Hiya, I need help identifying a vintage Raymond Weil 5731 tank watch. I bought a joblot and it was among the batch. It’s in very good condition but not working even with a new battery. It seems that it was looked at before as the print on the movement has faded. I believe I made out the ETA logo but not sure. I haven’t disassembled the watch or the movement as yet.
The first thing to check is that the battery terminals are clean. If the watch still doesn’t work, it’s time to do some diagnostics. A cheap 4 in 1 quartz tester will give you a good indication of whether this watch is repairable, or whether you need to replace the movement.
That Rolex case had more divots than a public golf course, but your skill made them disappear. I keep telling you, you're an artist! Can't wait to see the entire process. Be well, and keep up the good work!
Love your videos... The compassion I can feel in your voice. Wise words, helping to tip our fellow man into being one people. We humans are the thread that weaves the tapestry of our lives... Without all of us it's threadbare. Prejudices are the chains that enslave us. Pointless bias restricts us from helping each other through the weaknesses we all have and enjoying the fruits of our strengths, together. Looking forward to the next.
The Nekkid Watchmaker videos illustrate just the restoration/refinishing of a watch case and bracelets is an art unto itself, requiring specialized skils, experience, and equipment.
Beautiful restoration work. Epic attention to detail, especially knowing when to stop based on the law of diminishing returns. Inspirational. Thanks for sharing.
Last week a bad one for me Joe and hearing your voice again makes me realize there is still a lot of good in this world. Love hearing Mr. Trouble in the background too!
This is the best part of watch restoration for me... Making the old look brand new... I'm starting out in my watch repair journey. It's like cars, I always avoided "Brand New" ones, because as a (prior aircraft) mechanic and IT Hardware admin there's nothing really to do. I like buying my cars (servers/PCs) used and fix them up on my own or maintain them to make them my own, learning the inns and outs of each. I'm craving the same from watches.
You are a catharsis for troubled times. Kulfi for the soul. Lassi for the heart. There isn’t a single thing I don’t adore and admire about your videos.
You are as particular as.......me! I thought I'd never find anyone as particular and detailed oriented as I! If it's worth doing, it's worth doing correctly!!! Good job!!!
Yes bring on the long version coz I do my muscle memory guitar practice to you vids, they have taught me patience in removing a small defect from my playing, and your so funny,so bring it on coz I have watched all your videos and need new ones. Blessings from Perth Western Australia 🥸
Hi i have just discovered your channel and think its great . love the craftmanship and the whitty naration . im not a watch fanatic but watching you and your son on these videos makes me smile. keep up the good work and watch out for the young pretender tacking over
Joe, I'm always amazed, by the gouges you manage to remove. You show off cases that look hopeless. Then you show us what a little love and hope can do. You're a Master . 🫡
Amazing job bringing the Rolex back to it's new look. Most of my watches have scratches on the bracelets and a couple have a scratch across the crystal. I do wear all of my watches, and I kind of like the patina they generate.
You know, Nekkid, it was always surprises me that some owners of lovely time peices seem quite content to trash them. Foruntately, there are people like you to give them their lustre back. Lovely job, as always. Thanks for sharing.
@@garyhost354 Who lets their watch get into this sort of state? I'm no collector and I'm not precious with my things but I would never let any of my watches get into this sort of state.
You really are a master craftsman. I have a 2010 GMT Master II and I love it. It’s in really quite good condition but I haven’t had it serviced yet. Will do so later this year and am looking forward to it coming back factory beautiful.
Your work always seems so precise and well planned out. With kids running about your shop, I find it amazing that you have the patience and love to teach your children about your craft. I must ask with your attention to detail you must have a mild case of .Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) Making sure every little ding or scratch is out of the case as much as possible means you are a true craftsman proud of his art or you are mildly OCD or both. In your case, mild OCD would be a definite plus to your final product. Thank you for you videos and for caring
It is not uncommon for people to post their watch to have it serviced by a watchmaker they trust to do the job. I have no idea if Joe takes in work this way, but if he doesn’t and you’re willing to send your watch, I can highly recommend Kalle Slaap at Chronoglide in the Netherlands. They have a TH-cam channel, from which you can get a great idea of the quality of their work. There are only four watchmakers (that I’m aware of) on TH-cam I’d trust with my watches. Joe, Chronoglide, Stian at Vintage Watch Services and another watchmaker who is retired. For what it’s worth, I’m a watchmaker myself, but do not take in work by mail at present.
Wow Joe, looks like the accountant has upped your allowance! With all those tools, bits and bobs seems like she might actually like having you around eh (I know it takes a bit of time to gather together a shop such as yours). Trouble is a chip off the old crystal he is. Has a knack for the lens. Your training looks like it may be paying off! I look forward to the complete tale. I always perk up when I see one of your thumbnails for a new video release. One of the few channels that makes me smile and give a little silent whoo hoo! When I see a new release. I envy your skill and talent and your life in general, but you know what they say: the grass is not always greener. But whoever said that probably never made it to Scotland or Ireland. Grateful I was able to see it with mine own eyes back in 1978 when I was a wee welp (about 9 going on 10 years old) and have fond memories of the UK, Paris & Copenhagen. Anyways, I am anticipating patiently for the next release. Cheers my friend, and give Trouble my compliments on his cinematography. See you in the next one if the Almighty wills it. 👍🏻
That case looks like a major polishing job. I know what you mean about being swamped in clips to sort, trim & select, editing can be a really difficult job. Looking forward to the results.
The green compund gives an amazing mirror finish... That last little ding on the back cover would be something for your lazing welding friend, wouldn't it?
Not going to lie…if I were to change my career and become a watch repairer, I’d like to study under you.

