True that! Ace is legendary and just hearing his name puts a big, goofy grin on my face! Glad to see him clean and sober and enjoying his later years as a rock and roll icon! @ArcadeKaos
LOVE Ace! KISS will always be one of the greatest rock bands in the pantheon of music history! I've always loved Ace's gritty, Bronx vocals, but lately, it sounds like Christopher Walken is on vocals here! 'Walken on the moon...'!
Definitely agree Ace @ 72 can't really sing anymore but then again he never was a great singer - u can cut him some slack on the guitar playing lol- it sounds great production wise though 👍 He should call Todd Howarth back in to sing !
Well I think it’s no shame that when you older- focus on the guitar and recruit someone else to sing. Two players that come to mind- Eric Clapton and Robin Trower. I saw a recent clip of Clapton- both him and the background singers were auto- tuned before the live clips were released on you tube. Many artists have been doing this- I’d rather watch the performance as it was sung live - even if it’s a bit off at times.
In my opinion, this is the best Ace record in a long long time, you can love it or you can hate it, but is Ace and Ace never was a good singer but he has the touch and when I first listen I felt that feeling I didn’t felt in a long time
Thank you to Ace for releasing new albums. I wish the other band he was in would have done the same. Pete, please go back and revisit Anomaly. Holy cow, great guitar/solos!
One of the outside writers is a former member of Trixter. Back into my Arms Again is a demo he shelved around 30 yrs ago that many fans have been wanting him to finish for a long long time.
Solid video Pete. It’s interesting that he had others doing lead vocals on some of the tracks off his covers albums. Also playing live he has band members sing some of the tunes. Maybe should’ve done so here. My question when listening to the album was how much of this record was really Ace vs the people he was working with. Oh well, he’s still around living his life and seems to be enjoying it so kudos to that.
Bingo! That sums it up perfectly. Most fans will buy and make excuses for it. I have everything he's ever put out for CDs, and I never listen to anything past Anamoly, and that record is a rare spin. No more, I'm done. Tired of wasting money.
Being the completist, I'll definitely get it. I heard it on Spotify and do wonder if Steve Brown actually does the majority of the playing? Rhythm wise at least.
Yes Pete I agree with your review. One more thing I know your not a Motley Crue fan, but have you heard the new Mick Mars solo album and if so possibly a album review?
Love ace, if I am hearing an ace solo album I want to hear his vocals. I feel like there is two rating systems for me a good ace album verses how I would rate it if it was not ace. So yes I will pick this up. Does feel to me like ozzy solo record, and outside guy does all the work and ace comes in add some bits and pieces and puts his name in it.
Pete , Back in 1987 Ace Frehley Played at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania The Audience members seeing the show kept knocking down the barricade between the stage and Audience the people in the audience kept doing this for about 5 times or more so Ace Frehley got Mad and left the Building never to return so Cinderella came up next to play and the band members in Cinderella gave us a speech about knocking down the barricade like reprimanding us to behave. Then Cinderella Played their gig. Unbelievable Pete that a band would do this to their fans . What do you think of this Pete ? Let me know Thanks Rick Robb.
I mostly agree with you on this. I actually really like the new album. I think Ace’s vocals still work though. He was never real melodic. To me he just sounds older.
id say its the best produced Ace solo album that Ive ever heard. I agree with you that he should hire a full time singer. A solid album. Side note. Id love it if Ace ever put out an all instramental album.
Wow Pete! Harsh words for Ace’s new album. His vocals have always been about “character “ take a step back and understand he is a performer/ lead guitarist. Please remember his vocals couldn’t have been that bad to have a best selling 1978 solo album, and Frehley’s Comet debut as well as”Trouble Walk-in”. It to me sounds that you have grown up out of KISS completely and that’s co. PS Dennis DeYoung said he likes your long hair better, and wants you to grow it back out! Please you had your own look! Now you look like Popoff! I can’t get used to it after 3 years now. Still dig your channel and you are awesome!
Wow !! Thank you, Pete, for your Review and opinion. Cool, hot, fun, rockin’, Space Ace, 10,000 Volts. Love it !! I bought the color splattered record and CD, too!! I Cranked it up !! 🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁 Life is better with music.
I must say there is not one track I have heard that speaks, buy this record. Always pulling for Ace but I must agree with Pete about the vocals especially. A vocalist has been in demand for some time.
