Highly underrated when it was released, it has only been in recent years been given the credit it deserved and is arguably one of the greatest songs Slade ever produced. Noddy's vocal delivery is stunning with a deeply moving soulful melancholy interspersed with the great rasping power he was so famous for. It was such a different and unique song from anything the band had done before. It is a timeless masterpiece and certainly one of the best songs of the seventies.
Привіт з України! Вперше почув цю пісню в далекому 1975 році, на дні народження близького друга, вона була хітом того вечора! До сих пір це один з шедеврів виконаних неповторимим Нодді
Loved Slade in the 1970s then many years later discovered that one of my best friends grew up in Wolverhampton and went out with Noddy ... she always said he was lovely and when she died, far too young a few months ago, her family played a Slade track at the celebration...makes me think of her every time I listen to it. What an underrated group...these are all classics
I have lived in Wolverhampton all my life and was a big Slade fan in my teens. I went to most of their gigs and i have to say that this song is one of my favourites, it was taken from the film that they made called Flame. I went to see the film a few times when it was at the cinema. Not the greatest film in the world but when i was a teen and crazy about Slade it was brilliant. So sorry to hear of your loss.
Slade are far from underrated. They are unarguably the greatest group that came out of the Glam Rock era next to T-Rex, and several of their hits entered the charts at No.1, the first band to do so since The Beatles. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend who went out with Noddy, but I'm glad you played a Slade song at her wake. Long live Noddy & Co.
Hey, they were right. "Many years from now there will be new sensations, and new temptations...new elations and new frustrations...newer poisons and new horizons...new tomorrow and still some sorrows." All came true.
Like something Harrison or McCartney would have written at the peak of their powers. Very Beatlesque. Couldn’t believe it was Slade when I first heard it.
To me this performance rather highlights his limitations as a singer. What would have been much more interesting was him replacing Bon Scott in AC/DC. That may well have happened if it wasn't for Slade's glam image. I'm saying that not because I think he would have been better than Brian Johnston. I'm just saying he was better suited to that sort of music than he was to ballads.
I wish more young people were listening. If only the current crop of aspiring artists understood where music comes from. Not from computers, that's for sure. It was never meant to be that way. Find your inspiration from the feeling you get from playing a genuine instrument. Get good at it and find other people who have done the same. Create something magical. Like Slade did. Real music needs to circle back around. ☮️
I saw the film and it reminded me of starting a rock band when i was young. We were called Montreux and we had big dreams as young people usually do. 41 years ago... Hello Anthony, Rikki and Gary.
Noel Gallagher sent me here. Not quite true: occasionally, we used to hear Slade rehearsing at the Cannock Forum walking home from school. Those were the days.
It's got it all, fantastic vocals, top class musicianship, sublime songwriting. Up there with all the greatest songs ever produced by UK's finest bands. All time classic.
Loved Slade when they first hit the charts. Always came back to this song. The bass - particularly, those top - end notes, and that amazing outro, get me every time.
Sublime, for me this is their greatest track. Still get the chills when i remember hearing about Dons' car accident that tragically killed his GF back in 1973. Wonderful group that produced stunning work
I was a big Slade fan back in the '70s but never got to see the Flame film until a couple of years ago. It was a bit dated, as you would expect, but i still thought it very good. My biggest take aways from it were this song and Don Powell's brilliant comic timing.
@@johngould3603 hi john, thanks for that, just watched, yes an acoustic album would have been great, was a massive slade fan still am,no better voice ,theres been some good voice but not to touch noddys
At the time I was not a great Slade fan ( am 68,) as was into prog rock and quite pretentious. However I absolutely loved this and still do. Wonderful vocal from Noddy.
I've loved Slade from a very young age, seen them a few times. Anyone remember Monsters of Rock?? (what a performance that was) and they have written and released some superb tracks, but for me this stands out above all others, simply superb, absolutely brilliant!!
What a super song Jimmy & Nod ... still sounds beautiful today .. I recorded and mixed this and proud of it 53 years later .. check out ' Music Magic& Madness'... the story is in my book !
Thank you Stephen and we must be a similar age as I also remember going to see the film when it came out and the huge excitement amongst me and my friends...such a huge part of our childhoods, this music takes me back to happy times....how proud you must have been to have thar link to the band! 😊
best live band of the 70,s early 80,s top,top group, so many great songs" how does it feel is almost 50 years old" and still sounds so fresh" universe is very close to this , maybe they saved their best till last?

I'll add, that this is simply, one of the best songs ever written....👍
Totally agree. I saw Slade In Flame on cinema release. This is one of the greatest singles ever released.

“Flame”, the picture was funny but its music great !!
I'm here thanks to that "BEHS" guy.
This song rocks. Can't believe I'd never heard it before. I love music from this era.
😆 me too , but I bought it when it came out originally .. Danny Sapko just went up in my estimation with this 👌
👍🏴
Same here:) I vaguely remembered it from way back. 🎸
Yep

Pop perfection, should have been massive hit
Loved Slade, this was probably their finest hour.
Was DEFINITELY their finest hour
Shoutout to Jimmy Lea, bassist, who wrote such great numbers like this. He gave the band such otherwise improbable depth.
James Wilder Lea
Neville John Holder, the best RnR vocal ever !!
One of the finest songs from the 1970`s. Top drawer.

That's what I was thinking--quite a compliment.
Great track from a fantastic band ...one of my very favourites.....Slade for ever!!!! Melanie 33 ❤️🌈
Superb song, sung by a much underrated vocalist.
Love Slade.. brilliant band ❤
Dunno about underrated. Noddy was John Lennon's favourite singer! And mine.
@@percy888ferrydoes my head in when folk say “ underrated “ maybe by that person ..but not the rest of us ✊

Let's not forget the impression Slade made on future bands. No Slade means no Oasis....
Our own.The black countries finest hour.Noddy a Walsall boy
Slade, a great band. Talented, sensitive, intelligent and unique.
But they couldn't spell.
Th e moment Slade formed I was buying their singles and albums - this one is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏

Slade goes power ballad. Simply wonderful. Beatlesque
Yes ! It IS Beatlesque . good analysis.

Their best album IMHO. :-)
The evolution of this band was truly incredible!

Next level from Slade.
Very beatlesesque
Yes, it sounds like it could have come out of 1967. Sounds a bit like "Penny Lane" and "Happy Together" with some good grungy bass and brass mixed in.
Love a bit of Slade on a sunny afternoon.
great song by a fantastic band
I ĺoved slades music when i was a teenager in the early 70's far far away is a good track 😊😊😊😊

Love this track, my favourite💝
Will we ever see the likes of this great 70's band again, maybe, But they wont be as good, that's for sure.
Magnificent as ever from the 'greatest, Slade'. What a vocal from the one and only Noddy Holder.
Just listen to noddys vocals,he could & probably still sing anything,no better voice
Listen to Noddy singing Cum on feel the noize acoustic at the end of the Grimleys. sounds fantastic, just wish he'd done an acoustic album.

Such an incredible album. To me it is their most mature and "uniquely them" sound.
So many excellent songs.
One of Slade's finest. A brilliant song.
