I stumbled upon these last week at Home Depot. I hadn't realized that they had come out in the non-Decora style. Of course I picked up a box, even though they were a bit pricey. As a landlord I replace a lot of outlets, and had been waiting for these for a long time.
Love it. Thanks in part to your videos I was able to do a few electrical jobs and I am using wago connectors in boxes. I would want a commercial grade outlet with USB power and levers. Not sure if that exists.
Not yet but it looks like Leviton is pushing the lever features across at least a portion of their lineup. I would expect some USB options coming soon at least in white.
I thought I would like the Decora lever connector outlets but after installing them, I hate them. The tamper resistant front is very difficult to install a plug!
I like them - especially since they shouldn't be susceptible to popping open like a wago can be if you're not careful once things start wiggling around
That is an easy swap. You have a number of different types of dimmer switches you could install just check to see if there is only 1 switch on that circuit (single pole) or 2 switches on that circuit (3-way). This video will help you out th-cam.com/video/FM8_yHlyqR4/w-d-xo.html
I tried one of Leviton lever edge outlets and switches they are good. I like the one with the terminals screws because they are better and more secure. What do you find better for outlet and switches
Why do they only provide single connection for ground? In order to add 2nd receptacle in 2 gang box I use a wago to connect the grounds unlike the hot and neutral which have two connectors each already.
The second connection is not primarily meant for daisy chaining. It can and frequently is used that way. But the main reason for it is so you can break off the tab between the receptacles so you can have the top and bottom on different circuits, like if you want to have one controlled by a switch. Either way it's generally considered best practice to pigtail all your outlets, that way if one has a problem it doesn't affect all the ones further down.
Im sorry if i missed it, but is it pomssible to back stabthese wires without lifting the lever? (Or do the instructions from the manufacturer say anything about that?) I was thinkimg it light be possible for install and you'd only need to use the lever for removal.
You can, kind of like you can with Wagos. But it's difficult and it doesn't save much time over flipping the lever, insert the wire, then flip it back. The back stab saves time over making a hook, and screwing the wire on. I also think it's easier to tell when you have it fully inserted if you flip the lever because you can feel when it bottoms out.
Oddly enough, Leviton Lever Edge doesn't seem to be available in Canada for some reason... I though after watching this video, that would be the one I would use for my whole-house outlet swap honey-do project... guess not.
I absolutely suck at anything electrical. Tried to install a new Honeywell smart thermostat over the weekend. I ended up breaking it, reinstalling the god awful Nest thermostat. Exchanged the one i broke for a new one and calling a pro to install it.
Sorry that didn’t go well for you. 😢 I put in a Honeywell WiFi Thermostat a few years ago, and love it. I was going to install a Wyze but decided a thermostat should come from a thermostat company. It’s my favorite smart home device. I did have to rearrange the wires at the control board to give it a C-wire for power, but only had 4 wires and couldn’t run a 5-wire cable. The Honeywell had instructions to do that. I hope you’ll watch more electrical DIY videos from this guy, Sparky Channel, and others, so you can learn safe and best practices and gain more confidence. They helped me greatly 4 years ago when I decided to try installing smart switches and USB outlets in my home. I’m also now going back and correcting a lot of the badly-installed outlets and switches in my 1960-built home.
I hate how the wago levers open. It's such a fantastic product, except for that 1 flaw. Nobody wants to use a time saving product that you have to waste time on (wrapping it with tape).
Yeah, I think that is the #1 complaint. It doesn't bother me much but it would be an awesome upgrade if they could figure out how to keep the levers closed with wires installed.
As nice as the lever outlets are, it's a once in maybe 20 year install for me in my home. I will not pay the extra money to save like max 1-2 minutes per outlet.
If you only replace one every several years I would argue spend the extra couple bucks to get a better grade product that will last even longer. The price difference between these and a bare bones residential is about $1.50 and not really any difference between them and commercial grade. The big advantage is when you do have to replace them you won't have to possibly cut your wire back if they're damaged from the hook around the screw.
I don't think you answered this in your video. Do you prefer the Edge series over the commercial grade products? If you have a choice, which one are you choosing?
Oh man that is a tough one. I am leaning towards the 15-Amp Lever Edge. With that said Legrand 15-Amp Commercial grade from Menards have been my go to for about 3 years now and for the cost and size of the overall packaging that is still a great choice for a duplex. The issue for me is I no longer live by a Menards 🤦♂️. If I need a Decora I am still sticking with a Commercial grade Decora from Eaton as opposed to the Decora Edge.
Funny how diy can do their own electrical, no license needed. But for an electrician to come in and do anything in your house, they need to be licensed.
it makes sense if you think about it from any other perspective except the new age "rugged individual". not to mention your drunk uncle handyman is indeed doing electrical without a license
There is not much difference between the stab in receptacle and the lever type. They are both clamping down on the wiring and both can be pulled out if enough force is applied
@@EverydayHomeRepairs the price at Home Depot is .87 for traditional vs $3.68 for lever style outlets. Switches are comparable. That’s 4X the cost. Are you getting sponsored?
@@garystevens7008 Nope, no sponsorship. I would compare the the commercial grade (not residential grade) to the new lever edge. They are more expensive but not too bad.
How would you like someone to show products if you think things are paid advertisements and reputable youtubers are just hiding them from us? As he said, not a fan of the regular edge. You think Leviton want's him telling people to not buy some of their products.....