Man, pete. I totally agree. I love Ace and i wanted to love it. And, i do like it. Some things are really fun. But, ive been listening to it alot, and the more i listen, the less i like it. Lol. I still love Ace but after i listened to it , i listened to the new Judas priest stuff and its no contest. Priest kills it and Ace*s album is ok
Yesterday I listened to the demos I have of Frehley's from his early post-Kiss days (Catch Me When I Fall, Back Into My Arms demo version, I Will Survive, The Hurt Is On, Words Are Not Enough demo version), and then went right through the new album. The 10,000 Volts album sounds/feels perfectly continuous with those songs, just with modern production. Even Ace's vocals, which are typically a weak link on his songs even if I like his quirky voice for nostalgic reasons, are surprisingly consistent with those old demos. The singing actually sounds pretty punchy on this new album, even if the guy has never been a singer. I don't want a different vocalist, like in Frehley's Comet. Heck if it isn't 2024 and I may have just bought my favorite Ace Frehley album. I'm a big fan of the original solo record, but it is kind of a stoner fest. What an unexpected, fun surprise.
That's a fair review, Pete. I've loved some of Ace's work down the years, and I won't hit on him, simply out of loyalty. He's a unique guitar talent. But your review is accurate...
Yeah, I agree with everything said here. The songs are pretty forgettable to me. I'll probably stick with the first couple of Frehley's Comet albums. Oh, well. I also picked up the new album by Iron Curtain today and that's really good, at least. If you like Motorhead-style rock, check them out.
is incredible you did such a good rating and review, for that album... I will love Ace and KISS Forever but I don`t love everything they do. Back Into my arms is my favorite track maybe because was written in the 80s or 90s.
You're spot on with the lazy "talky" Ace vocals. Something as irking me and I couldn't put my finger on it. That's it. His vocal pitch has always warbled too. I just think that's his quirky interior clock tho. He's a strange neurological-biological mix. lol. Thanks for the review. Shout out up The Hudson from down Brooklyn.
I agree Fightin' for Life is a phenomenal song. Worth price of admission alone for me. There are several excellent tunes on it, should have left Constantly Cute off the album. I don't have as much of a problem with Ace's vocals as Pete does. Sounds like he's got some Ozzy syndrome with the voice going on, a little slurred at points. But he sounds great on Fightin' for Life, for example. Production is great, which I assume Steve Brown's involvement is a big part of the reason.
I like the album, ace sings in the same style he always has, if he hires other singers it wouldn’t sound like an ace album. Sounds like Pete never liked his singing but for those of us that like him and his vocal style then this is a pretty cool album to add to your ace collection. Not saying it’s his best but it’s definitely ace
If you listened to what I said in the video, I was always fine with Aces vocals, up to a point. He just doesn’t cut it any more. He was never a great singer, but he had a unique style. Now, it completely is a turn off to my ears.
I love Ace: he was the reason I first picked up a guitar, so many years ago now that I don't even remember exactly how long it's actually been. But I could *never* stand his singing. It's always been like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
Not to mention Ace is auto tuned slightly on vocals. Guitar solos are like B Sides to other Kiss Songs. Decent album but times they are a changing. Don't know if Ace can keep up much longer
I totally agree with Pete's take on the album. Ace's vocals leave me cold. Some of the tunes are rockin', but not enough to get me excited about this album. I was actually looking forward to this release, but it's a bit of a disappointment for me.
Volts is the only song of note here. Constantly Cute = Embarassing lol Played it twice today once at work and once with my cousin working out wont be back for more lol love Ace but this is not good
Yea I tried to listen to this album like 7 or 8 songs in I can’t get through it. The only song I like is Fightin’ for Life, definitely the best song on this album, great riff and solo vocals are good on this song. The rest every time the music is good but man his vocals is not good, I wish they bring in another singer
Back into my arms has circulated as a demo for years. I got it on a bootleg cd I had to order from Argentina twenty years ago! It’s one of my favorites. But yeah in general his last few albums have been forgettable
So i just played most of the album the Title track is the best he sounded everything else is terrible, god He needs a real singer i would give this a 2.375
I thought bringing Steve Brown in was a good move but he needs a Todd Howarth type to take some of the load. Ace just seems like he’s going through the motions.
I think its reasonable. Aces voice is average and some of the songs are inconsistent. But its better than most of the rubbish Kiss released post Revenge.
I loved KISS in the 70s when I was a teen. That said, I have a really hard time with the low IQ lyrics and for my taste, he doesn't qualify as a singer. Though his voice does match his lyrical content well 😂. I do like guitar sound. You nailed it on the recycled guitar licks. Like Ted Nugent's last album, I do enjoy listening to the texture of his guitar. It's like eating Ice Cream that makes you dumber
havnt watched review yet , as i am listening to other new releases still, i gave ace 3,0+ stars , i feel i liked it a little more than others, i did rate the mick mars album a little higher 3.5- stars 🐯
Ace can put out several horrible albums yet people jump up to hear a new record from him because he is so damn likeable. One of those rockers who is approachable and who can forget that cackle?
