for vaccine status
Amazing views! can't wait to get there! Great music choice by the way ;)

Also, I noticed more people wearing masks than in the videos of the past few months. (The US has become so divided with this,...it really makes me sad.) I'm delighted to see people in Portugal happily wearing masks! 👍
What a gem you found in Carlos! An awesome day overall! Great company, great views, great food, and great wine! I'm sure you all slept like babies that night! Thanks for sharing this exciting adventure with us!👌

Hey, Genie. It is a beautiful place. It was the end of August and not hot but slightly warm during different periods of the day. It was really pleasant overall. Carlos, fortunately, found us! 😁 We definitely slept well and dreamed of the Douro Valley. 😊 - Josh & Kalie
Can someone please helping me get the D7 visa application form please

You still need to wear masks? I thought you don’t need anymore.
I believe this new rule only went into effect on Monday 10/13/21. 👍🏻
Don’t know what the future plans are. But for now Portugal is serious about masks. Public buildings and restaurants inside for sure. Some restaurants check for vaccine status