Thanks for the feedback!
The "wago-ing" forward lol
WAGOs are taking over. WAGO should have teamed up and integrated into the design with a little WAGO branded lever.
Slowly changing all my wall outlets as needed. Recently purchased this house and the outlets are from the 70s.
Was just looking for 20A version of Decora at Home Depot couple days ago! Thank goodness these are available now.
🙌
I wish the decora edge had more features of a commercial outlet. Nice video!
Yeah, I wonder if they will redesign the Decora Edge to the "Plus+" level brining in the commercial-grade materials.
Nice job. Always learning from you. Also love you include products you use and tools. Love Klein. Thank you.
Happy to help. Thanks for the support 👍
Very cool. Definitely more surface area of contact and grip.
Thanks for the informative video which I saved. Your deconstruct hand speed was amazing😁
A lot of coffee 😬
How about try a current draw and temperature test on the plugs
It’s the middle of January, it’s near zero degrees F. But those buzzing sounds at 4:51 had me swatting imaginary insects. 😅
😂

Thanks for the feedback.
I hope they come out with slim versions for older homes with smaller boxes
I like them - especially since they shouldn't be susceptible to popping open like a wago can be if you're not careful once things start wiggling around
I know this may be a long shot, but it would be cool to see if you can get a Leviton Engineer / Rep to talk about the decision to switch to this style
Another helpful vid. Surprised how reasonably priced they are. FYI, your 20A link isn't correct.
Thanks for the heads up.
Good report. Thanks for sharing
You bet!
How do you change out a dimmer switch? Mine stopped working........ Thanks!

I think it's code. Removing a device can't interrupt the ground for the branch. They want you to pigtail grounds.

Hey, are you able to break the tab in the middle to make it a half hot? Other than that, thank you for the video. These do seem faster and safer!
Yes, i should have added that in as the tabs are there hidden under a little tab of white plastic.
3:20 I've always wanted a tight package 😂
Hello Scott, love all your videos. Is there any issue with 20 AMP circuit breaker and 15 AMP outlets inside my house I just bought recently ?
Nope, you are allowed to have 15 Amp outlets on a 20 Amp breaker as long as there is at least 1 duplex outlet 👍. Should be good.

They are really new, I would suspect HD is still rolling them out to all the stores. Might also want to see if you can order them and just pickup.
I’m not spending the money for fancy receptacles when the regular ones work just fine.

There are tons of videos and posts on how to do it properly. DIYers should not use what you claim is better but is not!
Stupidly expensive outlets

Yeah because they aren’t the ones living there. Who cares if a house burns down, as long as you don’t live there right?

At least my 2 cents I think the spring retention difference between speed wiring and the lever edge is significant in design.

I wondered too. I used wago last year and didn’t care for it.
Yeah. I get the impression these "opinions" have been bought and paid for.

Too expensive. Stick with regular wago lever nuts.
thumbs down. none of them are smart