You keep us coming back for more. I'm always relieved whenever when a new vid is posted, it means the world is still turning.

Shiny, shiny. Spectacular. Your cameraman did excellent work.
What a skilled man this is! Looking forwards to full size video.

Incredible work as always, Joe. Keep going, my friend. You're amazing. And thank you for such an entertaining channel.
Beautiful restoration work. Epic attention to detail, especially knowing when to stop based on the law of diminishing returns. Inspirational. Thanks for sharing.
it looks better than new, and its not even completed, can't wait to watch the entire
Stunning work as usual Joe. You're such a skilled watchmaker as well as an all round top bloke.
Good to see a Rolex that has obviously been enjoyed and used for it's intended purpose.
Absolutely awesome! There’s just something about holding an object you just refinished and polished in your hands!
Your work is always so impressive. Beautiful finishes on all of those angles.
Wow! Trouble's camera work is really good - well done! Thanks for the teaser, Joe.

Happy Sunday bro, this was epic. Can't wait for the feature length version 👍
As much as I like the work that goes into a watch restoration, it is made much more interesting buy your calming voice 😊
Thanks for showing your machines. I am always interested in making and modifying machine tools.
Trouble - best cinematographer on TH-cam!
You are a master craftsman mate. Keep your videos coming 👍
That's looking reeeeeally nice!

Incredible work! Looks great
Geez it looks like that watch has been through some hard times - I'll bet it's glad it's finally getting some love. Awesome work as always.
Nice job. Bringing back the bling!

Reviving a lived in Rolex with love
High quality work 👌
Absolutely beautiful case work.
Looking forward to the full video Joe. I actually think trouble has become quieter compared to three years ago. 😂😂 Take care my friend.

I know! I mean I'm not the most careful but some of these things are just a mess,
It’s not trashed. It’s well worn. Some people buy to collect. Some people buy to wear. Nothing wrong with either…

Sir u r an artist and consummate craftsman!,

Wow, this is sick! Had to enable eye protection mode on my tablet and use my sunglasses. Looking forward to the whole episode. 👍🍻
a laser-welder would be a great addition!

Nice, a sneak peek we love those.

What a difference.
You have the magic touch.✨
That’s going to feel one very lucky owner , absolutely beautiful
Bezel grinding reminded me of the school bell at lunchtime and hometime 😂😂😂
The skills you have are amazing thanks you 😊😊
Thank you 😊
I don't typically like watches being polished, but this one definitely needed it as it was loved well :)
Very interesting vid, you are an excellent craftsman
Superior work!
Case work is so satisfying. 😀😎
Whetting our appetites,... lovely work.

Amazing work!💪
Good to see you back Joe, I was wondering if all the shorts meant the end.
Even without looking at the movement one may deduce this is one well worn Rolex. Best of luck with this one.
Yea! A welcome diversion.
Niiiiiice. Looking forward to the full video my friend 🧡
Up to your usual outstanding standards young man well done regards from Liverpool
I'd love to have the machines you use. Sadly as a hobbyist, there is no way I can justify it.
Great vid as always.👍🏻🇬🇧
You are truly amazing doing these watches and videos
Very solid work sir
An artist at work!
Love this channel!!!
How on earth do even people manage to bang these watches so badly
I would like to see you restore Adrian Barker’s Explorer II. That would be a collab everyone is waiting for.
That watch was well used. I have always said that markings on a time piece is like scars . They all tell a story.