To begin with , Ace has never intented to be a full-time singer. We are keen on his effort, though. At least 10 of the tracks are very enjoyable. Secondly, regarding the length of each song, cherry medicine and stratosphere must have lasted longer. Lastly, songs marred with some lackluster guitar solos? Mmmm...🤥 What songs are you refering to?
I’m a fan of over 40 years, but this record is putrid. It’s the 2024 equivalent of the Peter Criss “All For One” album. But at least Peter could sing. I’ve supported him and bought everything to support him, even if I haven’t loved any of them, but I can’t buy this dribble. This seems like a Steve Brown solo album featuring Ace Frehley. This will be a trainwreck live.
There is absolutely no way that this album is as bad as “One For All”. The hell are you smoking? It’s not fantastic, but it’s not bad either. Some good tracks I’ll continue to go back to.
I agree with the vocals. Hes never been a great vocalist but his vocals on cherry medicine are cringy the chorus is catchy. But i agree hemay do better for a full time singer ( tod howarth)
I like ace and his music, but he should have used real aliens in his walking on the moon video, where do you get them you ask new York but don't get caught cause they're illegal!
Few decent songs 10,000 Volts Cosmic Heart Fightin’ For Life Up In The Sky Cherry Medicine Constantly Cute Awful and ridiculous 🤮🤮 Drum sound is flat and bland and unimaginative
I would like to see Ace do an album of all new material with different vocalists. Ace shines in the background, let him do what he does best and let others sing. Long live the spACEman.
pete you are simply too polite, i dont think i have ever watched you completely slam an album and give it like a 1/5. This album is a 1/5 in my book. i was in disbelief when i listened to this because of how shit it was. Love kiss and frehleys comet, but the last 4 solo albums from ace have been beyond terrible imo
I just listened to Cherry medicine. It’s a legitimately awful song. All of the singles so far suffer from trite lyrics, lazy singing and mediocre writing.
Horrible album. Glad I checked it out on Spotify first. Back in my arms again, could imagine an 1986 ace Vocal and it would be decent. The way he approaches it today is horrendous. 😂 0/10 album.
Unfortunately, Pete is right. Singing=ugh. Lyrics=ugh. The song 10,000 Volts is ok. Cherry Medicine shoulda been sung by Joan Jett. Fightin’ For Life is a gem. The only reason to listen to this album. I listened 6x and gave up.
Cookie cutter time singers don’t work for me which is why I didn’t like frehleys comet. The uniqueness and style of aces vocals draws me to the songs. I’d disagree with ya on that Pete….the cover albums for the most part are very solid , other than the Lita ford songs and some others that Ace doesn’t sing. I’d give 10k volts 3.5/5.
The only thing I hated about the album was the lyrics, and the vocal deliveries. And the corny pop riffs. And the sleepy guitar solos. And all the songs. But mostly the embarrassingly abysmal lyrics and singing.
@@JIF882 Because 90% says it`s a great album and that`s the truth. The 10% just has to listen some more on it and it will grow o them. So let`s come back in August and ask him what he thinks of it then.
This review is WAY too generous. If Ace sees it, he might feel encouraged to make yet another sloppy outdated sounding album, that only confirm Paul and Gene's opinions about this guy over the years. There's a video of him going to Walmart to buy a copy of his own cd. He's miffed that they only have 5 copies (which he buys himself). Then says to his wife, or girlfriend, or caregiver who is with him, that Walmart should get more copies because "the kids" are going to be bummed when they show up and find 10,000 Volts nowhere to be found. I think he still thinks it's the '80's.
@@evileyes4070 hey, if you think Ace has a great voice and you like it, that's cool. I don't. His voice was acceptable and fun 40+ years ago...it's not anymore. Stick to what you do best Ace, and that's play guitar. I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Really for 50 years?? The masses say you’re in the minority with that statement. They heard that Since 74 still lasted 50 years. 😛. Btw other than a few songs this Ace album is weak
First Ace solo album I’ve purchased since 78 kiss solo. I really enjoyed the whole album. 2-3 songs could be cut. I like the bronxy sounding vocals and roughness of it. Music and production rocks and many catchy songs. Don’t overthink the lyrics..: come on Kiss were never poets by any means. This is better than anything Kiss has released in 30 years at least imo. 10,000 volts possible top ten song of the year.
