Several yrs ago I was on a land and sea trip to Alaska. While on the cruise Libby Riddles, first female winner, 1985 Iditarod was on the ship talking about her winning adventure. One of the tours I signed up for was a trip to visit sled dogs and they showed the dogs exercising and running as a team. I loved the whole Alaska experience💕

Love your channel. And love to learn more about Alaska and to see how different things are and watch you experience things like this. Just watching the video was amazing enough. You can tell that you definitely enjoyed the experience and that made it so much more enjoyable to watch. Your channel is so unique... You don't do things just for the likes and comments that it will get you like a lot of other TH-camrs do, you do this because it's something you love and because of the love you have for Alaska. Love all of your videos. I first saw a grocery haul video and then saw your family vlogs as well. Love all you content and can't wait to see what you, your Alaska boys and sweet Luna get up to in 2023. I have a feeling it'll be a great year for you all.

I grew up spending summers in Grand Marais, MN on the north shore of Lake Superior. They have their own sled dog race there called the John Beargrease. It commemorates an Ojibwa mail carrier by that name who used sled dogs to take mail from Duluth to Grand Portage in the winter time. (He used a boat in the summer.)

That was really fun!! Thank you for sharing!! Though many people like to think those dogs are worked too hard this is proof that they are not happy unless pulling and running. Watching them so excited to run and roll in the snow is also proof they are so happy to be doing what they are doing. I have heard they eat better than their mushers! The dogs are #1 and mushers can live on much less. Watched many shows on sled dogs as Husky's are my favorite and I would love to own one someday but only if I could provide the lifestyle they need. Got the snow part down but that is about all. Not the land to run!

There is a story about a illness that happened. It was spreading and ended up in Alaska. There was a medicine that was invented to save. It took a team tag of dog sleds to get the medicine; to where it needed to be. I absolutely can't remember the illness but, I do remember that if it had not been for the dogsleds, That village would have completely been wiped out.

    Good Morning Hamm Family ❤️
    *Prayer Request at end 😢
I pray you are doing well, enjoying your much deserved rest/vacation and making memories. Have a Blessed and Happy New Year 💖
Thank you for sharing yours and Weston's lil adventure. Mom and son time is awesome, especially when there's fun involved. I'm so happy you and Weston had a, rather chilly, yet exciting time. I would love to be in Weston's cold, toe-numbing boots. Mark (mine) can do your part... LoL. Maggie was totally mesmerized during the entirety of the video. She was (happy) whining and prancing about wanting to join in the fun. Her Great Pyrenees roots want some fun in the snow... she'd probably just try to herd all the Huskies into proper position 😁
The history about the gold rush and Iditarod has always interested me. So much fun to be able to partake in an old, amazing tradition. Peter reminded me of an old mountain man. The dogs are beautiful... fiesty pups. My Uncle Mike* raised Huskies when he was younger. So poignant to watch your video on this day of all days. I know at least one musher from Alaska flew down to Georgia and bought 4 of his dogs. Teenage me was there, and it was so interesting to hear his stories about his adventures 🛷🐺
Luna has a doggie soulmate 🐱🐺
Yah's Blessings to you and your Family on the Morning Eve of the New Year. May Yeshua be a Beacon of Light to guide your way into 2023 and always ❤️
    ----
*If I could, I'd like to ask you and your Family to pray for my Mom, my Aunt Charlotte, my Uncle Rodney and the rest of our Family. Their baby brother, my Uncle Mike, passed away in his sleep this morning. Our hearts are broken. So much loss these past 3+ years... the loss of Family, Friends and FurBabies. Thank you. And to all those going through their own loss, our thoughts and prayers are with you ❤️

It's one of those "expecting but not sure when" moments, so there was no shock. It's been a rough year. We've lost so many in the span of 15 months... some young, some old... all loved and cherished. We just have to trust in Yah's plan and count our blessings. It's heartwarming to know even "strangers" can spread light upon another's darkness. Good night ❤️

I learned about the ididarod races from the animated movie Balto. Which to this day I still love that movie. Is it true there's a museum somewhere in AK to honor the real dog Balto? I know there's an awesome statue in NYC that I've personally seen myself and it's very cool

the iditarod has nothing to do with that. its bs. the iditarod is just a cruel dog race. its harder to be a sled dog now than ever.

@@doggodoggo3000 you do realize huskies enjoy that type of activity and that’s what they’re bred for yeah? To be able to withstand cold temps and pull sleds for medicine and supplies back when there were really only trains around for transportation

@@vermontvoice13 yea and they werent running as fast, as far, and they werent kept in such large numbers.
I worked in dog sled racing. The only musher I met at a race who did well and didnt chain his dogs was from vermont (your name sayss vermont) jim blair at eden ethical sled dogs. he is very much the exception and not the rule. cool guy. All these abusive competitive race mushers were so angry when he won. I was SHOCKED myself. but yea his dogs smoked. He said he was only there because the race was near his house and a pretty trail. he doest do a ton of racing. I was there from half way across the country chasing races handling for a team. I ran in that race though. I think jim won because they his dogs were more used to the weather and terrain. Most mushers live in low elevation flat places, this trail was hilly in the mountains. plus tourism dogs sometimes smoke from pulling around people on sled dog rides all season, you let the lead out and they smoke.

How much weight or "towing capacity" does a sled dog pull on average?