The sad part is that Ace went many, many years without any music being released. Kind of like Van Halen and other classic bands. Life is just too short.
Check out the album here: acefrehley.bandcamp.com/album/10000-volts

Well said about Ace's singing, I don't care for his vocals on 10,000 Volts either. In fact, nothing about this album really grabbed me.
Definitely agree Ace @ 72 can't really sing anymore but then again he never was a great singer - u can cut him some slack on the guitar playing lol- it sounds great production wise though 👍

10,000 Volts
Cosmic Heart
Fightin’ For Life
Up In The Sky
Cherry Medicine
Constantly Cute
Awful and ridiculous 🤮🤮
Drum sound is flat and bland and unimaginative
Agree your review the vocals make this unlistenable to me
I would like to see Ace do an album of all new material with different vocalists.
I am disappointed. The drum mix is to high for me. And not impressive. And who ever is writing the lyrics with ace is pretty lame..
I just listened to Cherry medicine. It’s a legitimately awful song. All of the singles so far suffer from trite lyrics, lazy singing and mediocre writing.
Very Jethro Bodine..Lyrics
Horrible album. Glad I checked it out on Spotify first. Back in my arms again, could imagine an 1986
ace
Vocal and it would be decent. The way he approaches it today is horrendous. 😂 0/10 album.
Very bland and lazy sounding album. Ace’s voice is terrible too!!
100% baloney! Ace singing is the reason this is soooo good.Somebody else singing would suck.
No offense Ace……..one listen and I’m done. Pete, looking forward to your mick mars review….right?????? Can’t wait to compare notes.
Ace wont hire a singer hes got tax troubles he needs every nickel for himself
Unfortunately, Pete is right. Singing=ugh. Lyrics=ugh. The song 10,000 Volts is ok. Cherry Medicine shoulda been sung by Joan Jett. Fightin’ For Life is a gem. The only reason to listen to this album. I listened 6x and gave up.
Ace can't sing shocker! 😊
One of thee worst things I've ever heard, like an exhausted robot
My guess is you will not agree with yourself 6 months from now.
Why do you say that?
@@JIF882 Because 90% says it`s a great album and that`s the truth. The 10% just has to listen some more on it and it will grow o them. So let`s come back in August and ask him what he thinks of it then.
@@haraldsletterod....IMHO .The album was weak yesterday. It's weak today & it will be weak tomorrow...FOR ME
@@poppiethestable1090 I guess you just have a horrible taste. If you are an Ace fan and thinks this album is weak, something is really wrong :D lol
@@haraldsletterod I'm a music fan...I don't worship people..Musically it's weak..Lack Creativity & most of all Soul
Why did you not pre order I got my copy day of release. It's great. Do your homework
Because I no longer need to own Ace Frehley solo albums. And no, it’s not great, but if you think so, that’s cool.
@@seaoftranquilityprog maybe ace don't like you
Ron, you’re making yourself look like a dumb dumb.
these guys are way too old to be making more music and performing live. they need to hang it up and fans should let them go instead of enabling them.
I will be honest with you, not a winner for me, it is 2 out of 5 ! Weak album !
Some of the cheesiest tunes I’ve heard in a long time, pretty awful
I like a lot of the guitars on this, but his vocals, for the most part, suck and the lyrics are cringeworthy and juvenile.
this album is crap
Talk about taking a dump on Ace Frehleys head. If you don't like Frehleys voice don't listen
Love him as a guitar player…he shouldn’t be singing.
@@sotdude7 everyone allowed to sing. Ace got unique voice sound. Like Dylan
@@evileyes4070 hey, if you think Ace has a great voice and you like it, that's cool. I don't. His voice was acceptable and fun 40+ years ago...it's not anymore. Stick to what you do best Ace, and that's play guitar. I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Pete's job is to review albums. Not everyone has to like everything. Read the other comments. Some people agree with Pete.
@@evileyes4070 Is this mama frehley.???
Awful record, and Kiss; so overrated band.
Kiss is music for children.
Really for 50 years?? The masses say you’re in the minority with that statement. They heard that Since 74 still lasted 50 years. 😛. Btw other than a few songs this Ace album is weak
@@Starman2112ofKingsit's better than sonic boom and monster.
When your 72 let's hear what you sound like vocally.
I'm not and have never been a singer...love Ace, but he was never a good singer to begin with...
@@peterpardo7563 Agreed he sings out of necessity.
